Article Synopsis
  • Malignant Mesothelioma (MM) is a serious rare cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, which is now banned in many countries like Iran due to its danger, but it can still be found in the environment.
  • Symptoms of MM can take a long time, sometimes up to 50 years, to show up in people who were exposed to asbestos.
  • A study in southern Iran looked at 35 cases of MM and found more cases among housekeepers and oil company workers, with many patients dying not long after being diagnosed.

Conducting C-C cross-coupling reactions under convenient and mild conditions remains extremely challenging in traditional organic synthesis. In this study, ZnCoO@g-CN@Cu exhibited extraordinary photocatalytic performance as a new visible light harvesting heterogeneous copper-based photocatalyst in cyanation and Mizoroki-Heck visible-light-driven cross-coupling reactions at room temperature and in air. Surprisingly, by this method, the cyanation and Mizoroki-Heck cross-coupling reactions of various iodo-, bromo- and also the challenging chloroarenes with respectively K[Fe(CN)]·3HO and olefins produced promising results in a sustainable and mild media.

A nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) complex of Cu(ii) supported on silica-coated nanosized magnetite FeO@SiO-Pr-DEA-[NTA-Cu(ii)] was prepared as a new well-defined magnetically separable nanomaterial and fully characterized IR, XRD, FESEM, TEM, TGA, DLS, BET, VSM, solid-state UV-vis spectroscopy, EDX, ICP-OES, and FESEM-EDX map analyses. Thereafter, it was successfully applied as a new easily magnetically separable and reusable heterogeneous nanocatalyst for the Buchwald-Hartwig C-N bond formation reaction in DMF at 110 °C. Using this method, various kinds of nitrogen heterocycles, such as imidazoles, 2-methyl-1-imidazole, benzimidazole, indole, and 10-phenothiazine as well as aliphatic secondary amines such as piperidine, piperazine, morpholine, dimethylamine, and diethylamine, were reacted with aryl halide compounds, and the desired products were obtained with good to excellent yields.

The aim of this study was to develop a new active coating of layer-by-layer (LbL) structure composed of alginate (as polyanions) and chitosan (as a polycation) containing sulfated polysaccharide (fucoidan) from , to protect rainbow trout fillets during refrigerated storage. Chitosan and alginate do not combine with each other as a homogeneous solution, so they are suitable for multilayer coatings. The results demonstrated that coating samples with chitosan and fucoidan significantly improved the quality of fish fillets and extended their shelf life from 6 to 16 days.

This paper evaluates the electronic effects of molecular substituents on the stereoselectivity of the umpolung Staudinger catalytic reaction. This is especially important because experimental studies on constructing the β-lactam ring, a core structure of most antibiotics, through catalyzed Staudinger reactions have been massively progressing over the last century. Yet, there is a necessity for an in-depth understanding of the reaction mechanisms to help chemists, working on the well-established discoveries, improve these to optimize the stereoselectivity and yield of synthetic methods.
