Methods: Eighty-three children with bronchopneumonia were randomly divided into a test group (TG) and a control group (CG). The TG was comprised of 40 children treated with methylprednisolone combined with azithromycin, whereas the CG was comprised of 43 patients who received methylprednisolone monotherapy.

Method: In this prospective, randomized trial conducted in four Chinese sites, 350 patients with high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HPR, defined as platelet aggregation >65%) were randomized by the ratio of 1:3:3 to: group A, clopidogrel 75 mg/d for 1 year (n=50); group B, clopidogrel 150 mg/d for 30 days followed by 75 mg/d until 1 year (n=150); or group C, policosanol 40 mg/d for 6 month and clopidogrel 75 mg/d for 1 year (n=150).

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of perioperative psychological and music interventions in elderly patients undergoing elective surgery on anxiety, post-operative pain, and changes in heart rate variability (HRV) to ascertain if perioperative psychological and music interventions can affect overall anxiety levels.

Materials And Methods: Fourty elderly patients undergoing elective surgery were randomized to two groups; one group received psychological and music intervention, and the other was the control. The intervention group underwent psychological intervention and listening to music for 30 min before surgery.

An elevated plasma level of visfatin increases the risk of myocardial infarction.

Visfatin, an adipocytokine involved in metabolic and immune disorders, plays an important role in the etiology of cardiovascular disease. Recent evidence has shown that an elevated plasma level of visfatin may increase the risk of myocardial infarction (MI), but individual published studies have shown inconclusive results. This study aimed to obtain a more precise estimate of the association between the plasma visfatin level and MI risk through a detailed meta-analysis of studies published in peer-reviewed journals.

Change in the perioperative blood glucose and blood lactate levels of non-diabetic patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery.

In the present study, a retrospective analysis of the trends and factors affecting blood glucose and blood lactate levels was carried out for non-diabetic adult patients who had undergone coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Between October 2009 and October 2011, 200 non-diabetic adult patients undergoing CABG surgery were examined. Glucose and lactic acid levels were observed successively during surgery [following the induction of anesthesia, cardio-pulmonary bypass (CPB), aortic cross-clamping and aortic stop flow infusion], at the end of surgery and after surgery [1, 6, 12, 24 and 48 h after admission to the intensive care unit (ICU)].

Background Context: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious health issue that may result in high health care costs, with additional social and psychological burdens. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment has been found to be beneficial for neurological recovery; however, the underlying mechanisms are yet to be characterized.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanisms of HBO treatment in SCI by measuring the expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and Connexin43 (CX43) in the injured spinal cord tissue.

Data Retrieval: We performed a bibliometric analysis of data retrieval for neuroimaging diagnosis for cerebral infarction containing the key words "CT, magnetic resonance imaging, MRI, transcranial Doppler, transvaginal color Doppler, digital subtraction angiography, and cerebral infarction" using the Web of Science.
