The utility of diffusion-weighted whole-body imaging with background body signal suppression in detecting metastatic lesion of germ cell carcinoma.

Introduction: Although the utility of diffusion-weighted whole-body imaging with background body signal suppression for assessing lymph node involvement or distant metastasis is renowned in many cancers, only few studies have revealed its utility for germ cell carcinoma. Some metastatic lesions of germ cell carcinomas are difficult to detect by conventional imaging.

Case Presentation: We report a case of a 70-year-old man with relapsed retroperitoneal germ cell tumor.

The Japanese Clinical Practice Guidelines for Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock 2020 (J-SSCG 2020), a Japanese-specific set of clinical practice guidelines for sepsis and septic shock created as revised from J-SSCG 2016 jointly by the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine, was first released in September 2020 and published in February 2021. An English-language version of these guidelines was created based on the contents of the original Japanese-language version. The purpose of this guideline is to assist medical staff in making appropriate decisions to improve the prognosis of patients undergoing treatment for sepsis and septic shock.

Fatal pulmonary thromboembolism caused by idiopathic ovarian vein thrombosis.

Ovarian vein thrombosis (OVT) is observed in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. It is occasionally diagnosed during the postpartum period or in patients with ovarian malignancy. Few cases of pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) caused by OVT have been reported previously.

A case of plastic bronchitis after mitral valve surgery in an adult.

Plastic bronchitis is a rare and fatal disease that is characterized by the presence of long dendritic bronchial casts in the airway. It is encountered most frequently in children with congenital heart disease after correction surgery. We reported a case of plastic bronchitis after mitral valve surgery in a 70-year-old woman.

Pleural metastasis of thyroid carcinoma diagnosed by thoracoscopy under local anesthesia.

A 79-year-old male patient with no symptoms was referred to us with incidentally detected pleural effusion and nodules. He had previously been diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and had undergone left subtotal thyroidectomy 12 years before his referral. Four years after the operation, he experienced a relapse limited to the cervical lymph node and was treated with neck dissection.
