Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) are widely detected in the aquatic environment due to their extensive use in a wide array of antibacterial products during the pandemic. In the current study, UV/monochloramine (UV/NHCl) was used to degrade three typical QACs, namely benzalkonium compounds (BACs), dialkyl dimethyl ammonium compounds (DADMACs), and alkyl trimethyl ammonium compounds (ATMACs). This process achieved high efficiency in removing BACs from water samples.

A resource-efficient and facile method of synthesizing 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) from biomass-derived platform chemical 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) was explored using cobalt and nitrogen-doped carbon catalysts (Co/N-C). A molten salts-assisted method proved to be effective in improving the surface area of the catalysts as well as uniformity and dispersibility of the Co species. Detailed investigation of different combinations of precursors revealed that the formation of Co-N species was imperative for high FDCA selectivity, and the nitrogen-doped carbon matrix enhanced the catalytic activity by providing good electron mobility.

rhabdovirus (MSRV) is a primary viral pathogen in largemouth bass aquaculture, which leads to tremendous economic losses yearly. Currently, there are no approved drugs for the treatment and control of this virus. Our previous studies screened the herb from many traditional Chinese medicines, and we isolated and identified magnolol as its main active compound against multiple rhabdoviruses, including MSRV.
