To identify the mechanism underlying macrosteatosis (MaS)-related graft failure (GF) in liver transplantation (LT) by multi-omics network analysis. The transcriptome and metabolome were assayed in graft and recipient plasma in discovery ( = 68) and validation ( = 89) cohorts. Differentially expressed molecules were identified by MaS and GF status.

Objective: Accurate assessment of pressure injuries (PIs) is necessary for a good outcome. Junior and non-specialist nurses have less experience with PIs and lack clinical practice, and so have difficulty staging them accurately. In this work, a deep learning-based system for PI staging and tissue classification is proposed to help improve its accuracy and efficiency in clinical practice, and save healthcare costs.

Objective: Sex-specific differences are observed in various liver diseases, but the influence of sex on the outcomes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after liver transplantation (LT) remains to be determined. This study is the first Chinese nationwide investigation of the role of sex in post-LT outcomes in patients with HCC.

Methods: Data for recipients with HCC registered in the China Liver Transplant Registry between January 2015 and December 2020 were analyzed.

Background: Salvage liver transplantation (SLT) has been reported to be an efficient treatment option for patients with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after liver resection (LR). However, for recipients who underwent liver transplantation (LT) due to recurrent HCC after LR in China, the selection criteria are not well established.

Methods: In this study, data from the China Liver Transplant Registry (CLTR) of 4,244 LT performed from January 2015 to December 2019 were examined, including 3,498 primary liver transplantation (PLT) and 746 SLT recipients.

Pulsed electric field has emerged as a promising modality for the solid tumor ablation with the advantage in treatment planning, however, the accurate prediction of the lesion margin requires the determination of the lethal electric field (E) thresholds. Herein we employ the highly repetitive nanosecond pulsed electric field (RnsPEF) to ablate the normal and VX2 tumor-bearing livers of rabbits. The ultrasound-guided surgery is operated using the conventional double- and newly devised single-needle bipolar electrodes.

Introduction: In order to maximize the utilization of precious donor liver, precisely determining potential hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) candidates who will benefit from liver transplantation (LT) is essential. As a crucial diagnostic biomarker for HCC, protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist-II (PIVKA-II) has become one of the key indicators for assessing tumor recurrence risk after LT. This study aims to investigate the role of PIVKA-II in recipient selection and prognostic stratification.

Background: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been used in liver transplantation and have certain effects in alleviating liver ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) and regulating immune rejection. However, some studies have indicated that the effects of MSCs are not very significant. Therefore, approaches that enable MSCs to exert significant and stable therapeutic effects are worth further study.

The present study reports a patient case with a 17α-hydroxylase deficiency accompanied by triple X syndrome. A 17α-hydroxylase deficiency leads to a very low 17α-hydroxylated steroid synthesis as well as a non-feedback increase in the adrenocorticotropic hormone level. Meanwhile, the progesterone level increases the 17α-hydroxyprogesterone level and decreases the dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate level.

Targeting neuropilin-1 abolishes anti-PD-1-upregulated regulatory T cells and synergizes with 4-1BB agonist for liver cancer treatment.

Hepatology

November 2023

Division of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Department of Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

Background Aims: Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are an obstacle to PD-1 blockade-mediated antitumor efficacy. However, the behaviors of Tregs response to anti-PD-1 in HCC and the characteristics of Tregs tissue adaptation from peripheral lymphoid tissues to the tumor are still unclear.

Approach Results: Here, we determine that PD-1 monotherapy potentially augments the accumulation of tumor CD4 + Tregs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the impact of virtual reality training on various aspects of vision in individuals with asthenopia.
  • Participants were divided into short-term and long-term treatment groups, receiving VR training designed for 15 minutes either once or multiple times a day for a month, with various visual parameters evaluated before and after.
  • Results showed that short-term VR training improved visual acuity, accommodative range, and facility, while long-term training led to significant improvements in accommodative range and facility, but neither type showed evidence of improving myopia.

State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, National Clinical Research Center for Infectious Diseases, National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases, Collaborative Innovation Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China.

To clarify the influence of HIV on the intestinal flora and the interrelationship with CD4 T cells, the present study collected stool specimens from 33 HIV patients and 28 healthy subjects to compare the differences in the intestinal flora and CD4 T cells in a 16S rDNA-sequencing approach. ELISA was used to detect the expressions of interleukin 2 (IL-2), IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Meanwhile, correlation analysis with the different bacterial populations in each group was carried out.
