Re-poling of unexpected partially depoled piezoelectric materials conventionally needs to be first fully depoled through annealing above their Curie temperature to revive piezoelectric performances. Here, we investigated de-poling and re-poling of Pb(InNb)O-Pb(MgNb)O-PbTiO single crystals under electric fields at room temperature. We found that alternating current electric fields with amplitudes near the coercive field at low frequencies (<10 Hz) can be employed to successfully depolarize poled crystals at room temperature.

  • Myoelectric hands help individuals with upper-limb deficiencies but are ineffective for those with short stumps or paralysis, prompting the development of a new electric prosthetic hand using wireless sensor technology.
  • A study compared this new prosthetic hand with a standard myoelectric hand (Ottobock), involving ten healthy therapists who tested both devices on fixed forearms while performing specific tasks.
  • Although no significant performance differences were found, the new prosthetic hand showed a smaller increase in fatigue (measured by the Borg scale), indicating its potential for broader use among people with upper-limb deficiencies.

We investigated a speech training support system targeting students in special needs education classes who are engaged in training to acquire a binary relationship where their vocalizations elicit reactions from others. Previously, there was a challenge in maintaining interest and achieving learning effectiveness when teachers intervened to encourage vocalizations using teaching aids such as picture books. To address this, we designed and integrated an electronic circuit with a movable toy that captures the interest of the supported students.

Fine bubbles (FBs) are bubbles with sizes less than 100 μm and are divided into ultrafine bubbles (UFBs, < 1 μm) and microbubbles (MBs, 1-100 μm) depending on their size. Although FB aeration is known as a more efficient way than macrobubble aeration to increase the oxygen level in unoxygenated water, few reports have demonstrated whether dispersed UFBs work as oxygen carriers or not. Furthermore, oxygen supersaturation is one of the attractive characteristics of FB dispersion, but the reason is yet to be revealed.

Probability Distribution on Full Rooted Trees.

Entropy (Basel)

February 2022

Department of Applied Mathematics, Waseda University, Shinjuku-ku 169-8555, Tokyo, Japan.

The recursive and hierarchical structure of full rooted trees is applicable to statistical models in various fields, such as data compression, image processing, and machine learning. In most of these cases, the full rooted tree is not a random variable; as such, model selection to avoid overfitting is problematic. One method to solve this problem is to assume a prior distribution on the full rooted trees.

Fine bubbles (FBs) have attracted significant attention in several research fields. Although some reports have argued that FB dispersion is useful as an oxygen (gas) carrier, only a few reports have examined its properties as an oxygen carrier using experimental data. As one of the reasons for this, there are no standard methods for measuring the oxygen content in FB dispersions.

An extended Bonhoeffer-van der Pol (BVP) oscillator is a circuit that is naturally extended to a three-variable system from a two-variable BVP oscillator. A BVP oscillator is known to exhibit a canard explosion, and the extended BVP oscillator generates mixed-mode oscillations (MMOs). In this work, we considered a case study where the nonlinear conductor in the extended BVP oscillator includes an idealized diode.

We report observations of gamma-ray emissions with energies in the 100-TeV energy region from the Cygnus region in our Galaxy. Two sources are significantly detected in the directions of the Cygnus OB1 and OB2 associations. Based on their positional coincidences, we associate one with a pulsar PSR J2032+4127 and the other mainly with a pulsar wind nebula PWN G75.

We report, for the first time, the long-awaited detection of diffuse gamma rays with energies between 100 TeV and 1 PeV in the Galactic disk. Particularly, all gamma rays above 398 TeV are observed apart from known TeV gamma-ray sources and compatible with expectations from the hadronic emission scenario in which gamma rays originate from the decay of π^{0}'s produced through the interaction of protons with the interstellar medium in the Galaxy. This is strong evidence that cosmic rays are accelerated beyond PeV energies in our Galaxy and spread over the Galactic disk.

Severe respiratory disorder induced by pulmonary inflammation is one of the causes of acute respiratory distress syndrome, which still has high mortality. It is crucial to remove causative substances and inflammatory mediators early in order to inhibit the progression of pulmonary inflammation. Total alveolar lavage (TAL) may avert the inflammatory response by eliminating causative substances in certain inflammatory lung diseases.

Article Synopsis
  • This research focuses on analyzing the pulsatile velocity of blood vessel walls in patients with aneurysms, exploring how frequency and trajectory changes relate to blood vessel diseases.
  • Key findings show that vasomotion exists as a regular fluctuation in blood vessel wall pulsations, with lower frequencies indicating mechanical deterioration while high frequencies reflect specific changes due to aneurysms.
  • The study suggests that by separating the frequency components into low and high regions, it's possible to more accurately detect blood vessel diseases based on the mechanical and morphological characteristics of the walls.
