Context: Anemia and decreasing levels of hemoglobin (Hb) have previously been linked to increased fracture risk, but the added value to FRAX, the most utilized fracture prediction tool worldwide, is unknown.
Objective: To investigate the association between anemia, Hb levels, bone microstructure, and risk of incident fracture and to evaluate whether Hb levels improve fracture risk prediction in addition to FRAX clinical risk factors (CRFs).
Methods: A total of 2778 community-dwelling women, aged 75-80 years, and part of a prospective population-based cohort study in Sweden were included.

The prevalence and strength of serological responses mounted toward SARS-CoV-2 proteins other than nucleocapsid (N) and spike (S), which may be of use as additional serological markers, remains underexplored. Using high-content microscopy to assess antibody responses against full-length StrepTagged SARS-CoV-2 proteins, we found that 85% (166/196) of unvaccinated individuals with RT-PCR confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections and 74% (31/42) of individuals infected after being vaccinated developed detectable IgG against the structural protein M, which is higher than previous estimates. Compared with N antibodies, M IgG displayed a shallower time-dependent decay and greater specificity.

Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is a chronic, adult-onset optic neuropathy associated with characteristic optic disc and/or visual field changes. With a view to identifying modifiable risk factors for this common neurodegenerative condition, we performed a 'phenome-wide' univariable Mendelian randomisation (MR) study that involved analysing the relationship between 9661 traits and POAG. Utilised analytical approaches included weighted mode based estimation, the weighted median method, the MR Egger method and the inverse variance weighted (IVW) approach.

Research has evidenced the prevalence of ageism and identified the role of implicit bias in reflecting and potentially perpetuating disparities across society, including in healthcare. Yet age bias has rarely been considered as an explanatory factor in poorer outcomes for older breast cancer patients nor, consequentially, has removing age bias been considered as an approach to improving outcomes.

Methods: This mixed-methods study examined temporal variation in litigation rates relating to consent (between 2011 and 2020), using data obtained from National Health Service (NHS) Resolutions.

Background: The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway is involved in kidney tissue repair and growth. Preclinical interventional data and scarce human data have suggested a role for this pathway in the pathophysiology of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), while other data have suggested that its activation is causally linked to repair of damaged kidney tissue. We hypothesize that urinary EGFR ligands, as a reflection of EGFR activity, are associated with kidney function decline in ADPKD in the context of tissue repair following injury, and as the disease progresses as a sign of insufficient repair.
