Aims: To develop and internally validate a preoperative clinical prediction model for acute adjacent vertebral fracture (AVF) after vertebral augmentation to support preoperative decision-making, named the after vertebral augmentation (AVA) score.
Methods: In this prognostic study, a multicentre, retrospective single-level vertebral augmentation cohort of 377 patients from six Japanese hospitals was used to derive an AVF prediction model. Backward stepwise selection (p < 0.
Purpose: The role of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) alone for patients with gastrointestinal (GI) cancer has yet to be established based on a large patient series. We analyzed post-SRS treatment results and reappraised whether either the GI graded prognostic assessment (GPA) system or modified-recursive partitioning assessment (M-RPA) system was applicable to our 802 SRS-treated patients with GI cancer with brain metastases.
Methods And Materials: This was an institutional review board approved retrospective cohort study 2 database comprising 802 patients with GI cancer treated with gamma-knife SRS by 2 experienced neurosurgeons during the 1998 to 2018 period.

Introduction: The maximum number of vertebral bodies with bony bridges between adjacent vertebrae (max VB) helps assess the risk of fracture in diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH). In addition to max VB, the maximum thickness of bone cross-bridges (max TB) may be an index of bone mineral density (BMD). Therefore, this study investigated the relationship among max VB, max TB, and BMD.

Background: Socratic method, which is an educational method to promote critical thinking through a dialogue, has never been practiced in a large number of people at the academic societies.
Methods: Modified Socratic method was performed for the first time as an educational seminar using an example case of moderate acute cholecystitis based on the evidence described in Tokyo Guidelines 2018. We adopted a method that Takada had been modifying for many years: the instructor first knows the degree of recognition of the audience, then the instructor gives a lecture in an easy-to-understand manner and receives questions from the audience, followed by repeated questions and answers toward a common recognition.

Antifibrotic therapy (AFT) slows disease progression in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The Gender-Age-Physiology (GAP) index, was developed based on data at IPF diagnosis before the introduction of AFT and has not been evaluated in the AFT context. Further, recent advances have revealed the importance of body-composition factors in prognosis of IPF treated with AFT.

Background: Currently, there are two antifibrotics used to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF): pirfenidone and nintedanib. Antifibrotics slow disease progression by reducing the annual decline of forced vital capacity (FVC), which possibly improves outcomes in IPF patients. During treatment, patients occasionally switch antifibrotic treatments.

The clinical presentation of stroke is usually more severe in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) than in those with cerebral infarction (CI); recovery of stroke-related muscle paralysis is influenced and limited by the type of stroke. To date, many patients have been treated by neurorehabilitation; however, the changes in the recovery of motor paralysis depending on the type of stroke, ICH or CI, have not been established. This study aimed to determine this difference in improvement of upper extremity paralysis using 2-week in-hospital NovEl intervention Using Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with Occupational therapy (NEURO).
