Gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) can be divided immunophenotypically into gastric, intestinal, or mixed gastric and intestinal phenotypes. Cadherin 17 (CDH17) and CD10 have been used as comprehensive markers for intestinal epithelial cells and for small intestinal absorptive cells in GACs, respectively. Sucrase-isomaltase (SI) and CD10 are expressed in small intestinal absorptive cells and SI is more frequently expressed than CD10 in gastric intestinal metaplasia (IM).

When cancer metastasizes to bone, the resulting pain and functional disorders due to bone destruction adversely affect the patient's quality of life. We have developed a new cancer metastasis control system consisting of anticancer agents conjugated to carbon fibers (CFs), which are nonbiodegradable, carriers of a wide variety of molecules with extremely high affinity for bone. In the evaluation of cancer suppression effects on Walker 256 cancer cells, cisplatin (CDDP)-conjugated CFs (CF-CDDP) were found to be as effective in cancer suppression as CDDP.

Although current immune-checkpoint therapy (ICT) mainly targets lymphoid cells, it is associated with a broader remodeling of the tumor micro-environment. Here, using complementary forms of high-dimensional profiling, we define differences across all hematopoietic cells from syngeneic mouse tumors during unrestrained tumor growth or effective ICT. Unbiased assessment of gene expression of tumor-infiltrating cells by single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) and longitudinal assessment of cellular protein expression by mass cytometry (CyTOF) revealed significant remodeling of both the lymphoid and myeloid intratumoral compartments.

Cochlear implantation (CI), which directly stimulates the cochlear nerves, is the most effective and widely used medical intervention for patients with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. The etiology of the hearing loss is speculated to have a major influence of CI outcomes, particularly in cases resulting from mutations in genes preferentially expressed in the spiral ganglion region. To elucidate precise gene expression levels in each part of the cochlea, we performed laser-capture micro dissection in combination with next-generation sequencing analysis and determined the expression levels of all known deafness-associated genes in the organ of Corti, spiral ganglion, lateral wall, and spiral limbs.

With the advance of gastrointestinal endoscopy, pill-induced esophagitis has been detected more frequently, but the association of mucosal dissection is rare. We reported a case of pill-induced esophagitis associated with mucosal dissection.A 66-year-old male with combined valvular heart disease was admitted for cardiac surgery.

Hepatic myelopathy is a rare neurological complication in patients with chronic liver failure and most patients who suffered from this disorder were demonstrated to have portal-systemic shunt. A 31-year-old man who was diagnosed as having adult-onset type II citrullinemia (CTLN2) and had a six-year history of recurrent hepatic encephalopathy showed progressive spastic paraparesis with no involvement of sensation and sphincter function. Examinations of cerebrospinal fluid and spinal MRI were normal.

Total hip arthroplasty (THA) has become an almost standard procedure for the treatment of various hip lesions. However, one of the limitations has been the mechanical loosening of the prosthesis, a condition termed peri-prosthetic osteolysis. Consequently, at revision surgery, various grades of bone defect are often noted.
