COVID-19 has brought speculations on potential transmission routes of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causal agent of the pandemic. It is reported that the main route of virus transmission to be person-to-person by respiratory droplets; however, people have raised concerns on the possible transmission of SARS-CoV-2 to humans via food and packaging and its potential effects on food safety. This review discusses food safety issues in the COVID-19 pandemic and reveals its possible transmission in cold-chain food.

Secular Trends and Geographic Maps of Hepatitis C Virus Infection among 4 Million Blood Donors in Taiwan from 1999 to 2017.

The prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in Taiwan was approximately 4% a decade ago, much higher than the worldwide average. This study aimed to assess the HCV burden among 4 million voluntary blood donors after 2 decades of prevention and treatment policies. We retrieved screening results for anti-HCV and HCV RNA from the Database for Evaluating Voluntary Taiwanese Eligible Donors.

Background: Disorders related to dysfunction of coenzyme (CoQ) metabolism, including AarF domain containing kinase 3 gene (ADCK3) mutations, have received attention due to the potential for response to CoQ supplementation.

Methods: We describe two new cases of neurological syndromes due to ADCK3 mutations that obtained striking benefit from CoQ10, and a third who did not. We also review 20 cases from the literature in which responses to CoQ10 were documented out of all 38 previously reported cases.

Common complications of this procedure include bleeding, infection, and hollow organ perforation. We present the case of a patient with hepatoma who underwent radiofrequency ablation.

Background Clopidogrel was thought to be superior to aspirin for secondary prevention of vascular diseases in clinical trials. In this study we assessed the safety and efficacy of clopidogrel versus aspirin in real-world practice by using the Taiwan Stroke Registry. Methods and Results Patients with ischemic stroke (2006-2016) on aspirin or clopidogrel for secondary stroke prevention were identified in the Taiwan Stroke Registry.

Background: Tumor cells continuously evolve over time in response to host pressures. However, explanations as to how tumor cells are influenced by the inflammatory tumor microenvironment over time are, to date, poorly defined. We hypothesized that prognostic biomarkers could be obtained by exploring the expression of inflammation-associated genes between early and late stage lung cancer tumor samples.

Aims/introduction: Admission hyperglycemia is associated with poor outcome in patients with myocardial infarction. The present study evaluated the relationship between admission glucose level and other clinical variables in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Materials And Methods: The 959 consecutive STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI were divided into five groups based on admission glucose levels of <100, 100-139, 140-189, 190-249 and ≥250 mg/dL.
