Background: Oxytocin for postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) prophylaxis is commonly administered by either intramuscular (IM) injection or intravenous (IV) infusion with both routes recommended equally and little discussion of potential differences between the two. This trial assesses the effectiveness and safety of 10 IU oxytocin administered as IM injection versus IV infusion and IV bolus during the third stage of labor for PPH prophylaxis.

Methods: In two tertiary level Egyptian maternity hospitals, women delivering vaginally without exposure to pre-delivery uterotonics were randomized to one of three prophylactic oxytocin administration groups after delivery of the baby.

Background: Magnesium sulfate is the preferred pharmacological intervention for the prevention and treatment of eclamptic seizures in pregnancy. Pain associated with intramuscular injections and the need for an electronic infusion pump for use intravenously represent significant barriers to broader utilization. We hypothesize that an alternative regimen based on serial intravenous (IV) boluses can produce serum concentrations comparable to those produced by a continuous infusion.

May 2017

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine, Shatby Maternity Hospital, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt.

Endometriosis is strongly associated with infertility. January 2015

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Sant'Orsola Malpighi University Hospital, University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy (A.Y., E.M., O.S., L.C., G.P., T.G., G.P., N.R.); and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, El-Shatby Maternity Hospital, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt (E.E.A.).

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the reproducibility of a new technique for 3-dimensional (3D) pelvic floor sonography: OmniView combined with Volume Contrast Imaging (VCI; GE Healthcare, Kretz Ultrasound, Zipf, Austria) for pelvic hiatal area measurement. In addition, we aimed to study the intermethod agreement between the new technique and the standard 3D rendering method.

Methods: We acquired a static 3D sonographic transperineal volume from 124 nulliparous asymptomatic women and 118 women with symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction.

A placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial was conducted in six centres to compare the effects of a 14 day treatment with either 50 micrograms ethinyl oestradiol daily or 2.5 mg oestrone sulphate daily, on depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA)-induced prolonged bleeding. Out of 1035 women admitted to the study, 278 requested treatment and were given ethinyl oestradiol (n = 90), oestrone sulphate (n = 91) or placebo (n = 97).

September 1991

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Shatby Maternity Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt.

Whether the stroma of the endometrium, the spongy layer or the deeper parts of the endometrial glands is the origin of the postmenstrual surface epithelium is a matter of different opinions. The endometrium was examined during the second day of the menstrual bleeding in 20 fertile females using the scanning electron microscope (SEM). Proliferative and secretory endometrium were present denoting the onset of regeneration by that time.

A multicentered phase III clinical trial was conducted in seven countries to compare two dosages of depot-medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA), 100mg and 150mg, given every 90 days. Contraceptive efficacy and side-effects of both regimens were reported previously. Their effect on vaginal bleeding patterns is the object of this paper.
