Size dependent properties of Gd-free versus Gd-doped carbon dots for bioimaging application.

Sci Rep

November 2024

Light Matter Institute, UMR-5306, Claude Bernard University of Lyon/CNRS, Université de Lyon, 69622, Villeurbanne Cedex, France.

Gd- free carbon dots (CDs) were synthesized by one-step solvothermal method using urea, citric acid and 3-(trifluoromethyl)aniline as precursors. Additionally, Gd-doped CDs were prepared by incorporating gadolinium chloride (Gd ions) into the synthesis. Size selection of the purified CDs was achieved through filter membranes ranging from 3 kDa to 100 kDa.

The subject of grammatical gender and cognition has been continuously examined in psycholinguistics, wherein findings show essential support for gender congruency effects, suggesting that grammar lends matrices for speakers' mental representations. Based on these psycholinguistic data, this study offers an innovative vista of investigation that combines typological and cognitive linguistic approaches. Its purpose lies in determining whether grammatical gender patterns sanction cross-linguistic universality in conceptualising entities as male or female, and whether grammatical gender universalities have semantic motivation.

Synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles-polymer nanocomposites is an emerging strategy in nanotechnology to improve targeted delivery and reduce the toxicity of nanoparticles. In this study, we report biological effects of previously described hybrid nanocomposites containing dextran-graft-polyacrylamide/zinc oxide nanoparticles (D-PAA/ZnO NPs) prepared from zinc sulfate (D-PAA/ZnONPs(SO)) and zinc acetate (D-PAA/ZnONPs(-OAc)) focusing primarily on their antimicrobial activity. D-PAA/ZnONPs(SO) and D-PAA/ZnONPs(-OAc) nanosystems were tested in a complex way to assess their antioxidant activity (DPPH assay), antidiabetic potential (α-amylase inhibition), DNA cleavage activity, antimicrobial, and antibiofilm activity.

Article Synopsis
  • Exposure to the Russian-Ukrainian War led to severe mental health issues among residents from 11 countries, with Ukrainians experiencing the worst effects.
  • The study identified factors like previous mental disorders and perceived stress as common predictors of PTSD and CPTSD, while some unique factors, such as gender and relationship status, also played a role.
  • Findings emphasize the importance of mental health support for populations affected by ongoing conflict, especially given the uncertain threat of war in many areas.

In this work, the luminescence properties of AgInS colloid nanoparticles in solution and in films were investigated and compared. Decay time of fast and slow relaxation processes differ by about an order of magnitude. Both components are significantly reduced in films compared to the corresponding contributions in colloids that hint towards charge carrier transfer between AgInS particles enhanced in the films.

Post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS) is an emerging health problem in people recovering from COVID-19 infection within the past 3-6 months. The current study aimed to define the predictive factors of PCS development by assessing the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) levels in blood leukocytes, inflammatory markers and HbA1c in type 2 diabetes patients (T2D) with regard to clinical phenotype, gender, and biological age. In this case-control study, 65 T2D patients were selected.
