This study seeks to understand the causal association between serum metabolites and different lung cancer types, an area yet to be extensively studied. We Used a two-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR) approach, utilizing 486 blood metabolites as exposures and 3 distinct lung cancer types genome-wide association studies datasets as outcomes. We employed inverse variance weighting, MR-Egger, weighted median, simple mode, and weighted mode to estimate causal effects.

Esketamine, the right-handed optical isomer of racemic ketamine, is a rapidly acting antidepressant approved by the FDA for treatment-resistant depression in 2019. However, few studies have investigated esketamine's role in learning and memory, particularly in the context of memory reconsolidation. Herein, we evaluated esketamine's role in memory reconsolidation in 7-week-old male Institute of Cancer Research mice subjected to the novel object recognition (NOR) memory task.

Pan-Cancer Analysis of P3H1 and Experimental Validation in Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma.

Appl Biochem Biotechnol

September 2024

Department of Nutrition, Taizhou Central Hospital, Taizhou, Zhejiang, China.

Prolyl 3-hydroxylase 1 (P3H1) has been implicated in cancer development, but no pan-cancer analysis has been conducted on P3H1. In this study, for the first time, aspects associated with P3H1, such as the mRNA expression, any mutation, promoter methylation, and prognostic significance, the relationship between P3H1 and clinicopathological parameters, drug sensitivity, and immune cell infiltration were investigated by searching several databases including The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx), cBioPortal, and The Tumor Immune Evaluation Resource (TIMER2.0) using bioinformatics tools.

Calcined Bean Dregs-Hydrocalumite Composites as Efficient Adsorbents for the Removal of Ofloxacin.

ACS Omega

December 2023

Department of Food and Chemical Engineering, Shaoyang University, Shaoyang, Hunan 422000, PR China.

Calcined bean dregs-hydrocalumite composites were prepared through in situ self-assembly of hydrocalumite on the surface of bean dregs and used for the adsorption of ofloxacin from water. The adsorbents were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, and N physical adsorption. The results showed that the adsorption performance of calcined bean dregs-hydrocalumite composites for ofloxacin was much better than that of a single bean dreg carbon or calcined hydrocalumite.

Pulsed-control plasma-activated water: An emerging technology to assist ultrasound for fresh-cut produce washing.

Ultrason Sonochem

January 2024

Xinjiang Key Laboratory of Biological Resources and Genetic Engineering, College of Life Science & Technology, Xinjiang University, Urumqi 830046, China.

In this study, we explored the use of plasma-activated water (PAW) in combination with ultrasound (US) for food disinfection. Our research introduces a novel approach that utilizes a pulsed-control (PC) method to modify the PAW. The resulting PCPAW exhibits significantly higher concentrations of key reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) compared to conventional PAW.

The influence of the reduction method on the morphology and performance of the catalyst still controversial. In this study, hydrogen, MR-1 (MR-1), MR-1 and hydrogen coreduction are used to reduce the palladium ions adsorbed by MR-1 to obtain Pd/C, Pd/C, and Pd/C catalyst, respectively. It is found that the palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) in Pd/C are the largest, while the Pd NPs in Pd/C are the smallest.

Metabolic regulation of homologous recombination repair by MRE11 lactylation.

Cell

January 2024

State Key Laboratory of Cardiology and Research Center for Translational Medicine, Shanghai East Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai 200120, China; Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai 200120, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Lactylation is a modification driven by lactate that affects gene regulation and has been shown to occur on the MRE11 protein during DNA damage, promoted by the CBP acetyltransferase and requiring ATM phosphorylation.
  • This modification enhances MRE11's ability to bind DNA, which is crucial for the DNA repair process called homologous recombination (HR).
  • Targeting the enzymes involved in MRE11 lactylation may serve as a new cancer treatment strategy, as it could make tumor cells more sensitive to chemotherapy by hindering their HR repair mechanisms.

Pristine organic phase change materials (PCMs) are difficult to complete photothermal conversion and storage. To upgrade their photothermal conversion and storage capacity, we developed Fe-MOF (metal-organic framework) derived FeO/C-decorated graphene (GP) based composite PCMs toward solar energy harvesting. Graphene is an excellent phonon conductor, and FeO/C-GP as a photon capturer exhibits strong full-spectrum absorption.
