Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common type of glomerulonephritis in adults worldwide. Environmental metal exposure has been reported to be involved in the pathogenic mechanisms of kidney diseases, yet no further epidemiological study has been conducted to assess the effects of metal mixture exposure on IgAN risk. In this study, we conducted a matched case‒control design with three controls for each patient to investigate the association between metal mixture exposure and IgAN risk.

Background: Excess aldosterone is implicated in vascular calcification (VC), but the mechanism by which aldosterone-MR (mineralocorticoid receptor) complex promotes VC is unclear. Emerging evidence indicates that long-noncoding RNA H19 (H19) plays a critical role in VC. We examined whether aldosterone-induced osteogenic differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) through H19 epigenetic modification of Runx2 (runt-related transcription factor-2) in a MR-dependent manner.

Continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) plays an important role in quantum communications, because of its compatible setup for optical implementation with low cost. For this paper, we considered a neural network approach to predicting the secret key rate of CVQKD with discrete modulation (DM) through an underwater channel. A long-short-term-memory-(LSTM)-based neural network (NN) model was employed, in order to demonstrate performance improvement when taking into account the secret key rate.

National Engineering Research Center for Carbohydrate Synthesis, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Jiangxi Normal University, Nanchang, 330022, China.

The annulation reactions of enaminones with quinonediimides/quinoneimides for the selective synthesis of indoles and 2-aminobenzofurans have been realized. With Zn(II) catalysis, quinonediimides reacted with enaminones to give indoles HNMe-elimination-based aromatization. With Fe(III) catalysis, the reactions of quinoneimides with enaminones provided 2-aminobenzofurans a key dehydrogenative aromatization.

Temporally heterogeneous environments is hypothesized to correlate with greater plasticity of plants, which has rarely been supported by direct evidence. To address this issue, we subjected three species from different ranges of habitats to a first round of alternating full light and heavy shading (temporally heterogeneous light experience), constant moderate shading and full light conditions (temporally homogeneous light experiences, control) and a second round of light-gradient treatments. We measured plant performance in a series of morphological, biomass, physiological and biochemical traits at the end of each round.

May 2023

Key Laboratory of Cluster Science (Ministry of Education), Beijing Key Laboratory of Photoelectronic and Electrophotonic Conversion Materials, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing102488, P. R. China.

Insights into the chemical essence of weak interactions on the surface of biomacromolecules may help to regulate biological processes. In this work, the pH sensitivity of ion-pair interactions occurring on a cysteine self-assembled monolayer (Cys SAM) that simulates the local surface of a protein was probed by scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM). Cys SAM and the ion-pair interactions subsequently formed with the introduced aspartic acid (Asp) were both pH-sensitive, as confirmed by the tip current changes in the feedback mode.
