Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Goserelin acetate (Zoladex) 10.8 mg in patients with uterine fibroids, with assessments made before and after a 12-week treatment period, leading up to surgery.
  • After treatment, significant reductions were observed in uterine and fibroid volumes, along with decreased levels of hormones like estrogen, while hemoglobin levels increased, indicating improved anemia symptoms.
  • The results indicated that Goserelin acetate is both effective in managing uterine fibroids and safe, with a high incidence of adverse events but overall good tolerance reported among patients.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality among men worldwide, and its incidence has risen substantially in recent years. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify novel biomarkers and precise therapeutic targets for managing PCa progression and recurrence.

Methods: We investigated the clinical significance of NCAPG2 in PCa by exploring public datasets and our tissue microarray.

Purpose: To summarize the data of previously reported medical imaging features on human malignancies to provide a scientific basis for more credible imaging feature selection for future studies.

Materials And Methods: A search was performed in PubMed from database inception through March 23, 2018, for studies clearly stating the decoding of medical imaging features for malignancy-related objectives and/or hypotheses. The Newcastle-Ottawa scale was used for quality assessment of the included studies.

Association between ambient particulate matter exposure and platelet counts in adults: a retrospective cohort study.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

June 2021

Clinical Research Center, Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Shenjing Hospital of China Medical University, Sanhao Street, No. 36, Heping District, Shenyang, China.

Associations between ambient particulate matter exposure and platelet counts are inconsistent in previous studies, and study on the effect of long-term exposure especially in Asian populations is limited. We explored the associations between long-term PM (particulate matter < 2.5 μm) exposure and platelet counts using a prospective cohort study in Northeast China.

The heterogeneity of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) acts as a main barrier to identify the genetic basis of the disease and the choice of treatment. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from three mRNA expression profile datasets were screened using GEO2R, and bioinformatics analysis was performed on the DEGs. A total of six upregulated and 13 downregulated DEGs were identified.

Respiratory disease admission has been increasing in the recent 5 years due to heavy air pollutions and bad weather conditions in China. We investigated the short-term association of ambient air pollution with daily counts of hospital admissions due to respiratory infection diseases with stratified analysis by age (0-18, 19-65, and > 65 years old), gender (male, female), season (spring, summer, autumn, winter), and disease type (lung infections, asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive disease), URI (upper respiratory infections)) in heavy polluted city of Shenyang in China. Daily ambient air pollution concentrations, weather conditions, and hospital admission counts for 53 months (from November 1, 2013 to March 25, 2018) were extracted from related authorities in electronic databases.

Effects of variations in meteorological factors on daily hospital visits for asthma: A time-series study.

Environ Res

March 2020

Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Shenjing Hospital of China Medical University, Sanhao Street, No. 36, Heping District, China. Electronic address:

Few studies have explored the relationships between meteorological factors and asthma. This study explored the associations between daily variations in meteorological factors and hospital visits for asthma among different ages, genders, and asthma subtypes in Shenyang, China. A distributed lag non-linear model with Poisson regression was used; confounding factors included day of the week, holidays, and seasonal patterns, and long-term trends and air pollutants were adjusted using natural cubic splines.

Objective This prospective randomized controlled study was performed to determine whether early drug use for osteoporosis impacts bone healing after orthomorphic surgery for hallux valgus (HV) in menopausal patients with osteoporosis. Methods This study included 113 consecutive patients with osteoporosis who underwent a combination of Lapidus arthrodesis and Akin osteotomy for treatment of HV. The patients were randomly divided into a zoledronic acid (ZOL) group (5-mg intravenous injection of ZOL, n = 56) and a placebo group (n = 57); both ZOL and placebo were administered 1 week postoperatively.

Under normal physiological condition, the mature vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) show differentiated phenotype. In response to various environmental stimuluses, VSMCs convert from the differentiated phenotype to dedifferentiated phenotype characterized by the increased ability of proliferation/migration and the reduction of contractile ability. The phenotypic transformation of VSMCs played an important role in atherosclerosis.

Patients may develop serious eye complications after continuous radiofrequency thermocoagulation (CRF) for V1 (ophthalmic division) trigeminal neuralgia (TN) at a higher temperature. Therefore, the temperature of clinical CRF for V1 TN has long been disputed, but there have few reports been found about how to achieve satisfactory pain relief, reduce the incidence rates of complications, and shorten the recovery time after CRF for V1 TN.To observe whether pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) can lead to increased rate in pain relief, reduced rate of complications, or shortened recovery time after CRF is used to treat V1 idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (ITN).

Radiofrequency thermocoagulation (RFT) is widely used to treat trigeminal neuralgia (TN); however, the optimal temperature at which RFT is most efficacious remains under much debate. Thus, the aim of the present study was to determine the lowest temperature at which morbidity could be minimized and patient outcomes maximized.A multivariate analysis was used to study 1354 patients who underwent computed tomography (CT)-guided RFT for V2/V3 idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (ITN) during from June 2006 to May 2015.

Recent economic development in China has resulted in large increases in psychogenic and metabolic diseases. However, few studies have focused on the mental status of rural residents with diabetes. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of depressive symptoms among patients with diabetes to establish the association between depressive symptoms and socio-demographic and clinical factors.

Obesity contributes to reduced kidney function; however, whether this is due to obesity itself or the metabolic abnormalities that accompany it is unclear. Besides, most previous studies enrolled participants with moderate or severe stage of chronic kidney disease. In the present study, we aim to investigate the possible relationship between obesity, metabolic abnormalities and mildly reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).
