Citronellol (CT) is a naturally occurring lipophilic monoterpenoid which has shown anticancer effects in numerous cancerous cell lines. This study was, therefore, designed to examine CT's potential as an anticancer agent against glioblastoma (GBM). Network pharmacology analysis was employed to identify potential anticancer targets of CT.

An increase in cocaine abuse has been observed globally since the past decade. Cocaine is among the commonly abused stimulants used for recreational purposes. In this study, the SPE-UHPLC-MS/MS method was developed and validated to be applied on real specimens of 20 chronic cocaine abusers to quantify cocaine/metabolites in conventional as well as alternative biological matrices.

Article Synopsis
  • This case report discusses a rare situation where a 9-year-old boy with 1p36 deletion syndrome had a late-onset congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), which is usually detected in newborns.
  • The boy initially showed symptoms like respiratory distress, abdominal pain, and vomiting, leading doctors to mistakenly diagnose him with tension pneumothorax before a CT scan revealed the true cause.
  • The case emphasizes the need for awareness of late-presenting CDH in pediatric patients, as timely diagnosis and surgical treatment can significantly improve outcomes.

Background: The outcomes of dual graft living donor liver transplantation (DGLDLT) in high acuity patients remain underreported. The objective of this study was to report long-term outcomes from a single center in this select group of patients.

Methods: This was a retrospective review of patients who underwent DGLDLT between 2012 and 2017 (n = 10).

Vancomycin (VAN) is an effective antibiotic due to its broad-spectrum bactericidal action. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), a powerful analytical technique is used for the in vitro/ in vivo quantification of VAN. The current study was aimed to detect the VAN from in vitro as well as the plasma after the extraction from blood of rabbits.

Background And Aims: The speed of inhalational induction depends on a variety of factors, of which priming the breathing circuit with volatile anaesthetics plays a vital role. This study compared ventilator-assisted priming (VAP) and a passive priming technique using different fresh gas flows (FGFs) in neonatal, paediatric, and adult anaesthetic circuits.

Methods: In both techniques, FGF with 100% oxygen and 8% sevoflurane vaporiser concentration were set at 2 Lmin, 4 Lmin, and 8 Lmin, representing three groups FGF-2, FGF-4, and FGF-8, respectively.

Center of Excellence in Genomic Medicine Research, Department of Medical Laboratory Technology Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Background: Coronavirus (CoV) disease (COVID-19) identified in Wuhan, China, in 2019, is mainly characterized by atypical pneumonia and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and is caused by SARS CoV-2, which belongs to the Coronaviridae family. Determining the underlying disease mechanisms is central to the identification and development of COVID-19-specific drugs for effective treatment and prevention of human-to-human transmission, disease complications, and deaths.

Methods: Here, next-generation RNA sequencing (RNA Seq) data were obtained using Illumina Next Seq 500 from SARS CoV-infected A549 cells and mock-treated A549 cells from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) (GSE147507), and quality control (QC) was assessed before RNA Seq analysis using CLC Genomics Workbench 20.

Pakistan ranks fifth in the globally estimated burden of tuberculosis (TB) case incidence. Annually, a gap of 241,688 patients with TB exists between estimated TB incidence and actual TB case notification in Pakistan. These undetected/missed TB cases initiate TB care from providers in the private healthcare system who are less motivated to notify patients to the national database that leads to significant underdetection of actual TB cases in the Pakistani community.

Background: The indications for liver transplantation (LT) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) continue to evolve. The aim of this study was to report outcomes in patients who underwent living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) for HCC outside traditional criteria including macrovascular invasion (MVI).

Methods: We reviewed outcomes in patients who met the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) criteria (n = 159) and our center-specific criteria (UCSF+) (largest tumor diameter ≤ 10 cm, any tumor number, AFP ≤ 1000 ng/ml) (n = 58).
