Background: The epicardial connections (ECs) via intercaval fibres connecting the right-sided pulmonary veins (PVs) and right atrium (RA) can preclude isolation of the right-sided PVs. Such ECs occasionally have a unidirectional conduction property.

Background: Coughing and other distress during bronchoscopy are undesirable for both patients and bronchoscopists. The efficacy of local anesthetics administered via aerosol sprays in the airways has been documented; however, the optimal administration method remains unclear. Furthermore, the efficacy of continuous salivary aspiration in reducing cough and other distress has not yet been evaluated.

Ovarian Cancer with TTF-1-positive Giant Pleural Dissemination.

Thyroid transcription factor 1 (TTF-1) is primarily expressed in lung and thyroid cancers, but it has also been observed in other cancers. A 60-year-old woman presented with worsening dyspnea, pleural effusion, lung metastases, a right ovarian tumor, and para-aortic intra-abdominal lymph node metastasis. Biopsies from the pleural dissemination revealed TTF-1-positive adenocarcinomas.

Epstein-Barr virus-positive mucocutaneous ulcer resulting in severe methotrexate intoxication: a case report.

Background: Epstein-Barr virus-positive mucocutaneous ulcer is one of the mature B-cell lymphoproliferative diseases occurring in patients with immune dysfunction including those with immunosuppressive treatment such as methotrexate.

Case Presentation: A Japanese elderly man in his 80s with rheumatoid arthritis on methotrexate was admitted to our hospital complaining persistent pharyngeal pain. Laboratory tests revealed severe pancytopenia, elevated C-reactive protein, and increased creatinine levels.

Efficacy of autologous platelet-rich plasma gel in patients with hard-to-heal diabetic foot ulcers: a multicentre study in Japan.

Objective: To evaluate the healing outcome of a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gel prepared using TKKT01 (a wound care device to prepare the PRP gel) in patients with hard-to-heal diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) and who showed an inadequate response to ≥4 weeks of standard of care (SoC).

Method: This open-label, single-arm, multicentre study was conducted in 15 centres in Japan. Eligible patients received PRP gel treatment twice a week for eight weeks, followed by a final evaluation after the completion of week 8 (day 57).

Olanzapine Plus Triple Antiemetic Therapy for the Prevention of Carboplatin-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Phase III Trial.

Purpose: We evaluated the efficacy and safety of antiemetic therapy with olanzapine, a neurokinin-1 receptor antagonist (RA), a 5-hydroxytryptamine-3 (5-HT) RA, and dexamethasone for preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in patients receiving carboplatin-containing chemotherapy.

Patients And Methods: Chemotherapy-naïve patients scheduled to receive carboplatin (AUC ≥5) were randomly assigned to receive either olanzapine 5 mg once daily (olanzapine group) or placebo (placebo group) in combination with aprepitant, a 5-HT RA, and dexamethasone. The primary end point was the complete response (CR; no vomiting and no rescue therapy) rate in the overall phase (0-120 hours).

In this study, all development processes of the deep-learning models are performed based on strict criteria of the "KAIZEN checklist", which is proposed based on previous AI development guidelines to overcome the deficiencies mentioned above.

Efficacy of intraoperative irrigation with artificial cerebrospinal fluid in chronic subdural hematoma surgery: study protocol for a multicenter randomized controlled trial.

Background: The surgical techniques for treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH), a common neurosurgical condition, have been discussed in a lot of clinical literature. However, the recurrence proportion after CSDH surgery remains high, ranging from 10 to 20%. The standard surgical procedure for CSDH involves a craniostomy to evacuate the hematoma, but irrigating the hematoma cavity during the procedure is debatable.
