Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) manifests in premature neonates with aberrant pulmonary function. Numerous long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been implicated in the pathogenesis of BPD. This study aims to elucidate the impact of the lncRNA myocardial infarction-associated transcript (MIAT) on the initiation and progression of BPD.

Unlabelled: Esophageal cancer remains a formidable challenge in oncology, characterized by its poor prognosis and limited therapeutic options. Recent investigations have unveiled the potential of repurposing existing drugs for cancer treatment. Notably, etomidate, an anesthetic agent traditionally used for inducing general anesthesia, has emerged as a promising candidate demonstrating significant anticancer properties across various tumor types.

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are present in the tumor microenvironment and can polarize into subtypes with different functions and characteristics in response to different stimuli, classifying them into anti-tumorigenic M1-type and pro-tumorigenic M2-type. The M1-type macrophages inhibit tumor growth through the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, whereas the M2-type macrophages contribute to tumor progression through the promotion of tumor proliferation, angiogenesis and metastasis. Due to the duality of macrophage effects on tumors, TAMs have been a hot topic in tumor research.

Background: Currently, the need for new therapeutic strategies involving programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) monoclonal antibodies in the second-line setting of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is urgent. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anlotinib plus penpulimab as a second-line treatment for patients with SCLC who progressed after first-line platinum-based chemotherapy.
Methods: This study included the patients from Cohort 4 of a single-arm, open-label, multicenter, phase II clinical trial.

Background: The respiratory microbiota plays a crucial role in the development of tuberculosis (TB). While existing research has underscored imbalances in the respiratory microbiota of adult patients with TB, information regarding the lower respiratory tract (LRT) microbiota in pediatric patients with TB remains scarce.
Methods: We employed 16S rRNA gene sequencing technology to investigate the LRT microbial communities of 85 children of different ages with active TB of different severities, 33 children with infectious diseases other than TB, and 48 sex- and age-matched healthy children.
Background: We aimed to use lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) as a marker of inflammation burden and quantify post-stroke inflammation's direct and indirect effect on functional disability.
Methods: We analyzed 5,129 patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) admitted to Shenyang First People's Hospital. Stroke recurrence and functional outcome measured by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) were assessed at 90 days.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of age-related dementia worldwide. Although the neuropathology of AD is clear, its pathogenesis remains unclear. Recently, conceptualising AD as brain-centred has reoriented many scientists because the close functional relationship between the peripheral and central nerves is increasingly recognised.

Background: Lung cancer associated with cystic airspaces is a rare disease, and a rare imaging performance of non-small cell lung cancer. Due to the lack of conventional diagnosis methods, it is difficult to rely on imaging diagnosis. Therefore, the definitive diagnosis of these neoplastic lesions remains challenging.

Lung cancer persistently leads as the primary cause of morbidity and mortality among malignancies. A notable increase in the prevalence of lung adenocarcinoma has become evident in recent years. Although targeted therapies have shown in treating certain subsets of non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC), a significant proportion of patients still face suboptimal therapeutic outcomes.

Objectives: Tuberculous pleurisy is one of the most common types of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis, but the sensitivity of conventional mycobacterial culture (Culture) or Xpert MTB/RIF assay (Xpert) is not satisfying. This multicentre cohort study evaluated the accuracy of a new cell-free DNA droplet digital PCR assay (cf-ddPCR) for diagnosing tuberculous pleurisy.
Methods: Patients with suspected tuberculosis (≥5 years of age) with pleural effusion were consecutively recruited from nine research sites across six provinces in China between September 2020 to May 2022.

Background: Tracheobronchopathia osteochondroplastica (TPO) is a rare, benign, chronic disorder of unknown etiology. It is characterized by submucosal nodules, often calcified, which predominantly affect the anterolateral aspects of the trachea and main bronchi, while sparing the posterior bronchial wall. The co-occurrence of TPO and lung cancer is exceedingly rare.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder causing progressive dementia. Research suggests that microRNAs (miRNAs) could serve as biomarkers and therapeutic targets for AD. Reduced levels of miR-137 have been observed in the brains of AD patients, but its specific role and downstream mechanisms remain unclear.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) exert antitumor responses in many types of cancer but may also induce serious or fatal toxicities that affect all organ systems, including the hematologic and lymphatic systems. However, the risk of hematologic and lymphatic system toxicities following different ICI treatments remains unknown. This study aimed to describe the hematologic and lymphatic system toxicities associated with different ICI regimens and the impact of combining ICIs with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs using the United States Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System pharmacovigilance database.

In recent years, the incidence of synchronous multiple primary lung cancers (MPLCs) has gradually increased. Surgery is the preferred treatment for these patients. There are great differences in the driving genes between individual tumors in patients with MPLC, and tumors with targeted mutations do not represent other tumors, which challenges the selection of targeted therapies for patients with MPLC.

Background: The localization of pulmonary nodules prior to thoracoscopic surgery remains challenging for thoracic surgeons, especially for those nodules that are not visible or palpable on the lung surface. Our study is a simple and effective minimally invasive method using indocyanine green through a special pathway to locate pulmonary nodules and fluorescence thoracoscopic surgery.
Methods: Thoracoscopic surgery was performed for 18 undiagnosed peripheral non-solid nodules no larger than 2 cm after location.

Mediastinal neurogenic tumors primarily originate from the intercostal and sympathetic nerves, whereas schwannomas originating from the brachial plexus are rare. Surgical intervention for such tumors is complex and associated with the risk of postoperative upper limb dysfunction due to their unique anatomical location. In this report, we present the case of a 21-year-old female diagnosed with a mediastinal schwannoma, who underwent a novel surgical approach combining cervical incision and intercostal uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).

Background: In recent years, the field of minimally invasive thoracic surgery has experienced significant advancements driven by improvements in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) techniques and surgical instruments. These advances have given rise to uniportal VATS as a new area of exploration in minimally invasive thoracic surgery. This technique presents several potential advantages, including reduced access trauma, less postoperative pain, improved cosmesis, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and faster rehabilitation, ultimately leading to an improvement in patient quality of life.
