Ovarian endometrioma (OEM), a particularly severe form of endometriosis, is an oestrogen-dependent condition often associated with pain and infertility. The mechanisms by which OEM impairs fertility, particularly through its direct impact on oocyte-cumulus cell (CC) communication and related pathways, remain poorly understood. This study investigates the impact of OEM on oocyte-CC communication and explores melatonin's therapeutic potential.

Electronic address:

Tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) is a widely used synthetic phenolic antioxidant found in edible oils and other fried foods. Nevertheless, the excess use of TBHQ can reduce food quality and impact public health. In this paper, we reported the synthesis of a nanocomposite consisting of carbon and nitrogen co-doped nickel oxide (NiO-N/C-700), which was used to modify a pencil graphite electrode for the sensitive detection of TBHQ.

PM is an important environmental risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and poses a threat to global health. This study combines bibliometric analysis, Mendelian randomization (MR), and Global Burden of Disease (GBD) data to comprehensively explore the relationship between PM exposure and CVD. MR analyses provided strong evidence for causality, reinforcing findings from traditional observational studies.

Shanxi Key Laboratory of Biomedical Metal Materials, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Taiyuan University of Technology, Taiyuan, 030024, China.

The interaction between biomaterials and immune system is a critical area of research, especially in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. A fascinating and less explored aspect involves the immunomodulatory behaviors of macrophage (MΦ)-derived exosomes induced by biomaterial surfaces. Herein, untreated surface, nanostructured surface, and type I collagen (Col-I)-decorated nanostructured surface of titanium implants are chosen to culture MΦs, followed by extraction of MΦ-derived exosomes and investigation of their immunomodulatory functions and mechanisms.

Frequency-specific and state-dependent neural responses to brain stimulation.

Mol Psychiatry

January 2025

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Psychotic Disorders, Brain Health Institute, National Center for Mental Disorders, Shanghai Mental Health Center, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and School of Psychology, Shanghai, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Non-invasive brain stimulation shows potential for treating various neuropsychiatric and neurological conditions, with optimization possible through understanding its effects in different brain regions.
  • Researchers used implanted electrodes to analyze acute responses to transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) at various frequencies, discovering significant neural changes, particularly in the hippocampus and amygdala.
  • The study found that 10 Hz stimulation in the hippocampus produced the strongest and most consistent effects, suggesting that this frequency could enhance cognitive functions, but further research with larger samples is needed to explore its clinical applications.

S-palmitoylation is a reversible and widespread post-translational modification, but its role in the regulation of ferroptosis has been poorly understood. Here, we elucidate that GPX4, an essential regulator of ferroptosis, is reversibly palmitoylated on cysteine 66. The acyltransferase ZDHHC20 palmitoylates GPX4 and increases its protein stability.

Introduction: Multimodal anticancer therapies greatly damage the fertility of breast cancer patients, which raises urgent demand for fertility preservation. The standard options for fertility preservation are oocyte and embryo cryopreservation; both require controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH). However, there are safety concerns regarding breast cancer relapse due to the elevated serum estradiol levels during COH.
