Background: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) with cryoballoon technology is a well-established therapy for treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). Recently, a size-adjustable cryoballoon (POLARx FIT) that enables delivery in a standard 28-mm or an expanded 31-mm size was introduced.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to perform a randomized clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this novel cryoballoon compared to the conventional cryoballoon.

The outcomes of relapsed Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ALL) resistant to new drugs such as tyrosine kinase inhibitors, inotuzumab ozogamicin (InO) and blinatumomab are dismal. We treated two cases of Ph+ALL resistant to these drugs that achieved long-term survival after treatment with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy or a second allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT) with a sequential conditioning regimen. Case 1: A 15-year-old boy was diagnosed with Ph+ALL.

A previous study on this topic could have been affected by recall bias because of the use of a self-reported questionnaire.
Objective: We aimed to explore the relationship between the use of the Wolters Kluwer UpToDate clinical knowledge support system in teaching hospitals and residents' General Medicine In-Training Examination (GM-ITE) scores.

Purpose: In the present trial, the 24-month safety and effectiveness of the TCD-17187 drug-coated balloon (DCB) for the treatment of atherosclerotic lesions in the superficial femoral artery (SFA) and proximal popliteal artery (PA) were evaluated in Japanese patients.
Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter, core laboratory-adjudicated, single-arm trial. From 2019 to 2020, 121 patients with symptomatic peripheral artery disease were enrolled.

Purpose: Carbon-ion radiation therapy (CIRT) is a treatment option for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) that results in better outcomes with fewer side effects despite its high cost. This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of CIRT for HCC from medical and economic perspectives by comparing CIRT and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in patients with localized HCC who were ineligible for surgery or radiofrequency ablation.
Methods And Materials: This study included 34 patients with HCC who underwent either CIRT or TACE at Gunma University between 2007 and 2016.

Evaluating neutron output is important to ensure proper dose delivery for patients in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). It requires efficient quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) while maintaining measurement accuracy. This study investigated the optimal measurement conditions for QA/QC of activation measurements using a high-purity germanium (HP-Ge) detector in an accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy (AB-BNCT) system employing a lithium target.

Background: Drug-eluting devices improved outcomes of endovascular therapy (EVT) for femoropopliteal lesions, but mainly for de novo lesions. Endovascular therapy for in-stent restenosis/occlusion (ISR/O) is challenging, and large trials and long-term data are not well reported.
Materials And Methods: This study is a physician initiated, multicenter, and retrospective design.

Introduction: In this multicenter clinical study, we aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of the transhepatic arterial administration of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF)-mobilized autologous peripheral blood (PB)-CD34 cells compared with standard therapy in patients with decompensated cirrhosis type C.
Methods: Patients were randomly assigned (2:1) to the CD34 cell transplant (CD34 cell) or standard-of-care (SOC) group and followed up for 52 weeks. The primary endpoints were the non-progression rate of Child-Pugh (CP) scores at 24 weeks post-enrollment and the safety of the protocol treatment.

Background: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) are major genetic polycystic kidney diseases that can progress to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Longitudinal data on the clinical characteristics associated with clinical outcomes in polycystic kidney disease (PKD), including the development of ESKD and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are lacking in Japan. To address this unmet need the authors are establishing a novel, web-based, Nationwide Cohort Registry Study-the Japanese Registry of PKD (JRP).

Descending perineal syndrome (DPS) was described by Parks as descent of the anus on straining, typically 3-4 cm below a line drawn from the coccyx to the lower end of the. DPS is associated with obstructed defecation, with increased bulging of the perineum with straining, although perineal descent can also be seen at rest. In their review, Chaudhry and Tarnay stated: "".

Surgery is the most effective treatment for early-stage lung cancer; however, it poses a higher physical burden than other treatment options. Therefore, understanding the perioperative course of patients is important. Using the Short Form Health Survey 36, we prospectively measured the physical quality of life of patients who underwent anatomical pulmonary resection for non-small cell lung cancer at Shonan Kamakura General Hospital, Kanagawa, Japan (n = 87).
