Background And Aim: The latest Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging system suggests considering surgery in patients with resectable BCLC stage 0/A hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH). This study aimed to evaluate the safety and short- and long-term outcomes of laparoscopic hepatectomy for BCLC stage 0/A HCC patients with CSPH.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 647 HCC patients in BCLC stage 0/A who were treated at five centers between January 2010 and January 2019.

[Tau Protein Induces Aberrant Alternative Splicing Changes in PS19 Transgenic Mice].

Sichuan Da Xue Xue Bao Yi Xue Ban

September 2023

Department of Clinical Laboratory, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430030, China.

Objective: To explore through big data analysis whether aberrant alternative splicing (AS) events precede tau -induced neurodegenerative phenotype in 6-month-old PS19 mice.

Methods: The original sequencing files of the GSE182170 dataset was downloaded from the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) database with axel, aligned to the reference genome of the ENSEMBL database by using STAR software, and common AS event analysis and visualization were performed with rMATS and rmats2sashimiplot R packages. RSEM software was utilized for gene transcript quantification, Deseq2, edgeR, and limma R packages were used for differential expression analysis, and clusterProfiler R package was applied for GO enrichment analysis.

Background And Aim: Clinical work has revealed that hepatectomy for resectable ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (rHCC) has a relatively high percentage of positive resection margins found in postoperative pathology. It is necessary to evaluate the risk factors associated with R1 resection in patients undergoing hepatectomy for rHCC.

Methods: A total of 408 patients with resectable rHCC originating from three centers undergoing surgery from January 2012 to January 2020 were consecutively enrolled in the study to study the prognostic impact of R1 resection using Kaplan-Meier plotting of survival curves.

A nomogram for preoperative prediction of microvascular invasion in ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma.

Eur J Gastroenterol Hepatol

May 2023

Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Huangshi Central Hospital of Edong Healthcare Group, Hubei Polytechnic University, Huangshi, Hubei, China.

Background And Aim: Microvascular invasion (MVI) is defined as the presence of micrometastatic cancer cell emboli in hepatic vessels, including small vessels, and at present, researchers believe that is an important factor for early postoperative recurrence and survival. Here, we developed and validated a preoperative predictive model for the presence of MVI in patients with ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (rHCC).

Methods: We retrospectively collected data for 210 rHCC patients who underwent staged hepatectomy at Wuhan Tongji Hospital, and 91 patients who underwent staged hepatectomy at Zhongshan People's Hospital between January 2010 and March 2021.

Background: Patients with critical coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), characterized by respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation (MV), are at high risk of mortality. An effective and practical MV weaning protocol is needed for these fragile cases.

Case Summary: Here, we present two critical COVID-19 patients who presented with fever, cough and fatigue.

We report the clinical and laboratory findings and successful management of seven patients with critical coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) requiring mechanical ventilation (MV). The patients were diagnosed based on epidemiological history, clinical manifestations, and nucleic acid testing. Upon diagnosis with COVID-19 of critical severity, the patients were admitted to the intensive care unit, where they received early noninvasive-invasive sequential ventilation, early prone positioning, and bundle pharmacotherapy regimen, which consists of antiviral, anti-inflammation, immune-enhancing, and complication-prophylaxis medicines.

Association between the MMP-1-1607 1G/2G Polymorphism and Osteoarthritis Risk: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Biomed Res Int

March 2021

Department of Spinal Surgery, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University, Shenzhen Baoan District People's Hospital, Shenzhen 518101, China.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common disease characterized by articular cartilage degeneration and secondary hyperosteogenesis. Genetic factors are associated with the occurrence of OA. While several studies have shown that the matrix metalloproteinase-1- (MMP-1-) 1607 1G/2G (rs1799750) polymorphism may be related to the occurrence and development of OA, there is inconsistency in the literature.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has become an immense public health burden, first in China and subsequently worldwide. Developing effective control measures for COVID-19, especially measures that can halt the worsening of severe cases to a critical status is of urgent importance.

Case Summary: A 52-year-old woman presented with a high fever (38.

Objective: To investigate the effect of early enteral nutrition (EN) standardized treatment process management on the ventilation treatment effect and prognosis of patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) on invasive mechanical ventilation.

Methods: Forty-three patients with AECOPD on invasive mechanical ventilation admitted to Shenzhen Baoan District People's Hospital from January 2017 to December 2018 were enrolled. According to the start time of the continuous quality improvement project of nutritional support treatment for critically ill patients in the hospital, 20 patients from January 1st to December 31st in 2017 were enrolled in the routine EN group, and 23 patients from January 1st to December 31st in 2018 were enrolled in the early EN group.

Objective And Design: Endothelial dysfunction plays an important role in all stages of atherosclerosis and is characterized by an increased proinflammatory response. This study investigated the effect of angiotensin (1-7) on angiotensin II (Ang II)-mediated inflammation in endothelial cells (ECs) and uncovered its molecular mechanism.

Methods And Results: Real-time PCR and western blot analysis were used to determine lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1 (LOX-1) expression.
