is a major pathogen of nosocomial meningitis and ventriculitis. Due to very limited antibiotic treatment options, polymyxins are often used as a last-line therapy. To optimise polymyxin use in the intraventricular environment, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteomics was employed to investigate host-pathogen-polymyxin interactions in a 69-year-old patient with multidrug-resistant ventriculitis treated with a combination of intrathecal (ITH; 50,000 IU q24h/q48h), intraventricular (IVT; 50,000 IU q48h), and intravenous (500,000 IU, q12h) polymyxin B.

Histone deacetylase HDAC6 has been implicated in regulating antiviral innate immunity. However, its precise function in response to DNA virus infection remains elusive. Herein, we find that HDAC6 deficiency promotes the activation of cGAS-STING signaling and type I interferon (IFN) production, both in vitro and in vivo, resulting in a decrease in HSV-1 infection.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a nomogram that combines intratumoral and peritumoral radiomics based on multi-parametric MRI for predicting the postoperative pathological upgrade of high-risk breast lesions and sparing unnecessary surgeries.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 138 patients with high-risk breast lesions (January 1, 2019, to January 1, 2023) were randomly divided into a training set (n=96) and a validation set (n=42) at a 7:3 ratio. The best-performing MRI sequence for intratumoral radiomics was selected to develop individual and combined radiomics scores (Rad-Scores).

Cellular senescence plays a critical role in repeated ultraviolet (UV) exposure-induced skin photoaging. Currently, from the perspective of regulating senescent cells, potent compounds or reliable protein targets that could effectively prevent skin photoaging have not yet been reported. Herein, we demonstrated that chlorogenic acid (CGA) significantly inhibited UVA-induced senescence of human dermis skin fibroblasts (HDF) cells by screening the natural product library.

Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a prevalent type of skin cancer in which the inherent subjectivity of dermoscopy poses diagnostic challenges. Existing AI systems, which provide mainly image-level insights, lack the interpretability that is crucial for effective clinical decisions and patient education.
Patients And Methods: Our study developed a refined BCC dataset from the Human‒Machine Adversarial Model (HAM10000), which was annotated by clinicians to identify key diagnostic features.

Background: Psychological disorders, such as anxiety and depression, are considered to be one of the causes of noncardiac chest pain (NCCP). And these patients can be challenging to differentiate from coronary artery disease (CAD), leading to a considerable number of patients still undergoing angiography. We aim to develop a practical prediction model and nomogram using cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), to help identify these patients.

Ammonium level in body fluids serves as one of the critical biomarkers for healthcare, especially those relative to liver diseases. The continuous and real-time monitoring in both invasive and non-invasive manners is highly desired, while the ammonium concentrations vary largely in different body fluids. Besides, the sensing reliability based on ion-selective biosensors can be significantly interfered by potassium ions.

Cyanine dye-containing nanoparticles have widely been used in "all-in-one" NIR fluorescence imaging (FI)-guided photothermal therapy (PTT) because of their intrinsically large extinction coefficient and available physical and chemical modulation methods to tune absorption and emission wavelengths. The combination of good brightness and excellent tumor-targeting capacity is the key to realize efficient NIR-II FI-guided PTT. In this study, by covalently decorating NIR-II absorptive cyanine dyes with bulky AIE motify, we demonstrate how steric hindrance suppresses π-π stacking-induced fluorescence quenching and contributes to the good brightness of NIR-II FI of subcutaneous glioblastoma.

Sepsis, caused by infections, sparks a dangerous bodily response. The transcriptional expression patterns of host responses aid in the diagnosis of sepsis, but the challenge lies in their limited generalization capabilities. To facilitate sepsis diagnosis, we present an updated version of single-cell Pair-wise Analysis of Gene Expression (scPAGE) using transfer learning method, scPAGE2, dedicated to data fusion between single-cell and bulk transcriptome.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is intricately linked to the pathogenesis of low back pain (LBP). The balance of nucleus pulposus (NP) cell and intervertebral disc (IVD) integrity is significantly supported by amino acid metabolism within an avascular milieu. However, the specific metabolic demands during the progression of IDD are not fully understood.

Vacuolar-type H+-ATPase (V-ATPase) is a crucial proton pump that plays an essential role in maintaining intracellular pH homeostasis and a variety of physiological processes. This review provides an in-depth exploration of the structural components, functional mechanisms, and regulatory modes of V-ATPase in cancer cells. Comprising two main domains, V and V, V-ATPase drives the proton pump through ATP hydrolysis, sustaining the pH balance within the cell and organelles.
