  • Advancements in medical facilities have improved global life expectancy, highlighting the need to tackle age-related issues like sarcopenia, which is characterized by muscle loss, particularly prevalent among older adults in Asia but under-researched in Pakistan.
  • A cross-sectional study involving 142 older adults (60+ years) in Pakistan used DEXA scans to assess prevalence and risk factors for sarcopenia over six months, collecting various health and body composition data.
  • The study found that 47.18% of participants had sarcopenia, with higher prevalence in males (60%) versus females (36.36%), and identified significant risk factors including age, lower BMI, and body fat percentage, underscoring the need for

Article Synopsis
  • * A modeling analysis reveals that enhancing infection prevention and control in LMIC healthcare settings could save over 337,000 lives annually from AMR, while universal access to clean water and sanitation could prevent around 247,800 deaths, and vaccinating children could save about 181,500 lives.
  • * The findings indicate that implementing these existing interventions could potentially reduce AMR-associated mortality in LMICs by about 10% by 2030, emphasizing the importance of targeted public health investments.

Advanced Drug Delivery and Regenerative Biomaterials Laboratory, Cardiovascular Institute and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, United States.

The drug discovery and development (DDD) process greatly relies on the data available in various forms to generate hypotheses for novel drug design. The complex and heterogeneous nature of biological data makes it difficult to utilize or gather meaningful information as such. Computational biology techniques have provided us with opportunities to better understand biological systems through refining and organizing large amounts of data into actionable and systematic purviews.

Shifa College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, Islamabad, Pakistan. Electronic address:

Drug repurposing has emerged as a promising approach in the drug discovery and development process as it offers safe and effective therapeutic options in a time effective manner. Though the issues related to pre-clinical and clinical aspects of drug development process are greatly addressed during drug repurposing yet regulatory perspectives gain even more However, like traditional drug development the repurposed drugs face multiple challenges. Such challenges range from the patenting rights, novelty of repurposing, data and market exclusivity to affordability and equitable access to the patient population.

Master's in Health Professions Education, Shifa School of Health Professions Education, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, Islamabad, Pakistan.

Evaluating educational climate (EC) is imperative for ensuring postgraduate trainees' competencies and quality in residency training programs. This study assessed the EC experiences of pathology postgraduate residents (PGRs) during their postgraduate training in pathology residency programs-a cross-sectional study design assigned EC scores in the pathology residency program at a prestigious institution in Islamabad, which were measured using the Dutch Residency Educational Climate Test (D-RECT) questionnaire. Scores from the D-RECT were employed to conduct descriptive statistics and comparison of means across groups to evaluate EC scores by years of training and compared to assess where the differences were located.

Our current study reports the successful synthesis of thiolated chitosan-based nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery of 5-Fluorouracil. This process was achieved through the ionic gelation technique, aiming to improve the efficacy of the chemotherapeutic moiety by modifying the surface of the nanoparticles (NPs) with a ligand. We coated these NPs with hyaluronic acid (HA) to actively target the CD44 receptor, which is frequently overexpressed in various solid malignancies, including breast cancer.

Background: Homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (HoFH) is a rare genetic disease characterised by extremely high plasma LDL cholesterol from birth, causing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease at a young age. Lipoprotein apheresis in combination with lipid-lowering drugs effectively reduce LDL cholesterol, but long-term health outcomes of such treatment are unknown. We aimed to investigate the long-term cardiovascular outcomes associated with lipoprotein apheresis initiated in childhood or adolescence.
