Article Synopsis
  • A new 3-step approach has been developed to predict advanced fibrosis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), showing improved accuracy over the traditional 2-step method.
  • This approach includes an initial Fibrosis-4 index (FIB-4) test, followed by an enhanced liver fibrosis test if needed, and lastly vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE) if the previous results indicate a risk.
  • Implementing this 3-step method not only boosts diagnostic performance but also reduces the number of patients needing referrals to specialists, liver biopsies, and can save healthcare costs by approximately 12.5% to 15.8%.

Anterior cervical disc replacement (ACDR) using cervical artificial disc (CAD) has the advantage of maintaining the range of motion (ROM) at the surgical level, subsequently reducing the postoperative risk of adjacent disc disease. Following the approval for the clinical use in Japan, a post-marketing surveillance (PMS) study was conducted for two different types of CAD, namely, Mobi-C (metal-on-plastic design) and Prestige LP (metal-on-metal design). The objective of this prospective observational multicenter study was to analyze the first 2-year surgical results of the PMS study of 1-level ACDR in Japan.
