A microcapillary manipulation system combined with fluorescence microspectroscopy enabled us to analyze mass transfer in a single particle. In this study, we revealed the Eu(III) distribution in a single diglycolamide-derivative extractant (TODGA)-impregnated polymer-coated silica particle. In alternate organic synthesis, biocatalysis using enzymes provides a more stereoselective and cost-effective approach. Synthesis of unnatural nucleosides by nucleoside base exchange reactions using nucleoside-metabolizing enzymes has previously shown that the 5-position recognition of pyrimidine bases on nucleoside substrates is loose and can be used to introduce functional molecules into pyrimidine nucleosides. Here we explored the incorporation of purine pseudo bases into nucleosides by the base exchange reaction of pyrimidine nucleoside phosphorylase (PyNP), demonstrating that an imidazole five-membered ring is an essential structure for the reaction.

This study aimed to clarify whether short-term neurofeedback training during the acute stroke phase led to prefrontal activity self-regulation, providing positive efficacy to working memory. A total of 30 patients with acute stroke performed functional near-infrared spectroscopy-based neurofeedback training for a day to increase their prefrontal activity. Charge-Sign Dependent Cosmic-Ray Modulation Observed with the Calorimetric Electron Telescope on the International Space Station.

We present the observation of a charge-sign dependent solar modulation of galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) with the Calorimetric Electron Telescope onboard the International Space Station over 6 yr, corresponding to the positive polarity of the solar magnetic field. The observed variation of proton count rate is consistent with the neutron monitor count rate, validating our methods for determining the proton count rate. It is observed by the Calorimetric Electron Telescope that both GCR electron and proton count rates at the same average rigidity vary in anticorrelation with the tilt angle of the heliospheric current sheet, while the amplitude of the variation is significantly larger in the electron count rate than in the proton count rate.

Amplified Chirality Transfer to Aromatic Molecules through Non-specific Inclusion by Amorphous, Hyperbranched Poly(fluorenevinylene) Derivatives.

Optically active, hyperbranched, poly(fluorene-2,4,7-triylethene-1,2-diyl) [poly(fluorenevinylene)] derivatives bearing a neomenthyl group and a pentyl group at the 9-position of the fluorene backbone at various ratios acted as a chirality donor (host polymers) efficiently included naphthalene, anthracene, pyrene, 9-phenylanthracene, and 9,10-diphenyanthracene as a chirality acceptor (guest molecules) in their interior space in film as well as in solution, with the guest molecules exhibiting intense circular dichroism through chirality transfer with chirality amplification. The efficiency of the chirality transfer was much higher with higher-molar-mass polymers than lower-molar-mass ones as well as with hyperbranched polymers compared to the analogous linear ones. The hyperbranched polymers include the small molecules in their complex structure without any specific interactions at various stoichiometries.

Effect of lonidamine derivatives on the inhibition of transformed cell area expansion.

Expansion of transformed cell area is regulated by the surrounding nontransformed cells. Lonidamine (LND) was recently found to regulate transformed cell area expansion through suppressing the cell motility of nontransformed cells; however, the structure-activity relationship between LND and this inhibitory activity has yet to be elucidated. We synthesized several LND derivatives and evaluated their inhibitory activity against the expansion of transformed cell area and found that the halogenation pattern on the benzene ring moiety, the carboxylic acid moiety, and the overall hydrophobicity of the molecule were correlated with inhibition activity.
