Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects the upper and lower motor neurons. Several genetic risk factors have been identified in the past decade with a hexanucleotide repeat expansion in the gene being the most significant. However, the presence of repeat expansion has not been examined in the Transcaucasian region, therefore we aimed to analyse its frequency in Georgian patients with ALS.

Objectives: Although liver transplant is highly effective for early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma, guidance on tailored posttransplant management to optimize outcomes is lacking. We examined the incidence and pretransplant radiological scans and indicators of tumor marker associated with posttransplant hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence.

Materials And Methods: We reviewed outcomes of 34 hepatocellular carcinoma candidates aged ≥18 years who underwent living-donor liver transplant between January 2016 and January 2023.

The Effect of Metabolic Control on Diabetes Complication Rates and the Need for Medical Care During COVID-19 Social Isolation in Adjara, Georgia.

Introduction: Social isolation or distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with poor metabolic control in patients with diabetes mellitus. It might have contributed to the high mortality rate of those with diabetes who became infected. This study aims to determine the degree or level of metabolic control in patients with diabetes mellitus, the progression of its complications, and the need for emergency care during social isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nowadays, the reduction of widespread dental diseases (caries and periodontitis) is still crucial and appears to be both a medical and social concern. The aim of this study was an investigation of dental health status, determination of leading risk factors, and determination of preventive measures among the students of the Adjara region. Clinical studies were conducted on 392 students aged 18-25 years.

Objective: To analyse the methylation status of the Long Interspersed Nuclear Element-1 (LINE-1) and Short Interspersed Nuclear Element Alu (Alu) of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from patients with migraine compared with healthy control subjects.

Methods: This case-control study recruited patients with migraine without aura and age-matched healthy control subjects. PBMCs were purified from peripheral blood samples.

Study of the Electrical Conductivity of Ion-Exchange Resins and Membranes in Equilibrium Solutions of Inorganic Electrolytes.

The study of the electrical conductivity of ion-exchange membranes in equilibrium electrolyte solutions is of great importance for the theory of membrane processes, in particular for practical electrodialysis. The purpose of the work is to determine the electrical conductivity of industrial ion-exchange membranes MK-40 and MA-40, as well as their basis-granules of a bulk layer of industrial ion exchangers KU-2-8 and EDE-10p, by differential and modified contact methods in electrolyte solutions and the development of a new methodology that will give the values that are closest to the true ones; determination of the dependence of electrical membrane conductivity depending on the type of counterion and concentration equilibrium solution and granules of a bulk layer of ion exchangers on the volume fraction of a dry ion exchanger with different degrees of compaction. It is shown that the dependence of the electrical conductivity of diaphragms on the electrolyte concentration, according to theoretical ideas, disappears under compression.

The content of bioactive compounds of perennial, fragrant species of tuberose or Polianthes tuberosa L. representing the genus Polianthes L., asparagus (Asparagaceae Juss) family, highly decorative and widely accepted in the perfumery industry and extremely sensitive to environmental conditions, native to Mexico, was studied based on of raw materials of the flowers of the said plant introduced to five different locations of the BBG with various exposition and soil content by green technologies.

Coexistence of asthmatic and non-respiratory allergic symptoms in children of Batumi Region, Georgia: occurrence and association with known diagnosis of asthma.

Objectives: Our recent studies showed that in children in the Batumi region, Georgia, underdiagnosis of asthma is 65%, and that not all children with known asthma had a history of allergic disorders. So, we decided to assess the association of known diagnosis of paediatric asthma with asthma-like symptoms and non-respiratory allergic symptoms and diseases using questionnaire-derived data provided by respiratory health survey.

Methods: Subjects of the cross-sectional population-based study were 3,239 urban and 2,113 rural children aged 5-17 years whose respiratory status was assessed using the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) questionnaire.
