January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Protein and Plant Gene Research, School of Life Sciences, PKU-THU Center for Life Sciences, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China; Peking University Chengdu Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Biotechnologies, Chengdu, Sichuan 610213, China. Electronic address:

DNA replication ensures the precise transmission of genetic information from parent to daughter cells. In eukaryotes, this process involves the replication of every base pair within a highly complex chromatin environment, encompassing multiple levels of chromatin structure and various chromatin metabolic processes. Recent evidence has demonstrated that DNA replication is strictly regulated in both temporal and spatial dimensions by factors such as 3D genome structure and transcription, which is crucial for maintaining genomic stability in each cell cycle.

Rationale And Objectives: Extrathyroidal extension (ETE) and BRAF mutation in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) increase mortality and recurrence risk. Preoperative identification presents considerable challenges. Although radiomics has emerged as a potential tool for identifying ETE and BRAF mutation, systematic evidence supporting its effectiveness remains insufficient.

As a core genetic biomolecule in ecosystems, the metabolic processes of DNA, particularly DNA replication and damage repair, are regulated by Flap endonuclease 1 (FEN1). Abnormal expression and dysfunction of FEN1 may lead to genomic instability, which can induce a variety of chromosome-associated disorders, including tumours. FEN1 has emerged as a prominent tumour marker.

Polylactic acid (PLA) microplastics (MPs) and lead (Pb) co-contamination, an emerging co-contamination, may profoundly impact plant growth. We aimed to evaluate the effects of PLA-MPs and Pb on buckwheat growth and physiology and to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms through an integrated transcriptomic and metabolomic approach. PLA-MPs alone reduced buckwheat biomass by 26.

Immobilization remediation is a widely employed technology that effectively reduces the migration rate and bioavailability of cadmium (Cd). Sepiolite, a commonly used remediation agent, has proven effective in decreasing soil Cd availability and reducing Cd accumulation in agricultural products. However, further investigation is needed to understand the impact of sepiolite on soil environmental quality and microbial communities.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is an exceedingly common and profoundly impactful malignancy of the digestive system, posing a grave threat to human health. Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) is an intracellular biological reaction that mobilizes the unfolded protein response (UPR) to tackling dysregulation in protein homeostasis. This process subtly modulates the cell to either restore normal cellular function or steer it towards apoptosis.

IFN alpha signaling drives hematopoietic stem cells malfunction under acute inflammation.

Int Immunopharmacol

January 2025

Department of Hematology, Guangzhou First People's Hospital, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. Electronic address:

Inflammation stimulation regulates the activity of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) through direct-sensing and cytokine-mediation. It is known that HSCs directly sense lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a classical infection-related inflammatory signal, via toll like receptor 4 (TLR4) and subsequently become active. However, the mechanism underlying the activity change of HSCs induced by LPS remains incompletely disclosed.

Electronic address:

Platelets, which are vital for blood clotting and immunity, need to maintain a delicately balanced relationship between generation and destruction. Recent studies have highlighted that reactive oxygen species (ROS), which act as second messengers in crucial signaling pathways, are crucial players in this dance. This review explores the intricate connection between ROS and platelets, highlighting their dual nature.

While single-atom catalysts (SACs) have been extensively investigated as a high-atom-efficiency heterogeneous catalyst for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) oxidation reaction, the stable constructing and activation efficacy of the reaction sites remains less clarified. Herein, we employed gelatin as a N,O-bidentate ligand for Co (II) to form for a N-doped carbon precursor, while introducing NaCl as a template agent to induce the adoption of a Co-N conformation and disorganize the Co-O moiety. This approach facilitates uniform spatial isolation and atomic-level dispersion of Co atoms within the aerogel, effectively inhibiting the aggregation of Co during synthesis and enabling precise and controllable preparation of Co single-atom catalysts (SACs).

January 2025

Beijing Key Laboratory of Farmland Soil Pollution Prevention and Remediation, College of Resources and Environmental Science, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100193, China. Electronic address:

The mycelial networks of fungi promote the interaction between the originally isolated bacteria, thereby potentially enhancing the exchange of nutrients and the horizontal transfer of genetic materials. However, the driving effect of fungi on antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) during mesophilic facultative composting is still unclear. This study aims to elucidate the changes in ARGs and underlying mechanisms during the mesophilic composting of manure.

Indole-3-propionic acid (IPA), a metabolite produced by gut microbiota through tryptophan metabolism, has recently been identified as playing a pivotal role in bone metabolism. IPA promotes osteoblast differentiation by upregulating mitochondrial transcription factor A (Tfam), contributing to increased bone density and supporting bone repair. Simultaneously, it inhibits the formation and activity of osteoclasts, reducing bone resorption, possibly through modulation of the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) pathway and downregulation of osteoclast-associated factors, thereby maintaining bone structural integrity.

Purpose: Congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia (CPT) is a rare condition typically manifesting within the first decade of life. The primary objectives of surgical intervention for CPT include achieving long-term bony union of the tibia, preventing or minimizing limb length discrepancies (LLD), avoiding mechanical axis deviations of the tibia and adjacent joints, and preventing refracture. This study aims to conduct a systematic review of current treatment methods for CPT to determine the most effective non-surgical and surgical management strategies for pediatric patients with this condition.

Sarcopenia is defined as a muscle-wasting syndrome that occurs with accelerated aging, while cachexia is a severe wasting syndrome associated with conditions such as cancer and immunodeficiency disorders, which cannot be fully addressed through conventional nutritional supplementation. Sarcopenia can be considered a component of cachexia, with the bidirectional interplay between adipose tissue and skeletal muscle potentially serving as a molecular mechanism for both conditions. However, the underlying mechanisms differ.
