The Eu(III) distribution mechanism in single extractant-impregnated polymer-layered silica particle in a complex solution containing multiple lanthanide ions was investigated using fluorescence microspectroscopy, which was compared with the single-ion distribution system. The rate-determining step of the Eu(III) distribution was the reaction of Eu(III) with the two extractant molecules in the particle. The distribution mechanism and rate constants obtained in the multiple lanthanide ions-distribution system agreed with those of the single-ion distribution system.

Exploring Novel Vitamin K Derivatives with Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Activity.

From our compound library of vitamin K derivatives, we found that some compounds exhibited anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity in VeroE6/TMPRSS2 cells. The common structure of these compounds was menaquinone-2 (MK-2) with either the -methylphenyl or the 1-naphthyl group introduced at the end of the side chain. Therefore, new vitamin K derivatives having more potent anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity were explored by introducing various functional groups at the ω-position of the side chain.

Cilia are organelles involved in motility and sensory transduction, but how these two functions coexist has not been elucidated in depth. Here, the involvement of the ciliary transient receptor potential (TRP) channel TRP11 in mechanoresponses is studied in using a TRP11-knockout mutant. The mutant has defects in the conversion of the bending mode of the cilium from forward to reverse when tapped with a glass rod, the detachment of cilia when shear is applied, the increase in ciliary beat frequency upon application of mechanical agitation by vortex mixing, and the initiation of gliding while both cilia are attached in opposite directions to a glass surface.

In soleus, weight loss and a reduction in the average myofibre size with shifting to the smaller side of the peak were observed in the suspension-vehicle group, but A2 reduced these changes. Average myofibre size significantly increased in ground-A2 compared to ground-vehicle.
