The primary challenge in microarray-based biological analysis lies in achieving the sensitive and specific detection of single-molecule targets while ensuring high reproducibility. A user-friendly digital imaging platform has been developed for the encoded trichromic profiling of circulating microRNAs (miRNAs). This platform replaces the traditional exponential polymerase amplification reaction (EXPAR) conducted on the microliter scale with a system that confines the amplification process within thousands of femtoliter-sized microdroplet reactors, cross-linked from tetra-armed poly(ethylene glycol) acrylate (Tetra-PEGA) and poly(ethylene glycol) dithiol (HS-PEG-SH), thus offering significant advantages, including minimal sample input, enhanced reactivity, and simplified analytical procedures.

Many patients with cardiac arrest (CA) experience severe kidney injury after the return of spontaneous circulation. This study aimed to compare the renal protective effect of conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR), extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR), and ECPR with therapeutic hypothermia (ECPR+T) in a CA rat model. Twenty-four adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly and equally allocated into the sham, CCPR, ECPR, and ECPR+T groups.

Objective: To testify the spatial relationship between the subscapularis muscle splitting window and the axillary nerve in modified arthroscopic Latarjet procedure, which could provide anatomical basis for the modification of the subscapularis muscle splitting.

Methods: A total of 29 adult cadaveric shoulder specimens were dissected layer by layer, and the axillary nerve was finally confirmed to walk on the front surface of the subscapularis muscle. Keeping the shoulder joint in a neutral position, the Kirschner wire was passed through the subscapularis muscle from back to front at the 4 : 00 position of the right glenoid circle (7 : 00 position of the left glenoid circle), and the anterior exit point (point A, the point of splitting subscapularis muscle during Latarjet procedure) was recorded.

Background: Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare histiocytic proliferative disorder of uncertain pathogenesis. Most patients present with proliferation in the lymph nodes manifesting as adenopathy; however, RDD may primarily arise in a variety of extranodal sites, including the bone, which is a great challenge in the diagnosis. The clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic features of primary intraosseous RDD have not been well characterized.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to summarize the incidence, risk factors, and prognostic factors of distant metastasis of sinonasal carcinoma.

Methods: We collected data for patients diagnosed with sinonasal carcinoma from 2010 to 2015 from the SEER database and analyzed the risk factors for distant metastasis via univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. In addition, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis models were used to describe the factors related to the overall survival of patients with distant metastasis.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common shoulder disorder that impacts shoulder functions. Shoulder arthroplasty is often required to restore function and quality of life. Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RSA), which was originally designed mainly for irreparable rotator cuff damage, has gained popularity in recent years for the treatment of advanced shoulder OA instead of the clinically standard total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA).

A Linarin Derivative Protects against Ischemia-Induced Neuronal Injury in Mice by Promoting Cerebral Blood Flow Recovery via KDELR-Dependent CSPG4 Activation.

Oxid Med Cell Longev

August 2022

Department of Neurosurgery, Shenzhen University First Affiliated Hospital, Shenzhen Second People's Hospital, Graduate School of Guangzhou Medical University, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen 518035, China.

The cerebral ischemic microvascular response and collateral circulation compensatory capacity are important for the outcome of ischemic stroke. Here, we sought to evaluate the effect of a linarin derivate 4'-benzylapigenin-7--rutinoside (BLR) on neurological function and cerebral blood flow restoration in ischemic stroke. A mouse model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (30 min) with reperfusion (24 h) was used to mimic ischemic stroke , and 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assays, and immunofluorescence microscopy were used to assess the protective effects of BLR on infarct volume, neurological function, neuronal apoptosis, and inflammatory damage.

Metabonomic Characteristics of Myocardial Diastolic Dysfunction in Type 2 Diabetic Cardiomyopathy Patients.

Front Physiol

May 2022

Department of Endocrinology, Shenzhen Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases, Shenzhen Second People's Hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University, Health Science Center of Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is one of the most essential cardiovascular complications in diabetic patients associated with glucose and lipid metabolism disorder, fibrosis, oxidative stress, and inflammation in cardiomyocytes. Despite increasing research on the molecular pathogenesis of DCM, it is still unclear whether metabolic pathways and alterations are probably involved in the development of DCM. This study aims to characterize the metabolites of DCM and to identify the relationship between metabolites and their biological processes or biological states through untargeted metabolic profiling.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on developing a simulation-based method using a proprioceptive musculoskeletal model to evaluate and optimize a newly designed exoskeleton for stroke rehabilitation, aiming to make the evaluation process more convenient.
  • Three stroke-affected volunteers participated in experiments to compare their gait with and without the exoskeleton, where metrics such as joint angles, muscle activations, and metabolic costs were analyzed through simulations.
  • Results showed significant improvements with the exoskeleton, including 11.6-37.8% better joint angles compared to normal data, increased proprioceptive feedback during gait cycles, improved muscle support, and reduced metabolic costs for patients.

Inflammation

October 2021

Emergency Department, Shenzhen Second People's Hospital, Shenzhen University First Affiliated Hospital, No.3002 Sungang West Road, Shenzhen, 518035, Guangdong, People's Republic of China.

Cardiac dysfunction in severe sepsis is associated with increased mortality. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying septic heart dysfunction remain unclear. Expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator 1α (Pgc-1α), concentrations of inflammatory factors, and activation of the nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) signaling pathway were examined in H9c2 cells after a 24-h lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation period using qPCR, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs), and western blots (WBs), respectively.

Rationale: Severe hypofibrinogenemia after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) is rare and easily overlooked, but hypofibrinogenemia increases the risk of major bleeding. However, it is unclear when hypofibrinogenemia reaches the peak and when hypofibrinogenemia is resolved.

Patient Concerns: Case 1 was of a 66-year-old man who was hospitalized due to sudden onset of vague speech and right hemiplegia for 4 hours.
