Newborn Genetic Screening Improves the Screening Efficiency for Congenital Hypothyroidism: A Prospective Multicenter Study in China.

Newborn congenital hypothyroidism (CH) screening has been widely used worldwide. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of applying biochemical and gene panel sequencing as screening tests for CH and to analyze the mutation spectrum of CH in China. Newborns were prospectively recruited from eight hospitals in China between February and December 2021.

Influence of inhaled nitric oxide on bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants with PPHN or HRF at birth: a propensity score matched study.

Background: Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) is a chronic lung disease affecting preterm infants, with limited prevention and treatment options. Inhaled Nitric Oxide (iNO) is sometimes used to treat Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN) and Hypoxemic Respiratory Failure (HRF), and its impact on BPD development remains debated.

Objective: To assess whether iNO-related factors are potential contributors to the development of BPD Grade Ⅱ-Ⅲ in very premature infants (VPI) diagnosed with PPHN or HRF at birth using Propensity Score Matching (PSM).

Association between anthropometric indices and hypertension: identifying optimal cutoff points for U.S. adults across different populations.

Objective: This study compares the relationships between five anthropometric indices, a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and hypertension, assessing their predictive capacities. The aim is to determine the specific numerical changes in hypertension incidence, systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) for each increase in standard deviation of these indices, and to identify the optimal predictive indicators for different populations, including the calculation of cutoff values.

Methods: This study used data from the NHANES datasets spanning 2007 to 2018.

Methods: Human oral squamous cell carcinoma Ca9-22 cells cultured in hypoxic conditions (1% O) were inoculated subcutaneously in 16 nude mice, which were divided into control group and PHPS1 group (8) for treatment with 10% DMSO and 10% PHPS1 respectively. Tumor growth in the mice was monitored till 14 days after the treatment, and the xenografts were examined pathologically using HE staining.

Elevated HIF-1α levels in maintenance hemodialysis patients: a potential link to increased cognitive impairment risk.

Introduction: In China, an increasing number of patients with end-stage renal disease are undergoing hemodialysis treatment. While this treatment yields relatively positive outcomes, the prevalence of cognitive impairment in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis ranges from 24 to 80%, which is significantly higher than the general population.

Method: In this retrospective study, a total of 120 patients with kidney disease undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) were enrolled.

Pharmacokinetic Interaction between Imatinib and Tacrolimus in Rats.

Objective: Tacrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor (CNI), is the first-line treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). Imatinib and tacrolimus are both substrates of the hepatic enzymes CYP3A4/5 and efflux transporter P-gp, so drug-drug interactions may occur during their co-administration treatment. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the pharmacokinetic interaction between imatinib and tacrolimus in rats.

Methods: The study encompassed 2,501 patients treated from January 2017 to December 2021, all of whom underwent GCS within one year after DES-PCI.

Efficacy and safety of adding immune checkpoint inhibitors to first-line standard therapy for recurrent or advanced cervical cancer: a meta-analysis of phase 3 clinical trials.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) combined with standard therapy (ST) have emerged as a novel treatment strategy for recurrent or advanced cervical cancer (r/a CC). However, the available data from phase 3 clinical trials have yielded mixed results. This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy and safety of adding ICIs to ST in the treatment of r/a CC.

Visibility of mpMRI region of interest on ultrasound during cognitive fusion targeted biopsy predicts prostate cancer detection: a prospective single-center study.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nature of ultrasound characteristics during mpMRI/TRUS cognitive fusion targeted biopsy (cTB).

Methods: From 2023 to 2024, data from 502 lesions in 426 men who underwent targeted combined systematic biopsy were analyzed. All lesions had a Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) score of ≥ 3.

Comparison of different localization needles and postures in localization of pulmonary nodules.

Background: With advancements in imaging testing and surgical procedures, an increasing number of nodules with smaller diameters and deeper locations have been deemed suitable for surgical intervention. The preoperative localization of these nodules has become essential. In this retrospective single-center study, we aimed to compare the effectiveness and patient comfort associated with the use of a four-hook needle versus a hook-wire needle for preoperative localization.

Optimal timing of anti-PD-1 antibody combined with chemotherapy administration in patients with NSCLC.

Background: Anti-programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) antibody combined with chemotherapy simultaneously is regarded as the standard treatment for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by current clinical guidelines. Different immune statuses induced by chemotherapy considerably affect the synergistic effects of the chemo-anti-PD-1 combination. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the optimal timing of combination treatment administration.

Effect of an Endoscopy Screening on Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Mortality: A Community-Based Multicenter Cluster Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background And Aims: Population-based observational studies suggest that endoscopic screening may reduce upper gastrointestinal cancer mortality. We aimed to quantify the effect of endoscopy screening.

Methods: This is a community-based, multicenter, cluster randomized clinical trial conducted in both high-risk and non-high-risk areas of China.

Idiopathic eosinophilia complicated with cryptococcal meningitis: a case report.

Idiopathic eosinophilia, characterized by unexplained peripheral blood eosinophilia after ruling out secondary causes, is an extremely rare condition. Cryptococcal meningitis is a life-threatening opportunistic infection that primarily affects immunocompromised individuals, such as those with advanced AIDS or leukemia. In this report, we present a unique case of idiopathic eosinophilia concurrent with cryptococcal meningitis, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the first such case described globally.

Preclinical study of TLR stimulation combined PD-1 antibody enhance the therapeutic effect of microwave ablation on NSCLC.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of the combination of microwave ablation (MWA) with immune checkpoints blockade and TLR9 stimulation in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using the C57BL/6 tumor-bearing mice model.

Materials And Methods: Tumor-bearing mice were treated with MWA, programmed cell death protein1 blockade (PD-1) plus MWA (MWA + P), TLR9 agonist CpG ODNs and MWA (MWA + C), PD-1 blockade and CpG ODNs (P + C), MWA plus PD-1 blockade and CpG ODNs (MWA + P + C), or untreated. Survival time was evaluated with the Kaplan-Meyer method comparing survival curves by log-rank test.

Background: Obesity, depressive symptoms, and periodontitis are major worldwide health concerns. Despite separate studies on both illnesses, no research has directly examined the link between depressive symptoms and periodontitis in obese people. Given the close correlation between obesity and chronic illnesses, as well as the possibility of a bidirectional impact between depressive symptoms and periodontitis, this study aims to investigate the link between depressive symptoms and periodontitis in an obese population.

Evaluation of gecacitinib vs hydroxyurea in patients with intermediate-2 or high-risk myelofibrosis: final analysis results from a randomized phase 3 study.

To compare the efficacy and safety of gecacitinib (also known as jaktinib) with hydroxyurea (HU) in treating myelofibrosis (MF) patients. In this multicenter, randomized phase 3 trial (ZGJAK016), intermediate- or high-risk primarily JAK inhibitor naïve MF patients were assigned in a 2:1 ratio to receive either gecacitinib (100 mg twice a day, BID) or HU (500 mg BID). The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients with ≥35% reduction in spleen volume (SVR35) from baseline at week 24.

A nomogram model for predicting advanced liver fibrosis in patients with hepatitis B: A multicenter study.

Background: Biopsy is the gold standard method for diagnosing liver fibrosis. FibroScan is a non-invasive method of diagnosing liver fibrosis, but it still faces some limitations. Observation on the therapeutic effect of probiotics on early oral feeding in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis.

Objectives: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of probiotics and early oral feeding in patients with severe acute pancreatitis.

Methods: A prospective, randomized, controlled trial was conducted involving 66 patients, who were randomly divided into a control group ( = 32) receiving standard enteral nutrition and an observation group ( = 34) receiving additional Bifidobacterium quadruplex live bacterial tablets. Serum inflammatory markers, including white blood cells (WBC), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-α), and C-reactive protein (CRP), were measured on days 1, 3, and 7 post-admission.
