Objective: Researchers have examined several dental characteristics to identify differences in tooth morphology between males and females in various populations. Nevertheless, no research has been undertaken to ascertain sexual dimorphism and develop a sex prediction model by using the groove pattern, cusp number and occlusal pattern in any population group. Therefore, this study accessed the sexual differences and the ability to predict sex according to these characteristics of maxillary teeth in the Pakistani community.

Trends in cerebrovascular disease-related mortality among older adults in the United States from 1999 to 2020: An analysis of gender, race/ethnicity, and geographical disparities.

Background: One of the most prevalent causes of morbidity and death is cerebrovascular disease in the US. The manifestations and pathophysiology of cerebrovascular disease are significantly impacted by ageing and determine the quality of one's late life. However, contemporary mortality trends in cerebrovascular disease and comparison to older adults of different gender, race, and geographic disparities have not been fully examined.

Background: Heart Failure (HF) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) often coexist, and each condition independently increases the likelihood of developing the other. While there has been concern regarding the increasing burden of disease for both conditions individually over the last decade, a comprehensive examination of mortality trends and demographic and regional disparities needs to be thoroughly explored in the United States (US).

Methods: This study analyzed death certificates from the CDC WONDER database, focusing on mortality caused by the co-occurrence of HF and DM in adults aged 75 and older from 1999 to 2020.

Background And Objectives: Urinary tract infections (UTIs), one of the most prevalent bacterial infections, are facing limited treatment options due to escalating concern of antibiotic resistance. Urine cultures significantly help in identification of etiological agents responsible for these infections. Assessment of antibiotic susceptibility patterns of these bacteria aids in tackling the emerging concern of antibiotic resistance and establishment of empirical therapy guidelines.

Assessment of the Impact of Comorbidities on Outcomes in Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI) Patients: A Narrative Review.

Non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, occurring when the heart's need for oxygen cannot be met. It is defined by elevated cardiac biomarkers without ST-segment elevation and often carries a poorer prognosis than most ST-segment elevation events. NSTEMI usually results from severe coronary artery narrowing, transient occlusion, or microembolization of thrombus/atheromatous material.

Ticagrelor monotherapy after short duration of dual antiplatelet therapy compared to continued dual antiplatelet therapy in patients with acute coronary syndromes undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions: an updated meta-analysis.

Background: The optimum duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) remains controversial. Ticagrelor monotherapy after short duration of DAPT (1-3 months) is a subject of research. We conducted an updated systematic review and meta-analysis comparing the ticagrelor monotherapy with continued DAPT after short duration of DAPT in patients with ACS undergoing PCI.

IgG4-Related Retroperitoneal Fibrosis in a Patient With B-Cell Lymphoproliferative Disorder.

We report an interesting case of a 25-year-old male patient who presented with a complaint of pain in the abdomen for six months, which was not associated with any other symptom, the patient was diagnosed with IgG4-related retroperitoneal fibrosis (RF) via endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided biopsy. He was prescribed steroids and proton pump inhibitors. Due to the limited presentation and rarity of RF, diagnosis of this disease requires extensive diligence and care.

DGAT1 Mutation Associated With Congenital Diarrhea in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report.

Chronic diarrhea in infants can stem from various etiologies, including congenital disorders affecting intestinal function. Here, we present a case of a one-year-old boy with persistent watery diarrhea, vomiting, and failure to thrive, ultimately diagnosed with DGAT1 deficiency through genetic testing. Despite initial investigations ruling out common causes like celiac disease, genetic analysis confirmed DGAT1 enteropathy.

With a focus on Multan, Pakistan, the study seeks to assess the proportion of underweight and overweight students while identifying the risk factors and sociodemographic characteristics associated with this incidence.

Background: Jigsaw method is a structured cooperative-learning technique that lays the groundwork towards achieving collective competence, which forms the core of effective clinical practice. It promotes deep learning and effectively enhances team-work among students, hence creating a more inclusive environment.

Objective: Present study was designed to introduce jigsaw model of cooperative learning to early-year undergraduate medical students, measure its effectiveness on their academic performance, and evaluate the perspectives of both students and faculty members regarding the same.

Inborn errors of metabolism: Historical perspectives to contemporary management.

There are many different genetic diseases called inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) which result from defective enzymes in the metabolic pathway. As a result, these defects either cause a harmful accumulation of substances or lead to a lack of certain types of molecule. The present review traces the origin and development of IEMs from Sir Archibald Garrod's theory in the early 20th century to current diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

A novel case report of benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis-associated USP53 genetic mutation in a Pakistani girl.

Benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis is an autosomal recessive disorder presenting with intermittent episodes of cholestatic jaundice. The initial episode of benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis tends to occur within the first two decades of a patient's life. Episodes can occur unprompted but can often be precipitated by infections or pregnancy.

Endovascular repair of bilateral common iliac artery aneurysms using intraoperative positioning system.

Intraoperative positioning system (IOPS; Centerline Biomedical, Inc) is a novel technology that allows for real-time intravascular navigation of endovascular devices using an electromagnetic field. In this report, we describe the use of IOPS for effective treatment of bilateral common iliac artery aneurysms with endovascular aortoiliac repair using iliac branch endoprostheses. Our experience suggests that this technology has the potential to reduce radiation and contrast use in endovascular procedures, although its application is currently limited.

Are social determinants associated with depression among married women of reproductive age? A mixed methods study from urban slums of Islamabad, Pakistan.

Depression among married women of reproductive age is on the rise in Pakistan, owing to post-COVID-19 phase, super-inflation, increasing poverty, deteriorating law and order situation and perpetuating the uncertain political situation in the country. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with depression among married women of reproductive age in Pakistan, using a mixed methods approach. The quantitative phase utilized the Urdu version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) to assess depression among 340 married women.

An Idiopathic Sterile Thyroid Abscess in a Five-Year-Old Child.

We would like to share a case study of a five-year-old child who complained of a painful mass on the front of his neck, with a fever of 98°F. Sometimes thyroid abscesses may be overlooked due to their rarity and are lower down on our list of differential diagnoses. Neck ultrasonography confirmed our findings.

Fibrillary Glomerulonephritis Leading to End-Stage Renal Disease in the Absence of Active or Chronic Hepatitis C Infection: Current Insights.

Fibrillary glomerulonephritis (FGN) is a rare glomerular disease with various etiologies, including idiopathic cases and associations with autoimmune diseases, neoplasms, and viral infections, such as Hepatitis C. We present a case of a patient who developed acute kidney injury (AKI) with atypical clinical features. A subsequent renal biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of FGN, with distinct immunofluorescence staining for DNAJB9.
