Seven novel heterometallic coordination polymers [CeAg(Hbidc)(2)(H(2)O)(2)] (1) and [LnAg(Hbidc)(2)]·3(H(2)O)[Ln = Sm (2), Gd (3), Tb (4), Dy (5), Ho (6), Er (7), H(3)bidc = 1H-benzimidazole-5,6-dicarboxylic acid] have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, TG analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. X-Ray analysis revealed that the seven complexes present two different types of three-dimensional (3D) structures. Complex 1 crystallized in an orthorhombic manner having a Pna2(1) space group, consisting of a 3D framework with a 1D heterometallic chain.

Eu(2+)-doped BaAl12O19 phosphors were prepared using the sol-gel method, and their structure and luminescence properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and fluorescence spectrometry. The results showed that a single hexagonal BaAl12O19 crystal structure was synthesized and the emission spectrum of BaAl12O19:Eu exhibited a broad asymmetric band from 375 to 600 nm, which was composed of three emission peaks at 438, 462, and 511 nm. The effects of crystallization temperature, Eu2+ concentration, and Al3+ content on the occupation of Eu2+ in three crystallographic positions were investigated.

Potassium aqua-terbium(III) oxalate sulfate.

Acta Crystallogr Sect E Struct Rep Online

June 2009

Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry, Shenyang Institute of Chemical Technology, Shenyang 110142, People's Republic of China.

Single crystals of KTb(C(2)O(4))(SO(4))(H(2)O), potassium aqua-terbium(III) oxalate sulfate, were obtained under hydro-thermal conditions. In the crystal structure, the Tb(III) atom is coordinated by four O atoms from two oxalate anions, three O atoms from three sulfate anions and one O atom from a water mol-ecule within a TbO(8) distorted square antiprismatic coordination. The potassium and terbium(III) atoms are bridged by the oxalate and sulfate groups, forming a three-dimensional structure.

Nineteen ursolic acid derivatives (15 novel compounds) modified at the C-3 and the C-28 positions were synthesized. The cytotoxic activity of the derivatives was evaluated against HeLa, BGC-823 and SKOV3 cells by MTT assay. Inducing apoptosis and affecting cell cycle distribution by the derivatives in HeLa cells were assessed by flow cytometry and DNA fragmentation.

The synthesis of benzothiaxolyldiazoaminoazobenzene (BTDAB) is described, and a simple, rapid and sensitive procedure for spectrophotometric determination of nickel has been developed. At pH 9.4, in the presence of emulsifier p-octylpolyethyleneglycol phenylether (OP), the reagent reacts with nickel to form a red 1:3 (metal:ligand) complex.

The dinuclear complexes [Pd(2)(L)(2)(bipy)(2)] (1), [Pd(2)(L)(2)(phen)(2)] (2), [Pt(2)(L)(2)(bipy)(2)] (3) and [Pt(2)(L)(2)(phen)(2)] (4), where bipy=2,2'-bipyridine, phen=1,10-phenanthroline and L=2,2'-azanediyldibenzoic dianion) dibridged by H(2)L ligands have been synthesized and characterized. The binding of the complexes with fish sperm DNA (FS-DNA) were investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy. The results indicate that the four complexes bound to DNA with different binding affinity, in the order complex 4>complex 3>complex 2>complex 1, and the complex 3 binds to DNA in both coordination and intercalative mode.

Biodegradation of pentyl amine and aniline from petrochemical wastewater.

J Environ Manage

April 2007

Faculty of Environmental and biological Engineering, Shenyang Institute of Chemical Technology, Shenyang 110000, China.

The objectives of the project were to isolate a bacterial strain capable of degrading pentyl amine and aniline and to define the optimal pentyl amine and aniline degradation conditions for this bacterial strain. The bacterial strain was isolated from activated sludge obtained from a Northeastern China treatment facility for petrochemical wastewater rich in pentyl amine and aniline. Once the strain was isolated, five triplicate (5) batch tests were used to establish the conditions for maximum pentyl amine and aniline degradation, by varying one at a time the following five factors: temperature, pH, reaction time, pollutant concentrations and aeration rate.

In this paper, a new method for simultaneous spectropthotometric determination of tungsten, molybdenum and titanium is proposed. The method is based on the difference of absorption spectra of the three elements forming coloured complexes with PF in acidic medium and in the presence of nonionic surfactant Tween-80. The absorbance of sample was measured at wavelengths of 503, 530 and 560 nm, and the data were treated by the principle of the k coefficients and dual-wavelength standard addition method.
