Background: Thyroid disorders have significant clinical sequelae, including impaired growth in children, metabolic abnormalities, and impaired cognitive function. However, available studies on burden of thyroid diseases in people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), particularly its prevalence and its interaction with HIV related factors (like CD4 count), are controversial. This review aimed to provide a comprehensive summary and analysis on the extent of thyroid dysfunctions in this population.

Background: Malaria vector control activities in Sudan rely largely on Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs), Indoor Residual Spray (IRS) and Larval Source Management (LSM). The present study attempted to determine cost effectiveness of inputs and operations of vector control interventions applied in different environmental settings in central and eastern Sudan, as well as their impact.
Methods: The inputs utilized and cost of each vector control activity, operational achievements and impact of the applied malaria vector control activities; IRS, LLINs and LSM were determined for eight sites in Al Gazira state (central Sudan) and Al Gadarif state (eastern Sudan).

The transmembrane glycoprotein angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is a key component of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). It was shown to be the receptor of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in the COVID-19 outbreak (SARS-COV-2). Furthermore, ACE2 aids in the transport of amino acids across the membrane.

Freiberg's disease is a rare disorder affecting the distal metatarsal bones. With no quantitative estimate of its prevalence, the exact pathophysiology of Freiberg's disease is not clearly recognized. However, micro-trauma, repetitive injury, and vascular insufficiency have been implicated the most as predisposing factors for the condition.

Background: Mycetoma is a chronic disease affecting the skin and subcutaneous tissue endemic in the tropical and subtropical regions. Several bacteria and fungi can cause mycetoma, but fungal mycetoma (eumycetoma) is challenging because the treatment requires a combination of a long-term antifungal agent and surgery. Although the transmission route has not yet been elucidated, infection from the soil is a leading hypothesis.

Over the years, several studies have revealed an important link between thyroid disorders and gallstone disease. According to these studies, hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are associated with cholesterol gallstone disease. This association between thyroid hormone disorders and cholesterol gallstone disease is due to the importance of thyroid hormones on cholesterol synthesis, bile functioning and content, and gallbladder motility.

Effusions, characterized by abnormal fluid accumulations in body cavities, present difficulties in identifying the primary organs of metastatic tumors through cytopathologic investigation, particularly in cancer-related complications. This retrospective cross-sectional laboratory study aimed to investigate the role of thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1) in distinguishing lung adenocarcinomas from non-pulmonary adenocarcinomas in effusions. The study was conducted at Almobarak Cytopathology Laboratory, a private cytopathology laboratory.

Repurposing natural compounds as inhibitory targets to combat bacterial virulence is an important potential strategy to overcome resistance to traditional antibiotics, in the present study, the antibacterial activity of micro-curcumin and nano-sized curcumin was investigated against four predominant bacterial pathogens, namely, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis. Curcumin bactericidal susceptibility could be summarized as the order, P. aeruginosa > B.

GluN2B-induced activation of NMDA receptors plays a key function in central nervous system (CNS) disorders, including Parkinson, Alzheimer, and stroke, as it is strongly involved in excitotoxicity, which makes selective NMDA receptor antagonists one of the potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, especially stroke. The present study aims to examine a structural family of thirty brain-penetrating GluN2B N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists, using virtual computer-assisted drug design (CADD) to discover highly candidate drugs for ischemic strokes. Initially, the physicochemical and ADMET pharmacokinetic properties confirmed that C13 and C22 compounds were predicted as non-toxic inhibitors of CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 cytochromes, with human intestinal absorption (HIA) exceeding 90%, and designed to be as efficient central nervous system (CNS) agents due to the highest probability to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB).

Cyclooxygenase (COX) and Lipoxygenase (LOX) are essential enzymes for arachidonic acid (AA) to eicosanoids conversion. These AA-derived eicosanoids are essential for initiating immunological responses, causing inflammation, and resolving inflammation. Dual COX/5-LOX inhibitors are believed to be promising novel anti-inflammatory agents.

To prevent the rapidly increasing prevalence of bacterial resistance, it is crucial to discover new antibacterial agents. The emergence of carbapenemase (KPC)-producing Enterobacteriaceae has been associated with a higher mortality rate in gulf union countries and worldwide. Compared to physical and chemical approaches, green zinc oxide nanoparticle (ZnO-NP) synthesis is thought to be significantly safer and more ecofriendly.

Lately, nitrogenous heterocyclic antivirals, such as nucleoside-like compounds, oxadiazoles, thiadiazoles, triazoles, quinolines, and isoquinolines, topped the therapeutic scene as promising agents of choice for the treatment of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections and their accompanying ailment, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). At the same time, the continuous emergence of new strains of SARS-CoV-2, like the Omicron variant and its multiple sublineages, resulted in a new defiance in the enduring COVID-19 battle. Ensitrelvir (S-217622) is a newly discovered orally active noncovalent nonpeptidic agent with potential strong broad-spectrum anticoronaviral activities, exhibiting promising nanomolar potencies against the different SARS-CoV-2 variants.

Currently, nitrogen-containing heterocyclic virucides take the lead as top options for treating the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections and their escorting disease, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). But unfortunately, the sudden emergence of a new strain of SARS-CoV-2, the Omicron variant and its lineages, complicated matters in the incessant COVID-19 battle. Goaling the two paramount coronaviral-2 multiplication enzymes RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) and 3'-to-5' exoribonuclease (ExoN) at synchronous times using single ligand is a quite effective new binary avenue to restrain SARS-CoV-2 reproduction and cease COVID-19 progression irrespective of the SARS-CoV-2 strain type, as RdRps and ExoNs are vastly conserved in all SARS-CoV-2 strains.
