Squamous cell carcinoma arising from anal fistula in an HIV-positive individual: a case report.

Chronic anal fistula represents a prevalent form of perianal disease that frequently originates from perianal infection. Specifically, perianal abscesses that are inadequately or improperly treated are susceptible to the development of chronic anal fistulas. In HIV-infected individuals, an impaired immune system significantly diminishes the body's capacity to combat infections and inflammation, thereby complicating the healing process of anal fistulas.

Pyogenic liver abscess after Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy.

Milligan-Morgan(M-M) hemorrhoidectomy is regarded as the primary treatment option for patients diagnosed with grade III or IV hemorrhoids. Here, we present the case of a 50-year-old male who developed pyogenic liver abscesses as an unusual complication following M-M hemorrhoidectomy. Severe complications subsequent to hemorrhoid surgery are infrequent.

Geometric basis of action potential of skeletal muscle cells and neurons.

Although we know something about single-cell neuromuscular junctions, it is still unclear how multiple skeletal muscle cells coordinate to complete intricate spatial curve movement. Here, we hypothesize that skeletal muscle cell populations with action potentials are aligned according to curved manifolds in space (a curved shape in space). When a specific motor nerve impulse is transmitted, the skeletal muscle also moves according to the corresponding shape (manifolds).

Nusinersen as a Therapeutic Agent for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

The reduction of survival motor neuron (SMN) protein causes spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), an autosomal recessive neuromuscular disease. Nusinersen is an antisense oligonucleotide, approved by the FDA, which specifically binds to the repressor within SMN2 exon 7 to enhance exon 7 inclusion and augment production of functional SMN protein. Nusinersen is the first new oligonucleotide-based drug targeting the central nervous system for the treatment of SMA.

A Functional Polymorphism in the Promoter Region of Interleukin-12B Increases the Risk of Colorectal Cancer.

Objective: To investigate whether the polymorphisms of interleukin-12B () were associated with the risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC). . Genotypes of rs17860508 and rs3212227 were determined by polymerase chain reaction with a direct sequencing method in 329 CRC patients and 342 matched healthy control subjects.
