Both long-term exposure to air pollution and abnormal fasting blood glucose (FBG) are linked to dyslipidemia prevalence. However, the joint role of air pollution and FBG on dyslipidemia remains unknown clearly. In this study, we aimed to test whether abnormal FBG could enhance the risks of long-term exposure to air pollutants on dyslipidemia in general Chinese adult population.

In the previous studies, circular RNA (circRNA) has been shown to be closely related to the occurrence and development of various cancers. However, the role and mechanism of circ-ATIC in the progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is not yet clear. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to detect the expression levels of circ-ATIC, microRNA (miR)-326 and inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) in tissues (n = 50) and cells.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide. Accumulating evidence has shown that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) serve important roles in the development of OSCC. The purpose of this study was to investigate the biological function and underlying regulatory mechanism of lncRNA homeobox A cluster antisense RNA2 (HOXA-AS2) in OSCC.

Metabolomic Profiling of Aqueous Humor and Plasma in Primary Open Angle Glaucoma Patients Points Towards Novel Diagnostic and Therapeutic Strategy.

Front Pharmacol

April 2021

Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Eye and ENT Hospital, Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness globally characterized by progressive loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and irreversible visual deficiency. As the most common type of glaucoma, primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is currently an unmet medical need with limited therapy by lowering intraocular pressure (IOP). However, some patients continue to progress even though their IOP are controlled.

Long non‑coding RNAs (lncRNAs) serve important roles in the tumorigenesis of a diverse range of cancer types. The lung cancer‑associated transcript 1 (LUCAT1), has been reported to promote the proliferation, migration and invasion of oral squamous cell carcinoma cells. However, the exact role of LUCAT1 in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) remains to fully understood.

Objective: This study describes the imaging of the filtering area in CO laser-assisted sclerectomy surgery (CLASS) using ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) combined with the Indiana Bleb Appearance Grading Scale (IBAGS) and evaluates the mechanism by which CLASS lowers the intraocular pressure (IOP).

Methods: Twenty-eight cases (28 eyes) of primary open-angle glaucoma that could not be controlled by drugs underwent CLASS. At 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months after surgery, IBAGS was used to evaluate the external morphology of the filtering blebs, and UBM was used to describe and measure their internal structure.

We show that down-regulation of circular ribonucleic acid 0001588 with small interfering-circular ribonucleic acid 0001588 mimics promoted caspase-3 and caspase-9 activity levels, increased lactate dehydrogenase activity levels, and reduced cell growth of in vitro model. Circular ribonucleic acid 0001588 plasmids increased circular ribonucleic acid 0001588 expressions and promoted cell growth and reduced activity levels of lactate dehydrogenase, caspase-3, and caspase-9 activity levels in vitro model of Alzheimer's disease. Then, circular ribonucleic acid 0001588 down-regulation also promoted reactive oxygen species production and oxidative stress (malonaldehyde), and reduced superoxide dismutase, glutathione, and glutathione peroxidase levels by suppressing of silent information regulator 1/nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2/heme oxygenase-1 in vitro.

Background: Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a major cause of cancer-related death globally. Endothelial PAS domain-containing protein 1 (EPAS1) is a homolog of the hypoxia-inducible factor 1α and has been reported to confer tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) resistance in NSCLC, but its role in peritoneal carcinomatosis of NSCLC is unknown.

Methods: PC14HM, a high metastatic potential subline of NSCLC cell line PC14, was derived.

Fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) play a pivotal role in Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) pathogenesis through aggressive migration and invasion. Madecassoside (Madec), a triterpenoid saponin present in Centella asiatica herbs, has a potent anti-inflammatory effect. In the present study, Madec exerted an obvious therapeutic effect in reversing the histological lesions in adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA) rats.

Background: The Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation (PFNA) system for treatment of intertrochanteric fractures is currently widely applied worldwide. However, even though the PFNA has produced good clinical outcomes, a poor introduction technique with an inappropriate entry point can cause surgical complications. Some researchers suggest improving clinical outcomes by modifying the entry point, but no research has focused on this issue.

Mutations in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) rendering it constitutively active is one of the major causes for metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and EGFR-targeted therapies utilizing tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are often used clinically as the first-line treatment. But approximately half of NSCLC patients develop resistance to these therapies, where the MET proto-oncogene is amplified by EGFR through the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α. Here we report that endothelial PAS domain-containing protein 1 (EPAS1), with 48% sequence identity to HIF-1α, specifically binds to TKI-resistant T790M EGFR, but not to wild-type EGFR, in NSCLC cell lines.
