Basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) proteins comprise a large family of transcription factors that are involved in plant growth and development, as well as responses to various types of environmental stress. (birch) is a pioneer tree species in secondary forest that plays a key role in maintaining ecosystem stability and forest regeneration, but few bHLHs involved in abiotic stress responses have been unveiled in birch. In this study, nine BpbHLH TFs related to stress responses in the birch genome were identified.

Garlic peels are frequently disposed of as agro-waste; their bioactivity and physiological activity for health benefits and disease protection are neglected. This study aims to examine the potential inhibitory effects of garlic peel extract as an antioxidant on 4 T1 triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) tumors in mice. The bioactive constituents of garlic peel were identified through HPLC-MS/MS analysis, while the antioxidant properties of garlic peel extract were assessed using peroxyl radical scavenging capacity (PSC) and cellular antioxidant activity (CAA) assays.

In recent decades, ecological niche models (ENMs) have been widely used to predict suitable habitats for species. However, for invasive organisms, the prediction accuracy is unclear. In this study, we employed the most widely used maximum entropy (MaxEnt) model and ensemble model (EM) Biomod2 and verified the practical effectiveness of the ENM in predicting the distribution areas of invasive insects based on the true occurrence of in China.

The present study used gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) to separate and identify the characteristic volatile flavor substances in 30 roasted peanut samples. GC-MS identified 59 volatile compounds, and GC-IMS detected 61 volatile flavor substances. The 30 peanut varieties were then divided into four groups on the basis of their volatile flavor substances using principal component analysis (PCA), and a fingerprint profile of the varieties' volatile characteristics was established from information peaks identified in the spectra.

germplasm resources in northeastern China are not current and do not accurately reflect the actual distribution of the species. The objective of this study was to investigate the morphological traits of species distributed in northeastern China and identify those that will facilitate their classification in this region. Leaf, flower, and achene characteristics of 18 species were used for morphological classification.

The effects of 10%-30% of wheat flour substitution with potato flour (PF) and sweet potato flour (SPF) on the flour and dough properties, the total polyphenol (TPC), and carotenoid contents (TCC) of bread, as well as their correlation with bread texture and starch digestibility, were investigated. With PF and SPF addition, the peak, breakdown, and setback viscosity of the flour decreased. The addition of PF and SPF reduced the dough formation and stabilization duration, as well as the hardness of the bread.

Although flaxseed gum (FG) has been widely studied, the differences in its structure and function with respect to various flaxseed cultivars remain unclear. In this study, our objective was to examine the differences between FG samples obtained from different flaxseed cultivars based on their structural and functional properties. Specifically, FG samples from the different cultivars were extracted via hot water extraction followed by ethanol precipitation.

Immune-based interventions are the most promising approach for new cancer treatments to achieve long-term cancer-free survival. However, the expansion of myeloid-derived suppression cells (MDSCs) attenuates the therapeutic potential of immunotherapy. We recently showed that CD205+ granulocytic MDSCs (G-MDSCs), but not T cells, are sensitive to glucose deficiency.

Cow milk (CM) allergy is one of the most common food allergies worldwide; the most abundant CM proteins, such as casein (CN), β-lactoglobulin (β-LG), and ɑ-lactalbumin (ɑ-LA), are all potentially allergenic. Reducing the antigenicity of CM continues to be a major challenge. However, previous studies have focused on the antigenicity of individual allergic CM proteins.

The evolution of increased competitive ability (EICA) hypothesis states that, when introduced in a novel habitat, invasive species may reallocate resources from costly quantitative defense mechanisms against enemies to dispersal and reproduction; meanwhile, the refinement of EICA suggests that concentrations of toxins used for qualitative defense against generalist herbivores may increase. Previous studies considered that only few genotypes were introduced to the new range, whereas most studies to test the EICA (or the refinement of EICA) hypotheses did not consider founder effects. In this study, genetic and phenotypic data of populations sampled across native and introduced ranges were combined to investigate the role of postintroduction evolution in the successful invasion of .
