In contemporary evacuation systems, the evacuation sign typically points fixedly towards the nearest emergency exit, providing guidance to evacuees. However, this static approach may not effectively respond to the dynamic nature of a rapidly evolving fire situation, in particular if the closest emergency exit is compromised by fire. This paper introduces an intelligent evacuation sign control mechanism that leverages smoke and temperature sensors to dynamically adjust the direction of evacuation signs, ensuring evacuees are guided to the quickest and safest emergency exit.

Background: Examining patients with first-episode psychosis (FEP) provides opportunities to better understand the mechanism underlying these illnesses. By incorporating quantitative measures in FEP patients, we aimed to (1) determine the baseline distribution of clinical features; (2) examine the impairment magnitude of the quantitative measures by comparing with external controls and then the counterparts of schizophrenia patients of different familial loadings; and (3) evaluate whether these quantitative measures were associated with the baseline clinical features.
Methods: Patients with FEP were recruited from one medical center, two regional psychiatric centers, and two private clinics in northern Taiwan with clinical features rated using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) and Personal and Social Performance (PSP) scale.

Based on the longitudinal data of 30 Major League Baseball (MLB) teams over seasons from 2017 to 2020, we used random effect (RE) models to conduct regression analyses on the detailed data of pitchers and fielders. Cultural distance (CD) was measured in terms of Hofstede's cultural indicators and Global Preference Survey (GPS) data. The results showed that salary premiums for foreign MLB players existed and CD was significantly positively correlated with salaries.

In this paper, interpersonal conflict is redefined to highlight the conflict dimension, which is ignored in traditional definitions of this term. In this new definition, the "no conflict" situation refers to unnoticed differences, disagreements, or dissatisfaction that are accommodated or negotiated prior to being noticed. An essential element of conflict management is identifying the ideal time to express and respond to questions/complaints/disagreement.

Caffeinated energy drinks are commonly taken to improve exercise performance, but there are few studies on the influence of different doses on an athlete's performance. We conducted a double-blind, randomized, counter-balanced, and crossover research study to examine the effects of low caffeinated energy drink (Low ED) or high caffeinated energy drink (High ED) supplement on the performance, haematological response, and oxidative stress in triathletes. Twelve male participants underwent three testing sessions separated by weekly intervals, consisting of sprint triathlon training (0.

In this paper, we present a new AI (Artificial Intelligence) edge platform, called "MiniDeep", which provides a standalone deep learning platform based on the cloud-edge architecture. This AI-Edge platform provides developers with a whole deep learning development environment to set up their deep learning life cycle processes, such as model training, model evaluation, model deployment, model inference, ground truth collecting, data pre-processing, and training data management. To the best of our knowledge, such a whole deep learning development environment has not been built before.

To provide insights for how to deal with pandemic mortality risk, this article introduces a mortality model that depicts the relevant pandemic effects on pricing mortality-linked securities, using a threshold jump approach. That is, to capture pandemic mortality dynamics across countries, we consider mortality jumps related to the pandemic shock and to a specific country shock. Pandemic jump occurs only when a pandemic event causes significant deaths worldwide, such as 1918 Spanish flu or COVID-19.

Through an in-depth study and analysis of the integration of media literacy with distance education management using the DNN algorithm in the context of participatory culture, and the design of a distance education management system for application in actual teaching, the word embedding model is used to embed the ratings and tags, respectively; then, the self-encoder is used to extract textual features for item tags, while DNN is used to extract features for user tagging behaviors; finally, the fully connected neural network is used to predict ratings for the fused user and item features. The experimental results show that the optimized recommendation model effectively reduces the user rating prediction error while alleviating the cold start problem. A blockchain-based learning platform is designed.
