Transcription analysis of a histones modifiers panel coupled with critical tumor suppressor genes displayed frequent changes in patients with AML.: mRNA levels of histones modifiers and TSGs in AML.

Curr Res Transl Med

October 2021

Department of Laboratory Hematology and Blood Bank, School of Allied Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran; HSCT Research Center, Shahid Beheshti University of medical science, Tehran, Iran. Electronic address:

Epigenetic alterations could cause leukemia through the activation of normally silent loci or silencing of normally active loci. We herein aimed to compare the expression patterns of a histone modifiers panel consisted of SUV39H1, PRDM16, UHRF2, KDM2B, and KDM3C between acute myeloid leukemia(AML) cells and normal cells and to assess the correlation of these genes with the expression of vital tumor suppressor genes, including p16 and p53. Bone marrow or peripheral blood samples of 50 AML patients at diagnosis and also 18 subjects with a normal hematopoietic system as a control group were obtained after informed consent.

Objective: Breast cancer (BC) is the most significant and lethal type of cancer in women. Although there are many newly develop chemotherapy drugs for patients with BC treating at various stages, drug resistance is the most important obstacle in their effectiveness for BC treatment. On the other hand, microRNAs are considered key regulators of genes involved in carcinogenesis and chemoresistance in cancers.

Meta-analysis of gene signatures and key pathways indicates suppression of JNK pathway as a regulator of chemo-resistance in AML.

Sci Rep

June 2021

Department of Cell and Molecular Biology and Microbiology, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Isfahan, Isfahan, Islamic Republic of Iran.

The pathways and robust deregulated gene signatures involved in AML chemo-resistance are not fully understood. Multiple subgroups of AMLs which are under treatment of various regimens seem to have similar regulatory gene(s) or pathway(s) related to their chemo-resistance phenotype. In this study using gene set enrichment approach, deregulated genes and pathways associated with relapse after chemotherapy were investigated in AML samples.

Increased Expression of is Predictive of Lymph Node Metastasis in Colorectal Cancer: Results from a 20-Gene Expression Signature.

J Pers Med

February 2021

Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Research Center, Research Institute for Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Yaman Street, Chamran Expressway, P.O. Box 19857-17411, Tehran, Iran.

This study aimed at building a prognostic signature based on a candidate gene panel whose expression may be associated with lymph node metastasis (LNM), thus potentially able to predict colorectal cancer (CRC) progression and patient survival. The mRNA expression levels of 20 candidate genes were evaluated by RT-qPCR in cancer and normal mucosa formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues of CRC patients. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the prognosis performance of our model by calculating the area under the curve (AUC) values corresponding to stage and metastasis.

Purpose: Recent evidence has indicated that miRNAs play an important role in both initiation and progression of many pathologic processes such as diabetes and can be used as an important and more sensitive tool to predict the development of the disease than the currently used biomarkers. This research aimed at comparing miR-7-5p and miR-33a-5p expression levels in the diabetics and pre-diabetics with the control group.

Methods: In this study, we compared expression of miR-7-5p and miR-33a-5p in plasma of three groups including pre-diabetic patients ( = 20), T2D patients ( = 20) and control group ( = 20), using RT-qPCR.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to evaluate how effectively mean ADC values can distinguish endometrial carcinoma (EC) from benign lesions by reviewing existing literature and conducting a meta-analysis of relevant studies.
  • After reviewing 11 studies involving 269 EC cases and 208 benign cases, the findings showed that mean ADC values for EC (0.82) are significantly lower than those for benign lesions (1.41), with high sensitivity (93%) and specificity (94%) for diagnosis.
  • Although the overall diagnostic accuracy (AUC of 98%) is promising, the study concludes that further research with larger sample sizes and improved methodologies is necessary before ADC measurement can be recommended in clinical settings.
