Efficacy and safety of JMT103 in patients with bone metastases from solid tumors: A randomized Phase Ib clinical trial.

This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of three dosing regimens of JMT103 in patients with bone metastases from solid tumors. Eligible patients were randomly assigned to receive JMT103 subcutaneously, 120 mg every 4 weeks (Cohort 1), 120 mg every 8 weeks (Cohort 2), or 180 mg every 8 weeks (Cohort 3) for up to 49 weeks. The primary endpoint was change from baseline to Week 13 in creatinine-adjusted urinary N-telopeptide (uNTx/Cr).

Neuroprotective Effects, Mechanisms of Action and Therapeutic Potential of the Kv7/KCNQ Channel Opener QO-83 in Ischemic Stroke.

Ischemic stroke is a worldwide disease with high mortality and morbidity. Kv7/KCNQ channels are key modulators of neuronal excitability and microglia function, and activation of Kv7/KCNQ channels has emerged as a potential therapeutic avenue for ischemic stroke. In the present study, we focused on a new Kv7/KCNQ channel opener QO-83 on the stroke outcomes and its therapeutic potential.

Genetic evidence for the causal effect of clonal hematopoiesis on pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a severe and progressive cardiovascular disease. While potential links between clonal hematopoiesis (CH) and cardiovascular diseases have been identified, the causal relationship between CH and PAH remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the causal effect of CH on the risk of PAH using a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach.

Diagnostic value of interferon-γ release assay in patients with COPD complicated with pulmonary tuberculosis.

Background: The common diagnostic methods for tuberculosis have been showing reduced sensitivity among chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients. This study was conducted to evaluate and analyse the diagnostic value of an interferon-γ release assay in COPD patients complicated with pulmonary tuberculosis.

Methods: A nested case-control study was conducted on 123 COPD patients hospitalized at the Fifth Hospital of Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, from January 2019 to June 2021.

Exosomes play a role in cell communication by transporting content between cells. Here, we tested whether renal podocyte-derived exosomes affect the injury of glomerular endothelial cells in lupus nephritis (LN). We found that exosomes containing high levels of high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) were released from podocytes in patients with LN, BALB/c mice injected with pristane (which induces lupus-like disease in mice), and cultured human renal glomerular endothelial cells (HRGECs) treated with LN plasma.

Metabolic changes of thalamus assessed by H-MRS spectroscopy in patients of cervical spondylotic myelopathy following decompression surgery.

Objective: To assess the changes of thalamic metabolites before and after surgery in patients with Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy (CSM) using Hydrogen Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (H-MRS) and to investigate its association with improvement in neurological function.

Methods: Forty-eight CSM patients who underwent cervical decompression surgery from December 2022 to June 2023 were included, and 33 healthy volunteers were recruited. All subjects underwent bilateral thalamic H-MRS scans before the surgical procedure, and subsequently again 6 months later.

First-line cadonilimab plus chemotherapy in HER2-negative advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma: a randomized, double-blind, phase 3 trial.

Programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibitors plus chemotherapy have been the standard of care in the first-line treatment of advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction (G/GEJ) adenocarcinoma; however, the survival benefits are modest in patients with low programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression. Here we investigated the efficacy and safety of cadonilimab (PD-1/cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) bispecific antibody) plus chemotherapy as first-line treatment in G/GEJ adenocarcinoma. The prespecified interim analysis is reported here.

Prevalence of malnutrition among adult inpatients in China: a nationwide cross-sectional study.

Malnutrition substantially contributes to adverse clinical outcomes. However, no national survey has been conducted to characterize its epidemiology in hospital settings in China. We conducted the China Nutrition Fundamental Data 2020 project among a multistage stratified cluster sample of adult inpatients from 291 study sites across 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities (except for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Province, and the Xizang Autonomous Region, please see MATERIALS AND METHODS for details of the causes) of China to generate reliable data on the prevalence of malnutrition and explore the associated risk factors.

Background: Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is an inflammatory breast condition with high recurrence risk, often complicating management. Existing imaging techniques provide limited predictive insight. This study aims to analyze the correlation between contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) features and the risk of GM recurrence, developing a predictive model.

Background: Polydatin (PD), also known as tiger cane glycoside, is a natural compound extracted from the Japanese knotweed plant, which is often referred to as white resveratrol. It exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-apoptotic effects in the treatment of various diseases. However, the potential molecular mechanisms of PD in osteoarthritis have not been clearly elucidated.

Impact of preoperative blood glucose levels on prognosis and postoperative complications in patients with pancreatic cancer.

The relationship between diabetes and pancreatic cancer is well documented; however, the effect of preoperative blood glucose levels on prognosis and postoperative complications is currently unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of preoperative blood glucose levels on overall survival (OS) and postoperative complications in patients with pancreatic cancer. This retrospective study included 225 patients with pancreatic cancer treated at The Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University from January 2015 to December 2020.

Higher triglyceride-glucose index and triglyceride glucose-body mass index protect against sarcopenia in Chinese middle-aged and older non-diabetic women: a cross-sectional study.

Purpose: Sarcopenia, an age-related complication, constitutes a major public health problem given the aging of the population. However, it is frequently overlooked and undertreated in mainstream practice. The study aimed to investigate the correlations between triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and TyG-body mass index (BMI) and sarcopenia in non-diabetic middle-aged and older women and whether they would be helpful indicators of sarcopenia.

A narrative review focusing on randomized clinical trials of vitamin D supplementation for COVID-19 disease.

Current evidence is inconsistent on whether vitamin D supplementation can prevent COVID-19 infection or improve its clinical outcomes. To better understand and look into the issue, we went through the background knowledge of COVID-19 and vitamin D, searched in Pubmed [by using key words in the title containing "randomized clinical trial", "COVID-19", and "vitamin D (25-hydroxyvitamin D, or cholecalciferol, or calcidiol, or calcifediol) supplementation"] for publications of studies on vitamin D/supplementation in COVID-19 patients, especially those about the randomized clinical trials (RCTs). After reviewing these papers, we did a short background review of vitamin D and the pathophysiology of COVID-19, summarized the key features of the 25 RCTs in text and tabulated in a table of some of the features, commented, compared and discussed the differences between RCTs (for example, change the serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration from nmol/L to ng/mL, making the comparison easier).

Effectiveness and Safety of Dupilumab for Prurigo Nodularis in China: A Multicentric and Observational Study.

Background: The efficacy and safety of dupilumab in patients with refractory prurigo nodularis (PN) is well established in clinical trials, but there is a lack of multicenter data regarding its effectiveness and safety in real-world settings.

Methods: Patients with moderate-to-severe PN who initiated dupilumab treatment between July 2023 and January 2024, with a follow-up period of at least 16 weeks at 10 hospitals in China were included. We used peak pruritus numeric rating scale (PP-NRS), investigator global assessment (IGA) for PN, and dermatology life quality index for adults or children (DLQI/CDLQI) to assess disease control status and quality of life impairment, and monitored adverse events to assess the safety.

Intraoperative ex-vivo epifluorescent diagnostics of stereotactic brain biopsies using EndoScell scanner: diagnostic accuracy study.

Brain biopsy is commonly employed for the histological diagnosis of complex intracranial diseases. To improve the positive diagnostic rate, the precision of intraoperative tissue sampling is critical. This study evaluated the accuracy of fluorescence imaging technology in rapidly distinguishing tumours from nontumour tissue during surgery, thus providing real-time feedback to surgeons and optimizing the surgical workflow.

Revolutionizing ESCC prognosis: the efficiency of tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TIIC) signature score.

Background: Patients suffer from esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), which is the ninth highly aggressive malignancy. Tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TIIC) exert as major component of the tumor microenvironment (TME), showing possible prognostic value in ESCC.

Methods: Transcriptome data and scRNA-seq data of ESCC samples were extracted from the GEO and TCGA databases.

Retrospective analysis of disease characteristics and treatment patterns among patients with esophageal cancer across 14 surgically represented centers.

Objective: Esophageal cancer (EC) ranks eighth among cancers in cancer-related deaths globally, and ~44% of new cases occur in China. We sought to describe the clinical characteristics and treatment landscape of EC in China before the approval of immunotherapy in 2020.

Methods: CHANNEL was a large, retrospective study using patient-level data from 14 hospitals/cancer centers across China, including adults initiating therapy for newly diagnosed EC (January to December 2018).

Prognostic roles of hematological indicators in programmed cell death protein 1/programmed cell death ligand 1 inhibitors for small-cell lung cancer: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: Lung cancer is the main cause of cancer death in the world, with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) accounting for about 10-15% of all lung cancers. Although programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitors represent a major breakthrough in SCLC treatment, only a minority of patients will benefit and there is still a lack of accurate biomarkers to guide clinical application. Inflammation plays a crucial role in tumorigenesis, tumor development, metastasis, and drug resistance, but there is limited research on the predictive value of these inflammatory indicators in SCLC.

Associations Between Complement C4, Habitual Constipation, and Sleep Disturbance in Oldest-Old and Centenarian Chinese Adults.

Background: Sleep disturbance is an immune-related disease, and the gut-brain axis is an important regulatory pathway. This cross-sectional study was designed to address these associations between complement C4, habitual constipation, and sleep disturbance and presents a reference for prevention and treatment of sleep disturbance.

Methods: Based on the China Hainan Centenarian Cohort Study, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to evaluate sleep disturbance following standard procedure.

Traditional pediatric massage enhanced the skeletal muscle mass in OVA-exposed adolescent rats via regulating SCFAs-FFAR2-IGF-1/AKT pathway.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the potential relation between the retarded growth of skeletal muscle (SM) and dysbiosis of gut microbiota (GM) in children with asthma, and to explore the potential action mechanisms of traditional pediatric massage (TPM) from the perspective of regulating GM and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) production by using an adolescent rat model of asthma.

Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats aged 3weeks were divided randomly into the 5 groups (n=6~7) of control, ovalbumin (OVA), OVA + TPM, OVA + methylprednisolone sodium succinate (MP) and OVA + SCFAs. Pulmonary function (PF) was detected by whole body plethysmograph, including enhanced pause and minute ventilation.

Long-term survival after combination therapy with atezolizumab in a patient with small-cell lung cancer: a case report.

Background: Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is highly malignant. Despite being highly sensitive to initial chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the recurrence rate is high. Atezolizumab is the first immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) that has been proven to provide an overall survival (OS) benefit for extensive-stage SCLC (ES-SCLC), making ICIs in combination with chemotherapy the standard first-line treatment for ES-SCLC.

Background: Long COVID patients are prone to bronchial hyperresponsiveness and respiratory symptoms like coughing and breathing difficulties, often with positive bronchial provocation test (BPT) results.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the diagnostic value of various lung function tests in patients with long-term COVID-19, explicitly focusing on positive BPT outcomes.

Methods: Our study analyzed the BPT outcomes and various pulmonary function parameters of all 9,406 COVID-19 patients who met the inclusion criteria and visited our hospital between February 24, 2022, and April 28, 2024.

This study delves into the impact of precise health management coupled with physical rehabilitation on bone biomarkers in elderly patients with osteoporosis. Two hundred and forty individuals diagnosed with senile osteoporosis were randomly assigned to either the observation group (precision health management group, n = 120) or the control group (routine health management group, n = 120). Patients in the control group received standard health care, while those in the observation group received personalized health care along with physical therapy.
