PLoS One

October 2024

Department of Guangzhou Newborn Screening Center, Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Child Health, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Background And Aims: Newborn screening (NBS) for glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency by biochemical tests is being used worldwide, however, the outcomes arising from combined genetic and biochemical tests have not been evaluated. This research aimed to evaluate the outcomes of application of combined genetic and biochemical NBS for G6PD deficiency and to investigate the molecular epidemiological characteristics, variant spectrum, and genotype-phenotype correlation of G6PD deficiency in China.

Methods: A population-based cohort of 29,601 newborns were prospectively recruited from eight NBS centers in China between February 21 and December 30, 2021.

Endometriosis is a benign gynecological disorder characterized by the abnormal presence of endometrium-like cells, referred to as ectopic tissue, located outside the uterine cavity. Beyond the abnormal proliferation of endometrium-like tissues within and beyond the pelvic cavity, compelling scientific evidence underscores the crucial involvement of the NOD-like receptor NLRP3 inflammasome and pyroptosis in the pathogenesis of EMS. Our investigation has revealed a striking upregulation of the endogenous protein GATA-binding protein 6 (GATA6) in abdominal wall EMS.

Female urinary incontinence in China after 15 years' efforts: Results from large-scale nationwide surveys.

Sci Bull (Beijing)

October 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric & Gynecologic Diseases, State Key Laboratory of Common Mechanism Research for Major Diseases, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing 100730, China. Electronic address:

Urinary incontinence (UI) is a disease that quietly yet seriously impacts women's health and represents a global health burden that is often neglected. This study aims to systematically assess the prevalence and dynamics of female UI in China, and can inform further policies and have international implications. This study used three nationwide investigations: A national cross-sectional survey in 2021; another nationwide cross-sectional survey in 2006; and data regarding the institutions and physicians providing pelvic floor rehabilitation services from 2005 to 2019.

Effects of Pregnancy-Onset Asthma on Perinatal Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

J Allergy Clin Immunol Pract

September 2024

Center for Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing, China; National Clinical Research Center on Obstetrics and Gynecology Disease, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Background: It is unknown whether women with pregnancy-onset asthma are predisposed to worse pregnancy outcomes compared with women with pre-pregnancy asthma.

Objective: To explore whether pregnancy-onset asthma leads to worse perinatal outcomes compared with pre-pregnancy asthma.

Methods: Women who were discharged with a diagnosis of asthma and gave birth to a live singleton were included in this retrospective cohort analysis.

Newborn Screening for Inborn Errors of Metabolism by Next-Generation Sequencing Combined with Tandem Mass Spectrometry.

Int J Neonatal Screen

March 2024

Department of Guangzhou Newborn Screening Center, Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Child Health, Guangzhou 510180, China.

The aim of this study was to observe the outcomes of newborn screening (NBS) in a certain population by using next-generation sequencing (NGS) as a first-tier screening test combined with tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). We performed a multicenter study of 29,601 newborns from eight screening centers with NBS via NGS combined with MS/MS. A custom-designed panel targeting the coding region of the 142 genes of 128 inborn errors of metabolism (IEMs) was applied as a first-tier screening test, and expanded NBS using MS/MS was executed simultaneously.

Genomic Sequencing as a First-Tier Screening Test and Outcomes of Newborn Screening.

JAMA Netw Open

September 2023

Department of Pediatric Endocrinology and Genetic Metabolism, Shanghai Institute for Pediatric Research & Center for Clinical Innovation and Research, Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Importance: Newborn screening via biochemical tests is in use worldwide. The availability of genetic sequencing has allowed rapid screening for a substantial number of monogenic disorders. However, the outcomes of this strategy have not been evaluated in a general newborn population.

Comprehensive investigating of mismatch repair genes (MMR) polymorphisms in participants with chronic hepatitis B virus infection.

Front Genet

February 2023

Department of Social Medicine and HealthCare Management, School of Public Health, Hebei Medical University, Hebei Key Laboratory of Environment and Human Health, Shijiazhuang, China.

In this study, we focused on the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphisms in MMR genes and the occurrence and development of HBV infection. A total of 3,128 participants were divided into five groups: negative control group (NeC), spontaneous clearance group (SC), chronic hepatitis B group (CHB), liver cirrhosis group (LC) and hepatocellular carcinoma group (HCC), CHB, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma constitute HLD. We conducted three case-control studies: NeC (840 cases) vs.

The present study is aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of tenofovir (TDF) and telbivudine (TBV) in interrupting hepatitis B virus (HBV) mother-to-child transmission (MTCT), and to provide evidence-based treatment options to clinicians and patients.Hepatitis B e-antigen (HBeAg)-positive pregnant women (644 in total) with high HBV DNA load (≥2 × 105 IU/mL) and who received TDF (n = 214) or TBV (n = 380) in the second or third trimester, or received no treatment (n = 50) were included in this retrospective analysis.HBV DNA levels in mothers at delivery were significantly lower than baseline in the 2 treatment groups.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the effectiveness of a universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS) program in China by comparing data from 2016 and 2017 across different regions.
  • Results showed improvements in initial screening coverage and rescreening rates in 2017, with a decrease in referral rates compared to 2016.
  • The majority of institutions employed a combination of otoacoustic emissions (OAE) and automated auditory brainstem response (AABR) tests for screenings, and over half had a digital information management system for UNHS.

An inorganic-organic co-functional monomer, methacrylic acid-vinyltriethoxysilan (MAA-VTES) was designed for the synthesis of molecularly imprinted microspheres (MIMs). By virtue of the aqueous suspension polymerization and dummy template (pazufloxacin), the obtained MAA-VTES based MIMs exhibited good recognition and selectivity to fluoroquinolones (FQs), and were successfully applied as selective sorbents of a miniaturized home-made solid phase extraction device for the determination of ofloxacin (OFL), lomefloxacin (LOM) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) in milk samples. Under the optimum conditions of the miniaturized molecularly imprinted solid phase extraction (mini-MISPE) coupled with liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detector (LC-UV), good linearities were obtained for three FQs in a range of 0.
