Zinc is an essential trace element. The regulatory mechanism of zinc and its transporters in fetal growth in monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twins with selective intrauterine growth restriction (MCDA-sIUGR) is unclear. A total of 45 MCDA twins were divided into two groups, MCDA (n=37) and MCDA-sIUGR (n=8), to investigate their possible effects on fetal growth.

The therapeutic outcomes of medications were restricted by the colonic mucosal barrier during the treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC). Micro/nanomotors can overcome the mucus barriers to reach deep colorectal tumors. In this study, we constructed a novel microsized PLGA-Pt micromotor (MM) driven by hydrogen peroxide (HO) to enhance drug delivery to the CRC tissues and achieve effective antitumor therapy.

Imidacloprid (IMI), as an emerging pollutant, is frequently detected in pesticide wastewater. Cobalt-based single-atom catalysts (Co-SACs) doped with sulfur atoms can serve as an efficient strategy to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and degrade organic pollutants. The paper employed density functional theory and computational toxicology to deeply explore the mechanism and ecotoxicity of IMI when S atoms were introduced into Co-SACs for PMS activation.

Acid adaptive response (AAR) is a survival mechanism that allows bacteria to develop enhanced stress tolerance. Our previous research identified AAR in Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris, a thermo-acidophilic bacterium responsible for fruit juice spoilage. However, the roles of specific acidulants, adaptive temperatures, and acidic juice matrices in triggering AAR remain elusive.

Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are widely employed as primary non-surgical cancer treatments; however, their non-selective cytotoxicity often leads to adverse events such as oral mucositis (OM), particularly in head and neck cancer therapies. International guidelines provide recommendations for managing chemoradiotherapy-induced OM in various clinical contexts. Subsequently, emerging researches have introduced evidence supporting novel approaches or existing regimens for OM prevention and treatment.

State Key Laboratory of Southwestern Chinese Medicine Resources, School of Pharmacy, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chengdu, 611137, China; Beijing Institute of Technology Chongqing Innovation Center, Chongqing, 401120, China. Electronic address:

Metastasis as the hallmark of cancer preferentially contributes to tumor recurrence and therapy resistance, aggrandizing the lethality of patients with cancer. Despite their robust suppressions of tumor progression, chemotherapeutics failed to attenuate cancer cell migration and even triggered pro-metastatic effects. In parallel, protease-activated receptor 2 (PAR2), a member of the G protein-coupled receptor subfamily, actively participates in cancer metastasis via multiple signal transduction pathways.

Hydropower Station diversion tunnel layered excavation deformation mechanism under high crustal stress.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Power China Guiyang Engineering Corporation Limited, Guiyang, China, 550081, Guizhou.

Aiming at the crucial engineering challenge of the ambiguous excavation deformation mechanism of hard and brittle surrounding rock under high geos-tress conditions, with the right bank diversion tunnel at the dam site of the hydropower station as the research object, the deformation and failure characteristics of the surrounding rock and their formation mechanisms during the layered excavation of the diversion tunnel were investigated. The research findings show: (1) The main factors influencing the deformation of the diversion tunnel's surrounding rock are the high ground stress environment, the degree of fracture development in the rock mass, and the effectiveness of the support system. (2) Following the excavation of the first layer, extensive shallow damage predominates, with damaged blocks primarily exhibiting sheet-like and plate-like forms.

Ethylene is a signalling factor that plays a key role in the response of plants to abiotic stresses, such as cold stress. Recent studies have shown that the exogenous application of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC), an ethylene promoter, affects plant cold tolerance. The cold-responsive specific gene DREB plays a crucial role in enhancing cold tolerance in plants by activating several cold-responsive (COR) genes.

Electronic address:

As immunosuppressive cells, Regulatory T cells (Tregs) exert their influence on tumor immune escape within the tumor microenvironment (TME) by effectively suppressing the activity of other immune cells, thereby significantly impeding the anti-tumor immune response. In recent years, the metabolic characteristics of Tregs have become a focus of research, especially the important role of lipid metabolism in maintaining the function of Tregs. Consequently, targeted interventions aimed at modulating lipid metabolism in Tregs have been recognized as an innovative and promising approach to enhance the effectiveness of tumor immunotherapy.

January 2025

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper, Tianjin University of Science & Technology, No. 29, 13th Avenue, Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area, Tianjin 300457, China. Electronic address:

In this study, we innovatively prepared a multifunctional lignin crosslinked polyacrylamide (L-cPAM) hydrogel by a sequential two-step strategy of crosslinking of lignin and crosslinked polyacrylamide (cPAM) followed by the polymerization of cPAM. The hydrogen bonding and crosslinking between the molecular chains of lignin and PAM established a rigid and porous network structure, which provided the L-cPAM hydrogel with excellent mechanical strength, thermal stability, and salinity resistance. A series of lignin dosages (0 to 30 %) were investigated during the crosslinking of lignin and PAM.

Background: Transarterial chemoembolisation (TACE) is standard of care for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma that is amenable to embolisation; however, median progression-free survival is still approximately 7 months. We aimed to assess whether adding durvalumab, with or without bevacizumab, might improve progression-free survival.

Methods: In this multiregional, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3 study (EMERALD-1), adults aged 18 years or older with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma amenable to embolisation, an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0 or 1 at enrolment, and at least one measurable intrahepatic lesion per modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumours (RECIST) were enrolled at 157 medical sites including research centres and general and specialist hospitals in 18 countries.

College of Agricultural Engineering, Shanxi Agricultural University, Taigu, 030801, China; Dryland Farm Machinery Key Technology and Equipment Key Laboratory of Shanxi Province, Taigu, 030801, China.

This study introduces an innovative electrochemical biosensor, engineered through the functionalization screen-printed electrode (SPE) with a coordination complex comprised of 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA) and copper ions (Cu), achieving precise quantitative determination of glyphosate. Electrodepositing gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) onto the electrode surface, forming a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of 4-MBA via thiol-gold interactions, and immobilizing Cu via coordination bonding with the monolayer, finalizing the electrochemical biosensor construction as Cu/4-MBA/AuNPs/SPE. The successful modification of the biosensor interface is confirmed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and electrochemical characterization.
