Quality of wheelchair services as perceived by users in rural Bangalore district, India: a cross-sectional survey.

Background And Aim: This study investigated the current state of wheelchair services in Bangalore Rural district, as provided by Bangalore Baptist Hospital, and identified areas for improvement.

Method: a cross-sectional survey was held among 50 wheelchair users. Data was collected on demographics, satisfaction, wheelchair skills and level of disability using QUEST, WST-Q and CHART-SF questionnaires.

The relationship between properties of plant-based biochars and sorption of Cd(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) in soil model systems.

Plant based biochars are proposed as soil amendments to immobilize potentially toxic trace elements (PTEs), such as Cd(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) and aid in soil restoration. However, the sorption capacity of biochar for these elements can vary widely depending on biochar nature and metal properties. Currently, there is no clear methodology to pre-screen biochars for their suitability as adsorbents for these elements.

Paediatric and adolescent gynaecology services in a tertiary teaching hospital.

This was a retrospective review of a tertiary Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (PAG) referral service catering to the South Yorkshire population in the UK. All patients referred to the PAG clinic from May 2014 to May 2018 were included. Treatments offered in clinic (surgical and pharmacological) were assessed and referral made to alternative services were analysed.

The D614G mutations in the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein: Implications for viral infectivity, disease severity and vaccine design.

The development of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has prompted an extensive worldwide sequencing effort to characterise the geographical spread and molecular evolution of the virus. A point mutation in the spike protein, D614G, emerged as the virus spread from Asia into Europe and the USA, and has rapidly become the dominant form worldwide. Here we review how the D614G variant was identified and discuss recent evidence about the effect of the mutation on the characteristics of the virus, clinical outcome of infection and host immune response.

H-WORK Project: Multilevel Interventions to Promote Mental Health in SMEs and Public Workplaces.

The paper describes the study design, research questions and methods of a large, international intervention project aimed at improving employee mental health and well-being in SMEs and public organisations. The study is innovative in multiple ways. First, it goes beyond the current debate on whether individual- or organisational-level interventions are most effective in improving employee health and well-being and tests the cumulative effects of multilevel interventions, that is, interventions addressing individual, group, leader and organisational levels.

Banks can improve their operational efficiency and quality of service by relying on CyberTech, but they become more vulnerable to cybersecurity. Thus, increasing investment in CyberTech becomes a strategic necessity for banks to combat cybersecurity hazards.

Shifting from volume to economic value in virtual water allocation problems: A proposed new framework and methodology.

Purpose: The water footprint provided a full methodology to operationalise the virtual water concept (the volume of water used along a supply chain to produce products and services). A key theme in the water footprint literature is the efficient allocation of water resources at the global scale given the feasibility of trading water intensive commodities from water rich to water poor areas: this is an economic problem of resource allocation between alternative and competing demands, albeit with a novel international component. Moreover, given that price signals indicating relative scarcity are usually either absent or distorted for water, it is also a problem that can be seen through the lens of environmental (or non-market) valuation.

Originating from China, cases quickly spread across the globe, prompting the implementation of stringent measures by world governments in efforts to isolate cases and limit the transmission rate of the virus. These measures have however shattered the core sustaining pillars of the modern world economies as global trade and cooperation succumbed to nationalist focus and competition for scarce supplies.

'All hands-on deck', working together to develop UK standards for public involvement in research.

Background: Public involvement in research is an established part of the research process in the UK, however there remain questions about what good public involvement in research looks and feels like. Until now public involvement practitioners, researchers and members of the public have looked for answers in examples shared across networks, published case studies, guidance and research articles. Pulling these strands together, the UK Standards for Public Involvement provides six statements (standards) about public involvement in research.

To report a case of delayed spontaneous closure of traumatic macular hole at 5 months in a 66-year-old man. Traumatic macular holes generally do not close spontaneously after 4 months and over 30 years of age. A 66-year-old man presented with central blurred vision and metamorphopsia in his right eye for 3 weeks after previous ocular blunt trauma occurring 2 months earlier.

Central Retinal Vein Prethrombosis Secondary to Retinal Vasculitis: Early Detection and Treatment.

The aim was to report a case of central retinal vein prethrombosis (CRVP), responsive to systemic steroids. An 18-year-old male presented with right sudden blurred vision and central scotoma for 2 days. Right best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) measured 6/36, and fundoscopy revealed vascular congestion and blurred disc margins.

How do aggression source, employee characteristics and organisational response impact the relationship between workplace aggression and work and health outcomes in healthcare employees? A cross-sectional analysis of the National Health Service staff survey in England.

Objectives: To examine the prevalence of aggression in healthcare and its association with employees' turnover intentions, health and engagement, as well as how these effects differ based on aggression source (patients vs colleagues), employee characteristics (race, gender and occupation) and organisational response to the aggression.

Design: Multilevel moderated regression analysis of 2010 National Health Service (NHS) survey.

Evaluating the effect of building construction periods on household dampness/mold and childhood diseases corresponding to different energy efficiency design requirements.

Despite concerns about building dampness and children' health, few studies have examined the effects of building energy efficiency standards. This study explored the connections between self-reported household dampness and children' adverse health outcomes across buildings corresponding to construction periods (pre-2001, 2001-2010, post-2010). Significant differences of dampness-related indicators were found between buildings; the prevalence was remarkable in pre-2001 buildings.

Background: COVID-19 has caused an unprecedented pandemic and medical emergency that has changed routine care pathways. This article discusses the extent of aerosolisation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, the virus that causes COVID-19, as a result of oesophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy.

Methods: PubMed and Google Scholar were searched for relevant publications, using the terms COVID-19 aerosolisation, COVID-19 infection, COVID-19 transmission, COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19 and endoscopy, Endoscopy for COVID-19 patients.

Background: Obesity is a global disease with at least 2.8 million people dying each year as a result of being overweight or obese according to the world health organization figures. This paper aims to explore the links between obesity and mortality in COVID-19.

Breast density classification in mammograms: An investigation of encoding techniques in binary-based local patterns.

We investigate various channel encoding techniques applied to breast density classification in mammograms; specifically, local binary, ternary, and quinary encoding approaches are considered. Subsequently, we propose a new encoding approach based on a seven-encoding technique, yielding a new local pattern operator called a local septenary pattern operator. Experimental results suggest that the proposed local pattern operator is robust and outperforms the other encoding techniques when evaluated on the Mammographic Image Analysis Society (MIAS) and InBreast datasets.

The patient-physician relationship: an account of the physician's perspective.

Background: The issue of patient-physician relationships in general, and particularly the trust of patients in their primary care physician has gained much interest in academia and with practitioners in recent years. Most research on this important topic, however, focused on how patients view the relationship and not how the physicians see it. This research strives to bridge this gap, with the resolution of leading to an improved appreciation of this multifaceted relationship.

Improving Working Conditions and Job Satisfaction in Healthcare: A Study Concept Design on a Participatory Organizational Level Intervention in Psychosocial Risks Management.

This paper contributes to the literature on organizational interventions on occupational health by presenting a concept study design to test the efficacy of a Participatory Organizational-level Intervention to improve working conditions and job satisfaction in Healthcare. The Participatory Organizational-level Intervention is developed using the Italian methodology to assess and manage psychosocial risks tailored to Healthcare. We added an additional step: evaluation, aiming to examine how the intervention works, what worked for whom and in which circumstances.

The 5-year follow-up of a real-world observational study of patients in the United Kingdom and Ireland receiving ibrutinib for relapsed/refractory mantle cell lymphoma.

This is a 5-year real-world study of 65 patients treated with ibrutinib for relapsed/refractory mantle cell lymphoma across the UK and Ireland. Ibrutinib was well tolerated with no fatal adverse events. The median progression-free survival and overall survival (OS) was 12 and 18·5 months, respectively.
