Background: The heterogeneity within breast cancer and its microenvironment are associated with metastasis. Analyzing distinct tumor subregions using habitat analysis and characterizing the tumor microenvironment through radiomics may be valuable for predicting axillary lymph node metastasis (ALNM) in breast cancer. This study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram for predicting ALNM in breast cancer patients by integrating clinicopathological, intra- or peri-tumoral radiomic, and habitat signatures based on dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and determine the optimal peritumoral region size for accurate prediction.

Introduction: Necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) of the intestine of preterm infants leads to the risk of abdominal surgery, short bowel syndrome, neurodevelopmental disorders and death. Although the risks of NEC and its complications have been recognised in many countries, few countries have established NEC-specific registries to continuously monitor its aetiology and prognosis. In China, the understanding of risk factors and prognosis of NEC is incomplete, characterised by a lack of evidence from prospective and multicentre studies.

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Shenzhen Institute of Translational Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University, Shenzhen Second People's Hospital, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostics, Shenzhen, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the link between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and urinary phthalate metabolites, considering the rise of phthalate substitutes and variations in diagnostic approaches.
  • - Analyzing data from 641 participants in the NHANES 2017-2018 database, researchers used three methods to diagnose NAFLD and assessed the concentration of various phthalate metabolites in urine.
  • - Significant correlations were found between NAFLD and certain phthalate metabolites through logistic regression analysis, emphasizing the need for precise diagnostics in understanding NAFLD's development.

Neoadjuvant immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) has achieved significant success in treating various cancers, leading to improved therapeutic responses and survival rates among patients. However, in colorectal cancer (CRC), ICB has yielded poor results in tumors that are mismatch repair proficient, microsatellite-stable, or have low levels of microsatellite instability (MSI-L), which account for up to 95% of CRC cases. The underlying mechanisms behind the lack of immune response in MSI-negative CRC to immune checkpoint inhibitors remain an open conundrum.

Introduction: Preterm birth complications and neonatal asphyxia are the leading causes of neonatal mortality worldwide. Surviving preterm and asphyxiated newborns can develop neurological sequelae; therefore, timely and appropriate neonatal resuscitation is important to decrease neonatal mortality and disability rates. There are very few systematic studies on neonatal resuscitation in China, and its prognosis remains unclear.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that can actively participate in post-transcriptional regulation of genes. A number of studies have shown that miRNAs can serve as important regulators of cancer cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis. They can also act as markers for the diagnosis and prognosis of certain cancers.

Enhancing stem cell therapy efficacy with functional lignin modified cerium-iron nanozyme through magnetic resonance imaging tracking and apoptosis protection in inflammatory environment.

Int J Biol Macromol

School of Materials Science and Engineering, Key Laboratory for Polymeric Composite and Functional Materials of Ministry of Education, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510275, PR China. Electronic address:

Stem cell transplantation provides a promising approach for addressing inflammation and functional disorders. Nonetheless, the viability of these transplanted cells diminishes significantly within pathological environments, limiting their therapeutic potential. Moreover, the non-invasive tracking of these cells in vivo remains a considerable challenge, hampering the assessment of their therapeutic efficacy.

Survival and morbidity in very preterm infants in Shenzhen: a multi-center study.

Front Pediatr

February 2024

Department of Neonatology, Longgang District Maternity & Child Healthcare Hospital of Shenzhen City, Longgang Maternity and Child Institute of Shantou University Medical College, Shenzhen, China.

Objective: To analyze survival and morbidity among very preterm infants (VPIs) in Shenzhen and explore factors associated with survival without major morbidity.

Methods: Between January 2022 and December 2022, 797 infants were admitted to 25 neonatal intensive care units in Shenzhen with gestational age (GA) < 32 weeks, excluded discharged against medical advice, insufficient information, and congenital malformation, 742 VPIs were included. Comparison of maternal and neonate characteristics, morbidities, survival, and survival without major morbidities between groups used Mann Whitney test and test, multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze of risk factors of survival without major morbidities.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the major infectious diseases in the world with a high incidence rate. Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) is a key and difficult challenge in the prevention and treatment of TB. Early, rapid, and accurate diagnosis of DR-TB is essential for selecting appropriate and personalized treatment and is an important means of reducing disease transmission and mortality.

We constructed biomimetic nanoparticles with biocompatible, tumor-targeting, laser-responsive properties for ferroptosis-induced colorectal cancer chemo-photothermal therapy, with the aim to realize double-hit ferroptosis treatment for colorectal cancer. The nanoparticles were prepared by first loading the chemotherapy drug bufotalin (CS-5) with Prussian blue (PB), then combining a hybridized erythrocyte-tumor membrane (M) with PB@CS-5 to produce PB@CS-5@M. The chemo-photothermal therapy efficiency of PB@CS-5@M was tested by and experiments.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in women of childbearing age. The etiology of PCOS is multifactorial, and current treatments for PCOS are far from satisfactory. Recently, an imbalanced autonomic nervous system (ANS) with sympathetic hyperactivity and reduced parasympathetic nerve activity (vagal tone) has aroused increasing attention in the pathogenesis of PCOS.

This study integrated dynamic models and statistical methods to design a novel macroanalysis approach to judge the climate impacts. First, the incidence difference across Köppen-Geiger climate regions was used to determine the four risk areas. Then, the effective influence of climate factors was proved according to the non-climate factors' non-difference among the risk areas, multi-source non-major component data assisting the proof.

Induces Bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of the Femur in Mice.

Front Cell Infect Microbiol

July 2022

The State Key Laboratory Breeding Base of Basic Science of Stomatology [Hubei-Ministry of Science and Technology(MOST)] and Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedicine, Ministry of Education, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Wuhan University, Wuhan, China.

One of the most prominent characteristics of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw(BRONJ) is its site-specificity. Osteonecrosis tends to occur specifically in maxillofacial bones, in spite of a systemic administration of the medicine. Previous studies suggested rich blood supply and fast bone turnover might be reasons for BRONJ.

Angiostrongylus cantonensis (AC) is well-documented that parasitizes the host brain and causes eosinophilic meningitis. The migration route of AC in permissive hosts is well demonstrated, while in nonpermissive hosts, it remains to be fully defined. In the present study, we exploited live imaging technology, morphological and pathological configuration analysis, and molecular biological technologies to explore the migration route of AC and the accompanying tissue damage in nonpermissive and permissive hosts.
