Background: Multiple molecular expression alterations, particularly in non-coding RNAs, play fundamental roles in the regulations of cellular processes and may relate to the occurrence and progression of colorectal cancer (CRC). In the present study, we investigated the associations between TGFBR2, miR20a-5p and long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) LAMTOR5-AS1 in CRC patients.
Methods: Colorectal cancer and adjacent normal tissue samples (n = 34) were prepared from CRC patients.

Precise diagnosis of thyroid nodules is challenging due to non-diagnostic/inconclusive results and uncertainties about the malignancy of follicular neoplasms (FNs), even in frozen-section pathology. Therefore, surgical management, especially in Bethesda III and IV categories, may be complicated, and sometimes a second surgery may be required. The Thyroid Nodule Impedance Measurement System (TN-IMS) consists of a metallic patch attached to submental skin and a G20 I.

Background & Objectives: Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signalling pathway has been reported to be involved in metastasis and at the same time has been considered compellingly an important mediator of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Besides, EMT process is maintained by zinc-finger E-box-binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1) gene which is induced by TGF-β pathway. TGF-β has been shown to be associated with elevated microsatellite alterations at selected tetranucleotide repeats (EMAST) phenomenon, which is one of the prognostic biomarkers of colorectal cancer (CRC).

Oral colonization and infection by Candida species are common in cancer patients receiving chemoradiotherapy, which has significantly increased in recent years. This study aimed to evaluate the frequency, distribution, and antifungal susceptibility profiles of Candida species isolates in patients with hematological malignancy and solid tumors. This study was conducted on a total of 45 cancer patients undergoing treatment with concurrent chemoradiotherapy within 2019-2020.

Introduction: Epicardial pacemakers are known as an alternative for endocardial pacemakers in some cases such as heart block, and complex congenital heart diseases. Considering recent advances and improvement of epicardial lead subtypes, it is essential to investigate the long-term function of them. In this study, we aimed to assess the sensing and pacing characteristics, and survival of bipolar steroid-eluting and unipolar nonsteroid-eluting epicardial pacemakers.

Colorectal cancer is highly prevalent worldwide and has significant morbidity and mortality in humans. High-atomic-number nanoparticles such as iodine can act as X-rays absorbers to increase the local dose. The synthesis and fabrication of oxaliplatin-loaded iodine nanoparticles, their characterization, cell toxicity, radiosensitivity, cell apoptosis, and cell cycle assay in human colorectal cancer (HT-29) cells are investigated.

Background: Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading reason for cancer-related death among women. Neoadjuvant treatment with dual-HER2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2) blockade has shown promising effects in this regard. The present study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of a proposed pertuzumab biosimilar with the reference pertuzumab.

Introduction: Despite the increasing vaccination coverage, COVID-19 is still a concern. With the limited health care capacity, early risk stratification is crucial to identify patients who should be prioritized for optimal management. The present study investigates whether on-admission lactate dehydrogenase to albumin ratio (LAR) can be used to predict COVID-19 outcomes.

Acute compartment syndrome (ACS) is defined as increased pressure within a confined compartmental space, leading to a decline in the perfusion pressure of the tissue within that compartment. To date, the commonly held belief has been that ACS was first described by Richard von Volkmann in 1881. However, we propose that ACS was originally described by Abul Qasim Al-Zahrawi approximately 900 years earlier.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of the Lactate to Albumin (L/A) ratio compared to that of lactate and lactate clearance in predicting outcomes in patients with septic shock. This was a multi-center observational study of adult patients with septic shock, who admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) at Shohada and Imam Reza Hospitals, Tabriz, Iran, between Sept 2018 and Jan 2021. The area under the curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to explore associations of the L/A ratio, lactate and lactate clearance on the primary (mortality) and secondary outcomes [ICU length of stay (LOS), duration of mechanical ventilation (MV), need of renal replacement therapy (RRT) and duration of using vasopressors] at baseline, 6 h and 24 h of septic shock recognition.

Natural products such as curcumin, quercetin, and resveratrol have been shown to have antitumor effectsand several studies have examined their role in treating cancer, either alone or in combination with other chemotherapeutic drugs. These compounds are capable of affecting different cancer-related mechanisms, such as proliferation, inflammation, invasion, and metastasis. Along with all of the benefits of these agents, affecting epigenetic processes is one of the most important aspects of their impact.

Ataxia-telangiectasia (AT) is a type of primary immunodeficiency characterized by an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance and usually presents with progressive cerebellar ataxia in early life. This complex disease is associated with humoral and cellular immune dysfunction and other features including characteristic oculocutaneous telangiectasia and increased predisposition to cancers, particularly lymphoma and leukemia. An 11-year-old Iranian girl presented with primary immunodeficiency and was diagnosed as having AT according to her clinical manifestations and molecular findings.

Currently, cancer is ranked among the top ten causes of death worldwide. Despite the advances made in the field of cancer treatment, 5-year survival rates of various types of cancer are still low due to the recurrence of the disease and/or metastasis. Dissemination of cancer cells, infiltration into the blood vessels, migration to the targeted organs, extravasation, and colonization are the main steps of metastasis.

Tuberculosis (TB) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are two major contributors to mortality and morbidity worldwide. In this regard, TB and NSCLC have similar symptoms, and TB has symptoms that are identical to malignancy; therefore, sometimes it is mistakenly diagnosed as lung cancer. Moreover, patients with active pulmonary TB are at a higher risk of dying due to lung cancer.

The use of nanoparticles as a sonosensitizer in cancer sonodynamic therapy has been gaining attention because of their great advantages in drug delivery applications. By conjugating chemotherapy agents with nanoparticles, we can develop a drug delivery platform, control drug release and improve the outcome of treatments. The in-vitro study described here evaluates the combination of AuSiO nanoparticles and dacarbazine (DTIC@AuSiO) as a sonosensitizer for sonodynamic therapy of melanoma.

Leukemia is a lethal cancer in which white blood cells undergo proliferation and immature white blood cells are seen in the bloodstream. Without diagnosis and management in early stages, this type of cancer can be fatal. Changes in protooncogenic genes and microRNA genes are the most important factors involved in development of leukemia.
