We report the first large-scale retrospective cohort study on adolescent and young adult (AYA) polycythemia vera (PV) and essential thrombocythemia (ET) in Japan, a subgroup analysis using Japanese multicenter registry data (JSH-MPN-R18). This study included patients with PV (n = 31) or ET (n = 141) aged 20 to 39 years at the initial visit. Hemorrhage-free survival (HFS) was better in AYA ET than in non-AYA ET (5-year HFS: 100% vs.

Background: We developed a novel method to measure the angle of subjective postural vertical (SPV) and showed that the SPV may be related to the exacerbation of the forward flexed posture.
Objectives: The present study prospectively tested the effects of the subjective postural vertical on the exacerbation of the forward flexion of trunk (FFT) through long-term observation of Parkinson's disease patients.
Methods: Evaluation of the posture included measuring FFT, the angle of lateral flexion of trunk, and the angle at the position that the patient subjectively perceived as the vertical position at a stationary upright position immediately after standing up at the time of initial observation, 6 months later, and 1 year later.

Aims: Safety of aspirin-free strategy immediately after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes was unknown.
Methods And Results: We conducted the prespecified subgroup analysis on diabetes in the STOPDAPT-3 trial, which randomly compared prasugrel (3.75 mg/day) monotherapy (2984 patients) to dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with prasugrel and aspirin (2982 patients) in patients with acute coronary syndrome or high bleeding risk.

Ex vivo cultivated oral mucosal epithelial cell transplantation (COMET) was first introduced in Japan in June 2021. This technique is used to treat limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD). This article provides a detailed description of one of the most critical steps in COMET, which is the harvesting of oral mucosa, along with accompanying videos.

A 63-year-old male with high myopia developed sudden visual loss, eyelid swelling, eye pain, discharge, and tearing in his left eye while wearing soft contact lenses (CLs) during the day and orthokeratology lenses at night. At the initial visit, his corrected visual acuity in the left eye was 20/1000, with a ring-shaped ulcer in the central cornea, corneal infiltration across the entire cornea, and conjunctival hyperemia. was detected from corneal scrapings, and after antibiotic treatment, the ulcer healed with corneal opacity remaining.

This study aims to delineate the unique learning curve for fenestrated endovascular aortic repair (FEVAR) at our institution. We measured the FEVAR-specific procedure time (FSPT) as the duration from device deployment to bridging stent completion. To maintain consistency in technical complexity, the study focused on 38 cases with four-fenestration FEVAR for juxtarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms, selected from 103 of all FEVAR procedures between June 2011 and February 2024.

Migraine is a multifactorial brain disorder characterized by recurrent disabling headaches and their associated features. Several studies have suggested that these features are related to headache impact, pain intensity, and psychiatric conditions. However, differences in the relationship between each associated feature and headache impact, pain intensity, or psychiatric conditions remain unclear.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a major cause of death in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD). Blood pressure (BP) and uremic toxins are well-known risk factors for CVDs, which are influenced by diet. Dietary fiber supplementation in patients undergoing HD may reduce the risk of CVDs by improving lipid profiles and inflammatory status and lowering the levels of the uremic toxin indoxyl sulfate (IS).

Galcanezumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting the calcitonin gene-related peptide pathway (CGRP mAb), acts peripherally due to its large size. However, recent studies have suggested that CGRP mAbs may also have a central mode of action. This study aimed to evaluate the central effects of galcanezumab on migraine central sensitization.

Acute airway obstruction, whether partial or complete, requires immediate intervention to prevent fatal outcomes. An 81-year-old man with a history of pneumonia experienced respiratory distress after attempting to swallow a large piece of meat. Despite attempts by his daughter, back blows and abdominal thrusts failed to dislodge the obstruction, and he collapsed, prompting an emergency call.

Introduction: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains a major complication after total hip arthroplasty (THA), irrespective of the surgical approach. This study investigated the incidence of VTE in patients undergoing THA through intermuscular minimally invasive surgical techniques, which included a direct anterior approach (DAA), an anterolateral approach (AL), and an anterolateral supine approach (ALS), at a single institution.
Methods: A hundred consecutive patients treated with each surgical approach were evaluated.

: Sudden volcanic eruptions can lead to volcanic ash entering the eyes, causing severe discomfort and complicating evacuation efforts. The specific effects of volcanic ash on ocular tissues, especially when wearing soft contact lenses (SCLs), are not well documented, prompting this experimental investigation. : White rabbits with normal eyes were randomly divided into three groups: (1) a bare eye group: bare eye + volcanic ash exposure + eye washing, (2) an SCL group: SCL-wearing eye + volcanic ash exposure + eye washing, and (3) a control group: eye washing only.
