Introduction: With the rising prevalence of neurocognitive disorders (NCDs) among the aging population, particularly in conditions like mild cognitive impairment (MCI), which often precedes dementia, there remains a significant gap in effective pharmacological interventions. This has generated interest in exploring alternative therapies to manage symptoms and enhance cognitive function in the aging population. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of Medhasagar Rasa® on cognitive functions, daily functioning, and quality of life in participants with aging-associated mild neurocognitive disorder using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) Scale, Ayurvedic Manasabhava Scale, and Brief Cognitive Rating Scale (BCRS).

Introduction: Achieving success in root canal (RC) therapy relies on three key components: comprehensive cleaning of the canal, efficient disinfection, and proper filling of the canal space. The present study aimed to compare the efficacy of four obturation techniques: single cone (SC), GuttaCore (GC), cold lateral condensation (LC), and C Point system for RC filling of permanent teeth.

Materials And Methods: 76 extracted human mandibular first premolars were divided into four groups, with 19 teeth in each group (group A, obturation with SC technique; group B, obturation with GC; group C, obturation with LC; and group D, obturation with C Point system).

Torsemide in Edema Associated with Hepatic Impairment.

J Assoc Physicians India

September 2024

Country Head, Medical Affairs, Cipla Ltd., Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

Hepatic edema is caused by decreased hepatic protein synthesis, a consequence of decompensated liver cirrhosis. Fluid accumulation occurs when there is an increase in hydrostatic pressure in the hepatic sinusoids and splanchnic capillaries, as well as low albumin. The first-line treatment for cirrhosis-related ascites is an aldosterone antagonist (spironolactone); however, in severe and recurring ascites, a combination of aldosterone antagonists and loop diuretics (torsemide, furosemide, and bumetanide) is preferable.

Unique Pharmacological Properties and Safety Profiles of Loop Diuretics.

J Assoc Physicians India

September 2024

Country Head; Medical Affairs, Cipla Ltd., Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

Loop diuretics are regarded as essential for the treatment of edematous conditions in heart failure, cirrhosis, and renal disease. The principal mechanism of action involves inhibiting the reabsorption of ions (Na+, 2Cl-, and K+) from the ascending loop of Henle. The pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) features of the commonly used diuretics (torsemide, furosemide, and bumetanide) influence the selection of diuretics in various disease states and dosing regimens.

Introduction India has the second-highest number of people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV). Despite the national decline in the prevalence of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from 2000 to 2021, regional variations persist, particularly in the northeastern and southern states. High-risk populations, including female sex workers (FSW), men who have sex with men (MSM), and injecting drug users (IDU), significantly contribute to these dynamics.
