Background: Either deletion or co-deletion of chromosomal arms 1p or 19q is a characteristic and early genetic event in oligodendroglial tumors that is associated with a better prognosis and enhanced response to therapy. Information of 1p/19q status is now regarded as the standard of care when managing oligodendroglial tumors for therapeutic options in anticipation of the increased survival and progression-free survival times associated with it. Keeping this in view, we first time attempted to establish the FISH based detection of 1p/19q deletion in glioma tissue samples to evaluate its role and involvement in the disease.

Temporary transvenous pacing is generally considered a safe procedure and is commonly performed for various emergent indications. However, complications are quite common with minor complications being more frequent than major life-threatening events. Cardiac perforation is a serious complication associated with the procedure with possible life- threatening consequences.

The study aimed to compute the effective dose (E) and size-specific dose estimate (SSDE) of routine adult patients undergoing thorax and abdominal computed tomography (CT) imaging and to present their multivariate analysis. All adult thorax and abdominal CT examinations conducted from March 2022 to June 2022 were prospectively included in this study. The Water Equivalent Diameter () and SSDE of all the examinations were computed from CT dose index volume () and Dose length product (DLP) displayed on the dose report in the CT console.

Introduction Understanding the dynamics of anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) immunoglobulin G (IgG) spike antibody titers after natural infection is important for understanding immunological memory. This longitudinal study was conducted to assess the trend in serum SARS-CoV-2 IgG spike antibody titers in a cohort of recovered cases up to nine months after SARS infection. Materials and methods We examined the neutralizing antibody response (IgG spike) in serum samples from a cohort of 86 SARS-CoV-2 quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR)-confirmed infection, comprising cases having minor COVID-19 pneumonia and severity, which was determined by CT severity scores.

Objective: Pregnancy, a nutritionally demanding situation in terms of macro- and micronutrient supply owing to heightened maternal, placental, and fetal needs, significantly affects thiamine reserves. Thiamine deficiency during pregnancy and the postpartum period, presenting with varied manifestations and outcomes, is a relatively common condition in our population. The study aimed to understand the various manifestations and outcomes of acute thiamine deficiency in pregnant and postpartum women, emphasizing the significance of early recognition and thiamine therapy to prevent serious complications during pregnancy and after childbirth.

Norethisterone, a commonly used oral contraceptive, and treatment for various gynecological disorders such as menorrhagia, abnormal uterine bleeding, and breast cancer, has been associated with multiple liver injuries. These injuries can manifest as hepatitis or cholestatic types of injury, benign neoplasms, peliosis hepatis, sinusoidal obstruction syndrome, and enlargement of existing hemangiomas. This report presents three cases in which liver enzyme levels were elevated due to norethisterone intake.

Poverty is strongly associated with all-cause and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) mortality. Less is known about the contribution of poverty to spirometrically defined chronic airflow obstruction (CAO)-a key characteristic of COPD. Using cross-sectional data from an asset-based questionnaire to define poverty in 21 sites of the Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease study, we estimated the risk of CAO attributable to poverty.

Infections in critically-ill patients caused by extensively-drug-resistant (XDR)-Pseudomonas aeruginosa are challenging to manage due to paucity of effective treatment options. Cefepime/zidebactam, which is currently in global Phase 3 clinical development (Clinical Trials Identifier: NCT04979806, registered on July 28, 2021) is a novel mechanism of action based β-lactam/ β-lactam-enhancer combination with a promising activity against a broad-range of Gram-negative pathogens including XDR P. aeruginosa.

Sepsis and septic shock are major healthcare problems, affecting millions of people around the world each year. The speed and appropriateness of therapy administered in the initial hours of treatment are likely to influence the outcome. We conducted a study to validate the clinical assessment score named 'quick sequential organ failure assessment' (qSOFA) score for use in the early identification of sepsis patients in the emergency department.

There is near consensus that prophylactic lateral neck dissection has no role in the management of differentiated thyroid cancer, but the extent of lateral neck dissection in differentiated thyroid cancer remains controversial, especially whether level V should be addressed or not. There is lot of heterogeneity in reporting of the management of level V in papillary thyroid cancer. We at our Institute address the lateral neck positive papillary thyroid cancer with selective neck dissection involving levels II-IV, performing extended level IV dissection with inclusion of the triangular area delineated by the sternocleidomastoid muscle, the clavicle, and the perpendicular line drawn to the clavicle from the point where the horizontal line at the level of cricoid cuts the posterior border of sternocleidomastoid muscle.

A small animal model of NASH with progressive steatohepatitis -induced by fast food diet and alcohol in C57BL/6J mouse with high human pathophysiological proximity.

Food Chem Toxicol

August 2023

Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India; Pharmacology Division, CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Canal Road, Jammu Tawi, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Electronic address:

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and alcoholic steatohepatitis (ASH) both can progress to end-stage liver disease (ESLD). No relevant animal models are available for studying the toxic consequences of concurrent fast food diet and alcohol usage in fibrosing NASH. As a result, dependable and short-term in-vivo models capable of recapitulating human disease pathophysiology are required for deciphering mechanistic insights and preclinical drug discovery programs.

Article Synopsis
  • Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a syndrome where kidney function declines over days to weeks, often related to sepsis which worsens outcomes.
  • This study compared the causes and clinical profiles of patients with septic vs. non-septic AKI, involving 200 patients and gathering data on their conditions.
  • Results showed that non-septic causes (60%) outweighed septic causes (40%), with septic patients having higher levels of urea and creatinine, longer hospital stays, and greater mortality (27.5% vs. 4.1%), although sepsis did not impact renal function at discharge.

Article Synopsis
  • Metabolic syndrome (MS) is increasingly recognized in Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients, which may raise the risk for diabetes-related complications, prompting this study to assess its prevalence over time in individuals with T1DM.* -
  • Conducted in North India, the study involved 161 T1DM patients and found that 19.2% had MS at baseline; those with MS showed a higher likelihood of developing microvascular complications such as retinopathy, neuropathy, and nephropathy.* -
  • After 5 years of follow-up, the prevalence of MS decreased to 13%, highlighting the need for early detection and targeted interventions to mitigate associated health risks for patients with T1DM.*

Visceral artery pseudoaneurysms are potentially lethal lesions and tend to rupture in a high proportion of cases, thereby warranting an immediate and active intervention. We present our experience of splanchnic visceral artery pseudoaneurysms in a university hospital over a 5-year time interval with emphasis on etiology, clinical presentation, management (endovascular/surgical), and final outcome. This was a retrospective study in which we searched our image database for pseudoaneurysms of visceral arteries over a period of 5 years.
