Nerve aberrations and vascular lesions in the distal lower limbs are the etiological factors for diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). This study aimed to understand the regulatory mechanism of angiogenesis in patients with DFU by examining lncRNA, as well as to explore effective targets for diagnosing and treating DFU. The serum levels of A1BG-AS1 and miR-214-3p and the predictive power of A1BG-AS1 for DFU were determined by quantitative PCR and ROC analysis.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (BMSCs-exo) against lower limb ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury-induced pyroptosis in skeletal muscle.

Methods: A mouse model of lower limb I/R injury was utilized to assess the impact of BMSCs-exo, particularly when loaded with microRNA-367-3p (miR-367-3p), on pyroptosis. Histological examination, wet weight/dry weight ratio measurements, and luciferase assays were employed to elucidate the mechanisms involved.

Sanhan Huashi granules (SHG) demonstrated therapeutic effects against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in observational studies. In order to compare the effectiveness and safety of SHG and nirmatrelvir-ritonavir in treating adults with mild-to-moderate COVID-19, we conducted a randomized, active-controlled, open-label, multi-center trial conducted between February and July in 2023. The patients were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to the SHG group and the nirmatrelvir-ritonavir group.

Inflammation and fibrosis often occur in the kidney after acute injury, resulting in chronic kidney disease and consequent renal failure. Recent studies have indicated that lymphangiogenesis can drive renal inflammation and fibrosis in injured kidneys. However, whether and how this pathogenesis affects the contralateral kidney remain largely unknown.

To assess the effectiveness of a 6-month Ba Duan Jin exercise program in improving the balance of community-dwelling older adults. A two arms, parallel-group, cluster randomized controlled trial was conducted in 1 028 community residents aged 60-80 years in 40 communities in 5 provinces of China. Participants in the intervention group (20 communities, 523 people) received Ba Duan Jin exercise 5 days/week, 1 hour/day for 6 months, and three times of falls prevention health education, and the control group (20 communities, 505 people) received falls prevention health education same as the intervention group.

This study aims to compare the chemical constituents in 24 batches of Artemisiae Argyi Folium samples collected from three different Dao-di producing areas(Anguo in Hebei, Nanyang in Henan, and Qichun in Hubei). An ultra-performance liquid chromatography(UPLC) method was established to determine the content of 13 nonvolatile components, and headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(HS-GC-MS) was employed for qualitative analysis and comparison of the volatile components. The content of phenolic acids in Artemisiae Argyi Folium was higher than that of flavonoids, and the content of nonvolatile components showed no significant differences among the samples from the three Dao-di producing areas.

Neurogenetics

October 2023

Department of Neurology, Hebei Children's Hospital, Hebei Children's Hospital Affiliated to Hebei Medical University, 133 Jianhua Nan Street, Shijiazhuang, 050031, Hebei, China.

The cyclin-dependent kinase like 5 (CDKL5) gene variation is X-linked dominant and is associated with type 2 developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE). Although numerous cases of CDKL5 have been reported, there is limited discussion regarding functional verification. We described two children with DEE caused by de novo variations of CDKL5 gene, analyzed their clinical manifestations, and performed genetic testing on their gene variation sites.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) holds the ability to modulate the connectivity within the stimulated network. However, whether and how the rTMS targeted over the primary motor cortex (M1) could affect the connectivity within the sensorimotor network (SMN) is not fully elucidated. Hence, in this study, we investigated the after-effects of rTMS over left M1 at different frequencies on connectivity within SMN.
