Introduction: Although evidence supports efficacy of treatments that enhance self-management of chronic pain, the efficacy of these treatments has been hypothesized to be influenced by patient readiness for self-management. The Pain Stage of Change Questionnaire (PSOCQ) is a reliable and valid measure of patient readiness to self-manage pain. However, there is not yet a Japanese version of the PSOCQ (PSOCQ-J), which limits our ability to evaluate the role of readiness for pain self-management in function and treatment response in Japanese patients with chronic pain.

Objectives: The Multidimensional Pain Readiness to Change Questionnaire 2 (MPRCQ2) is a reliable and valid measure that assesses readiness to adopt a variety of discrete pain self-management responses. We sought to translate and evaluate psychometric properties of the Japanese version of the MPRCQ2 (MPRCQ2-J) in individuals with chronic pain.
Methods: One hundred seventy-three individuals with chronic pain were asked to complete the MPRCQ2-J, as well as measures assessing pain intensity, pain interference, self-efficacy, and general readiness to adopt a self-management approach for pain.

Purpose: To evaluate whether susceptibility-weighted MR imaging (SWI) findings are associated with tumor infarction on contrast-enhanced MRI (CE-MRI) after uterine artery embolization (UAE) for leiomyoma.
Methods: This was a single institution, retrospective study. Between February 2016 and April 2017, 27 consecutive patients underwent UAE and completed SWI and CE-MRI before and 1 week after UAE.

Background: To examine whether gastric carcinoma (GC) with chromosomal instability (CIN-type GC), the largest category in the Cancer Genome Atlas classification, consists of a single genetic lineage, we conducted a multisampling analysis of genomic DNA copy-number profile.
Methods: We performed array-based comparative genomic hybridization using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues from 54 gland-forming GCs containing a total of 106 DNA samples from mucosal, extramucosal invasive, and lymph node lesions. Microarray data were analyzed by unsupervised hierarchical clustering and penetrance plots.

Background/aims: There are few prospective studies on cold forceps polypectomy (CFP) using jumbo cup forceps. Therefore, we examined patients with diminutive polyps (5 mm or smaller) treated with CFP using jumbo cup forceps to achieve an adenoma-free colon and also assessed the safety of the procedure and the recurrence rate of missed or residual polyp after CFP by performing follow-up colonoscopy 1 year later.
Methods: We included patients with up to 5 adenomas removed at initial colonoscopy and analyzed data from a total of 361 patients with 573 adenomas.

Purpose: To assess whether pre-procedural MRI findings predict the volume of tris-acryl gelatin microspheres (TAGM) used in uterine artery embolization (UAE) for leiomyomas.
Material And Methods: This was a retrospective, single-institution study. Between June 2014 and December 2017, 73 patients with leiomyomas underwent UAE with TAGM alone.

Computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD/CAM) is now being evaluated as a preparative technique for maxillofacial surgery. Because this technique is expensive and available in only limited areas of the world, we developed a novel CAD/CAM surgical guide using an in-house approach. By using the CAD software, the maxillary resection area and cutting planes and the fibular cutting planes and angles are determined.

We report an unusual case of mercury vapor poisoning from using a heated tobacco product. The suspect had added grains of mercury into 20 cigarettes in a pack. When a 36-year-old Japanese man inserted one of these cigarettes into the battery powered holder, it was heated to a temperature of 350 °C, and he inhaled vaporized mercury.

In some patients with spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH), initial imaging investigations may not be able to detect a bleeding source;repeat imaging may be necessary to reveal these lesions. We reviewed a consecutive series of 45 patients with SAH and negative initial digital subtraction angiograms(DSA)during a 15-year period. The aims were to document the frequency and reason for the negative initial investigations, to determine the appropriate modality and timing of repeat examinations, and to investigate the identified bleeding sources.

Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute systemic vasculitis that primarily affects the coronary artery, but it does not commonly affect the carotid artery. Cerebral infarction (CI) with internal carotid artery stenosis (ICS) in patients with KD has not been reported until now. We report a patient with CI as a remote-phase complication of KD.

Background: Accidental hypothermia (AH) has higher incidence and mortality in geriatric populations. Japan has a rapidly ageing population, and little is known about the epidemiology of hypothermia in this country.
Methods: We created an AH registry based on retrospective review of patients visiting the ED of 12 institutions with temperature ≤35°C between April 2011 and March 2016.

Background: The headache preceding an intracranial aneurysm rupture is called a sentinel headache (SH), and it is characterized by a sudden, intense, and persistent headache. As subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) often develops within several weeks of SH, its rapid diagnosis and treatment can improve the prognosis.

Cystoscopy using white light is a standard procedure for diagnosing bladder cancer; however, white light can result in missed lesions that are present, but not visible, such as in cases of carcinoma (CIS). In this case report, we describe observing the nuclei of urothelial carcinoma cells that were not visible with cystoscopy under white light using probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) with acrinol and fluorescein during transurethral resection of a bladder tumor (TURBT). A 59-year-old male with a medical history of neurogenic bladder dysfunction with multiple bladder diverticula was referred to the urology department for gross hematuria.

Background Although MYCN (aka N-myc) amplification is reported in ∼20% of neuroblastomas, MYC (aka C-myc) amplification appears to be a rare event in this disease. As of today, only 2 MYC-amplified neuroblastomas have been briefly mentioned in the literature. Methods We studied here the clinicopathological features of 3 MYC-amplified neuroblastomas.
