Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze the N-methyladenosine (mA) modification patterns in long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) related to sporadic congenital cataract (CC) and age-related cataract (ARC).* -
  • Results showed a significantly higher number of mA peaks in lncRNAs from ARC patients compared to CC, with a total of 1305 hypermethylated lncRNAs identified in ARC versus CC, and differences noted between younger and older ARC patients.* -
  • The findings provide new insights into the potential mechanisms behind CC and ARC, highlighting the role of altered lncRNAs in cellular organization and DNA repair processes.*

High-throughput detection allied with machine learning for precise monitoring of significant serum metabolic changes in Helicobacter pylori infection.

Talanta

March 2024

Department of Chemistry, Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200433, China. Electronic address:

High-throughput detection of large-scale samples is the foundation for rapidly accessing massive metabolic data in precision medicine. Machine learning is a powerful tool for uncovering valuable information hidden within massive data. In this work, we achieved the extraction of a single fingerprinting of 1 μL serum within 5 s through a high-throughput detection platform based on functionalized nanoparticles.

Department of Ophthalmology, Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, 200025, China; Shanghai Key Laboratory of Orbital Diseases and Ocular Oncology, Shanghai, 200025, China; Institute of Translational Medicine, National Facility for Translational Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, 200240, China. Electronic address:

Cisplatin resistance is the main reason for uveal melanoma (UM) treatment failure. Thus, developing strategy that increasing cisplatin sensitivity is needed. In this study, we performed drug repositioning analysis with the Connectivity Map database using a panel of previously identified cisplatin sensitivity-associated genes and cisplatin resistance-associated genes as the signature and obtained the antiparasitic drug selamectin.

This study aimed to explore the effects of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1 (TIMP-1) on levocarnitine (LC)-mediated regulation of angiotensin II (AngII)-induced myocardial fibrosis (MF) and its underlying mechanisms. H9C2 cells were treated with AngII for 24 h to induce fibrosis. The cells were then treated with LC or transfected with TIMP-1-OE plasmid/si‑TIMP-1.

Artificial Intelligence Model for Antiinterference Cataract Automatic Diagnosis: A Diagnostic Accuracy Study.

Front Cell Dev Biol

July 2022

Health Management Institute, The Second Medical Center & National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases, Chinese PLA General Hospital, Beijing, China.

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness worldwide. In order to achieve large-scale cataract screening and remarkable performance, several studies have applied artificial intelligence (AI) to cataract detection based on fundus images. However, the fundus images they used are original from normal optical circumstances, which is less impractical due to the existence of poor-quality fundus images for inappropriate optical conditions in actual scenarios.

This study intends to evaluate the characteristics of coronary microcirculatory function in patients with myocardial infarction undergoing reperfusion and its predictive value in assessing cardiac function, myocardial activity, recovery of ventricular wall motion after infarction, and distant myocardial remodeling by cardiac magnetic resonance technique (CMRI). . The 293 cases of patients with myocardial infarction treated in our hospital from August 2017 to August 2021 were selected as the subjects of this retrospective study, 13 cases were shed due to transfer and moving, and the rest were divided into 140 cases each in the emergency and elective groups according to emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and elective PCI.

This study explored the usefulness of two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) in the early assessment of corpora cavernosa fibrosis (CCF). New Zealand male rabbits were randomly assigned to an experimental group or a control group. Recombinant human transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) was injected into the dorsal penis tissue of rabbits in the experimental group.

Aim: To analyze differences in ultra-widefield fluorescein angiography (UWFA) findings between dynamic and static images of eyes with diabetic retinopathy (DR).

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 28 eyes of 28 patients with DR undergoing UWFA. A series of UWFA images acquired from each patient were converted into a time-lapse video and used as a dynamic image.

Angiotensin II (AngII) is a central signaling molecule of the renin‑angiotensin system that serves a vital role in myocardial fibrosis (MF). The present study aimed to investigate the effects of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)3 on MF progression. To induce cellular fibrosis, H9C2 rat myocardial cells were treated with AngII for 24 h.

Elevated expression of Copine 1 (CPNE1) has been observed in multiple cancers; however, the underlying mechanisms by which it affects cancer cells are unclear. We aimed to study the effect of CPNE1 on the tumorigenesis and radioresistance of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the expression of CPNE1 in TNBC tissues and cell lines.
